Dayton Daily News ^ | June 13, 2019 | Mark Gokavi, Staff Writer
In a lawsuit over the 2014 shooting by police of a Beavercreek Walmart customer, attorneys for Walmart plan to claim that another customer who called 911 was the cause of the incident and the store should not be held responsible. The attorneys contend the “blatant lies” and “intentional fabrication” led Beavercreek police to say the reason they came into the store was they believe an “active shooter” was present and that officers didn’t talk to any Walmart employee.

Summary From the Washington Administration to the present, Congress and the President have enacted 11 separate formal declarations of war against foreign nations in five different wars. Each declaration has been preceded by a presidential request either in writing or in person before a joint session of Congress. The reasons cited in justification for the requests have included armed attacks on United States territory or its citizens and threats to United States rights or interests as a sovereign nation. Congress and the President have also on a number of occasions enacted authorizations for the use of force instead of declarations...

This is a prayer request on behalf of my wife. She has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, the same kind that Ted Kennedy had. She will be operated on next week. She's in for testing right now. I may or may not be able to get to a computer. Sorry, I can't compose and type very well right now.

A local sheriff has asked state officials to press for legislation that would place guns in schools. Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones sent letters Thursday to Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland and State Rep. Courtney Combs calling for mandatory armed personnel in all public and private Ohio schools. Jones said his plan is intended to prevent a school shooting such as the one this week at Virginia Tech. Jones suggested assigning law enforcement officers to each school or training select school officials to handle weapons and enforce laws, and commissioning those officials as Ohio Peace Officers. Jones admitted his plan...

COLUMBUS | The officer who stopped a nightclub rampage by killing the gunman had been trained to head straight for the shooter in such a situation in order to save lives.  James D. So, you've decided that Ohio's license is too much of a bother to get? Why get a license from Ohio, and reward their absurd regulations, when you can carry in Ohio on your Florida non-resident permit, right? Granted, Ohio's law leaves a lot to be desired, and there is a lot of work to come in improving Ohio's CHL. However, a large part of improving Ohio's CHL law is going to be in proving that there is a NEED to improve the law. Like it or not, Ohio's CHL program is going to be judged, in large part, upon the...

This is from Ohio. August 13, 2004 Chillicothe Gazette What began as a piece of equipment to grant concealed weapon licenses is now helping find missing children. The Ross County Sheriff's Office rolled out a program called KidPrint ID that gives parents an identification card containing a recent photo, physical description and thumb print. "This is just another tool that we could use to protect our children," Sheriff Ron Nichols said. The ID card can be created in minutes using a digital camera, laptop computer and portable card printer -- the same printer used to create licenses to carry a...

Why not include Mayor Daley of Chicago? (I mean Richard J. Daley, the father of present mayor Richard M. Daley.) Allegedly, he is presently co-located with a great many of those whose votes have been cast in recent elections in favor of the Democratic ticket. If he can get all of their votes by virtue of their common situation, he'd be a shoo-in in any election.

A Montgomery County Common Pleas judge has been selected  as one of 50 judges in the state to experiment with juror    participation. Judge Mary E. Donovan said she could begin give to jurors a chance to pop a question to each witness at her next trial. The experiment will take about six months, she said. Government attorneys fighting an appeals court decision declaring Ohio's ban on concealed weapons unconstitutional could do little Thursday but wait for a response from the Ohio Supreme Court. “We filed our requests. We haven't heard back yet. We asked respectfully. We can't compel the justices to respond. We have no idea when or if they'll respond,” said Joe Case, a spokesman for Attorney General Betty Montgomery. On Wednesday, a three-judge panel from the 1st District Court of Appeals upheld an earlier decision by Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Robert Ruehlman, who sided with a group of residents that challenged the...
