The President was informed about the CBS statement on Air Force One. He stated that he was pleased CBS (something something), but it still leaves unanswered the questions regarding contact between Bill Burkett and the Kerry campaign...... Big Trouble for Little John. Also: Carl Cameron was just on Fox saying Maxie confirmed there was contact with Burkett. He also said that Kerry was pushing this 60 Minutes piece as a "must see" to his traveling press for several weeks PRIOR to it coming out. Carl Cameron, as we all know, is one of them traveling with Kerry. Max Cleland had...

CLEVELAND (AP) - Jeff Garcia's girlfriend, Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Year, was charged with assault in a bar fight last month with a woman the Cleveland Browns quarterback once dated. Garcia was out with girlfriend Carmella DeCesare when they were confronted Aug. 21 by Kristen Hine in a nightclub. DeCesare "launched" herself at Hine three times, Hine told police. Hine said that when she turned to leave DeCesare kicked her in the head. Hine, 32, of Cleveland, wasn't hurt but filed a police complaint accusing DeCesare (pictured, above) of assault, a first-degree misdemeanor.

snip ILL-TIMED VISIT HEADS swiveled at the Disney/ABC Burbank campus on Friday morning when CBS/Viacom chief Les Moonves (inset) was spotted. "I was stunned to see him the same day we were rocked by [Disney CEO Michael] Eisner's retirement announcement. Well, not really rocked so much as grateful," said one Mouseketeer. "Unfortunately I didn't have my camera phone with me." Moonves was mentioned as a possible successor to Eisner in a research report released the same day by the Bernstein investment firm. But he wasn't there being interviewed for the top job. Moonves, Bob Iger of ABC and Gail Berman...

Since our own Woodward and Bernstein's have been getting so much news cred, I was teasing my husband that Free Republic would go mainstream soon. So, I thought I'd start a thread on how we can tell when it's "over" (mainstream). You know Free Republic is "over" when... -You can't sign on without three pop-ups. -Jim Robinson is linked with Paris Hilton on Page Six. -The D.C. Chapter gets their own Reality Show. -Buckhead is now known as "B Head" and rents yachts. -Howlin has her own clothing line. -Anybody who says, "I was here during Impeachment" gets a book...

CLEVELAND (AP) - A judge has overturned a $30 million medical malpractice award against a doctor and the now-defunct Mount Sinai Medical Center in the case of a 17-year-old whose brain was damaged at birth. Retired Judge Robert Lawther, presiding in a Cuyahoga County courtroom, threw out the award in a victory for Dr. Ronald Jordan and the former Cleveland hospital. The judge said the award was excessive and had mistakenly been based on passion and prejudice. A jury had ruled in May that Jordan and Mount Sinai had been negligent in delaying Walter Hollins' delivery while his mother, Regina...

Ohio's top elections official reversed course Friday and agreed to count ballots from most voters who show up at the wrong polling places on Election Day. Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell will issue revised orders next week instructing local election officials to accept more "provisional" ballots, his spokesman said Friday. Such ballots - a key component of the federal election reforms adopted after the 2000 presidential race - are given to voters at polling places where they are not registered. Two months ago, Blackwell told local election officials in a memo that provisional ballots cast by voters at the wrong...

CLEVELAND -- A new U.S. Census Bureau analysis shows that Cleveland experienced the highest poverty rate among American cities with populations of 250,000 or more. With an estimated 31.3 percent of its people in poverty, Cleveland topped the list for the first time in the four years that census officials have conducted the American Community Survey. Under-18 poverty was 46.9 percent. In 2000, the city's poverty rate of 24.3 percent ranked sixth nationally; by 2002, Cleveland ranked third, with 30.6 percent of its people in poverty. Economics expert George Zeller says the reason for the jump in poverty levels is...

