That would be in violation of Section 6 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which protects the mobility rights of Canadian citizens. This includes the right to enter, remain in, and leave Canada. I’m sure the little despotic Turd will try it though since his only real talent appears to be violating the Charter.

At the school I attended, the nuns used to paddle the children who “needed discipline”. They had to get permission from the parents before paddling us, and my mother always granted it, so I always knew the day I’d be paddled and wore as many pairs of underwear as I could fit under my dress. They later abandoned the paddles on the behind for the strap on the hands, which I also received twice. (Once was for the unimaginable offence of writing so small that the nun had trouble reading it.) I like to think that my padding made them change their method of discipline 😁

I think my Dad knew how many I’d run into throughout my life, which may be why he suggested I choose whichever of the following is best under the circumstances, or can get away with: (a) stare blankly; (b) stare wide-eyed; (c) raise my eyebrows and purse my lips; (d) roll my eyes; (e) shake my head. Any choice is to be followed by quietly walking away with the sad acceptance that I’ve just run into a dumbass. Every now and then I’m in a position to try help them out of their dumbassery and I challenge their Devil’s advocacy. A shocking number have run away from me in tears. Apparently, the Devil doesn’t equip them with the skills to advance their position very well.

Lol! You’re a smart lady so I’m positive you could learn. It’s easiest right after you’ve first learned the basics of the game because you mostly just try to remember the cards, follow suit and make simple plays. It gets harder the more you learn and the more you try to develop your game. It’s probably like chess that way. Until you begin to study chess, you’re just moving the pieces around on the board without a lot of attention to strategy or future moves, but you’re having a great deal of fun.

What a great observation! This captures exactly why I feel so tired after a week of bridge against excellent players.

In a tournament, we each play 24-27 hands every game and most players play 2 games a day (48-54 hands). A tournament can last from one day to 11 days for a National tournament (528-594 hands). There are 13 rounds of play in each hand and 12 involve a decision, so there are a minimum of 288 decisions in a single game, 6336-7128 decisions for an 11 day tournament. There is no decision in the last round of play of a hand because every player must play the only card he holds.

For each hand, the idea is for each player to figure out who holds which cards based on the bidding, the actual play of cards and through sophisticated communication techniques using the cards played. This means we don’t necessarily play the lowest card we hold in a suit when the opponents play the ace of that suit. The card we play tells our partner something about our hand so we can silently work together to win the maximum number of rounds/tricks. The earlier it is in the play of a hand, the tougher the decision about which card to play because less is known about what the other players hold. The opponents are also watching the cards we play and our signals to each other, so we have to find the right balance between telling our partner the truth and misleading the opponent.

When the hand is over, then the internal evaluation and judgement starts as we critique the decisions we made throughout the hand, sometimes accompanied by partner’s comments on the same. I absolutely suffer from decision fatigue at the end of a tournament from the sheer number and complexity of the decisions made throughout the week. That’s also why, when I get home, the mere question “What should I make for dinner?” can feel like an impossible riddle. I’m delighted to have a name for it. Let’s hope that Judge Merchan doesn’t have the mental or physical stamina required to prevent his own decision fatigue.

I can’t figure out if Diddy is a good guy helping the FBI in furtherance of prosecutions, or if he’s a bad guy collecting compromising information for the FBI so the FBI can use it against powerful people to become more powerful themselves. It’s been reported that the FBI had Diddy in their grasp at an airport, but I didn’t hear that he was arrested, so that makes it appear that they’re on the same side. When it comes to ugly things like this, I have trouble identifying who the good guys are or even if ANYONE is a good guy in these situations.