Bill and Hillary Clinton have asked the California Supreme Court to squelch a conservative group's latest lawsuit against them, a claim by a now- jailed Southern Californian that he contributed $1.9 million to Hillary Clinton's New York Senate campaign in exchange for the then-president's promise to go to work for him. So far, state courts have refused to dismiss the fraud suit by Peter F. Paul, who wants return of the money he allegedly spent on a Hollywood fund- raising event for Hillary Clinton in August 2000. Bill Clinton denies making any promise in exchange for a campaign contribution. But...

I need prayers today. I'm not real sure where to post this, so I guessed. I woke up yesterday and could not feel my left leg. I saw my doctor today and they have me scheduled for an MRI to "rule anything out" that may be affecting my brain area. I go today at 3:00. I'm pretty scared. I've spent the last eight years of my life going to college, and I graduate May 15. The Lord knows that I had plans, but if he sees a purpose for me that wasn't quite my own, I trust Him to help...

BREAKING NEWS Feds arrest East Cleveland Mayor Federal agents this morning arrested East Cleveland Mayor Emmanuel Onunwor on a 22-count indictment for accepting "bribes, kickbacks and secret payoffs" over his career as a city official. A federal grand jury has been investigating Onunwor and other city officials since last year. In January, the grand jury indicted the city's former community development director on charges of channeling federal money to her relatives through "front companies" and accepting kickbacks in return. The U.S. attorney's office said Onunwor solicited and received numerous bribes from unspecified "intermediaries" that span his career as East Cleveland...

Dozens of married couples stood in the sanctuary of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Cleveland, held hands, looked into each other's eyes and affirmed their commitment to each other. It was not a belated Valentine's Day celebration, nor was it a group with a common anniversary. The Sunday evening gathering was a rally in support of the belief that marriage is a God-ordained institution between a man and a woman. In a sermon before the couples were asked to affirm their marriages, the Rev. Marvin McMickle, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Cleveland, said the "design for the human family"...

An Internet column (the Drudge Report) chirped last week that Dem presidential hopeful John Kerry may have been involved in a sexual scandal involving an intern. Sneed also disclosed that former Dem presidential candidate Al Gore was privately discussing Kerry's alleged female baggage last week. So here are the new details. A British tabloid, the Sun, claims to have interviewed Terry Polier, the father of Alex Polier, 24, the young woman who reportedly is the center of the allegations. Polier, who had worked in New York for the Associated Press, is reportedly now in Kenya. Polier's parents reportedly told the...

There are two "scandals" in American politics at the moment: the first features George W Bush and whether he was a "deserter", as Michael Moore, Hollywood's celebrated Leftie lardbutt, puts it. This goes back three decades to when Mr Bush was a young pilot in the Texas Air National Guard, the so-called "weekend warriors". By desertion, Moore and co mean that there were a lot of weekends when the warrior didn't show up. Terry McAuliffe, the highest-ranking official of the Democratic Party, prefers the term "Awol". He doesn't offer any evidence to support the accusation. But, if you switch on...

Outraged Democratic members of the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday said the length and breath of leaked memos that fell into Republican hands warranted a criminal prosecution of the culprits. Meantime, an ousted senior aide to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) said aides to Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) had access to the internal Democratic documents. Yet these GOP staffers have not yet been questioned by Sergeant at Arms Bill Pickle, even though his investigation into the leaked memos has already stretched into its third month, said the aide. Emerging from a nearly two-hour briefing by Pickle, the panel’s ranking member,...

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (AP) -- One ticket sold in Ohio won a multistate Mega Millions lottery jackpot worth $155 million, lottery officials said Wednesday. The ticket for Tuesday's drawing, sold at a convenience store in this Cleveland suburb, was the only one to match all five numbers and the Mega Ball number, said Mardele Cohen, spokeswoman for the Ohio Lottery. When redeeming the ticket, the winner may choose between an immediate cash payout of $90 million before taxes or $155 million over 26 years, Cohen said. It is the biggest lottery prize ever in Ohio, which joined the Mega Millions...
