We’re not lecturing on self-determination, Russia is. The Russian Federation claims the use of force is justified because Georgia is interfering with South Ossetia’s right to self-determination.
Most hilarious about Russia's defense of their actions? They're shouting about South Ossetia's right to self-determination...and yet according to this poll: http://bd.english.fom.ru/report/cat/az/0-9/autonomy/eof992903 "79% (of Russians) consider military conflict by national minorities for independence to be unacceptable." So, what is the real reason? The Old Corps Blog seems to have answered it fairly well.

There are certainly honor killings which aren’t associated with Islam - but it would be foolish to discount the fact that, even as Islam becomes the fastest growing religion in the UK and composes 10% of London’s population, honor killings are reaching unprecedented levels.
As a person who has read the Koran, I can say it never specifically sanctions honor killings. But what the MSM needs to understand is that much of Islam is determined not by the Koran, but by what the traditions of Muslim societies are, as well as the interpretations of clergy who are often extremist. Many Muslims - especially the more devout - believe that the only legitimate version of the Koran is the Arabic. However, fewer and fewer Muslims can read Arabic, leaving them dependent upon Muslim clergy and family traditions for definition of their faith. It is in this way that honor killings become entwined with Islamic doctrine in the eyes of many Muslims. Just because it isn’t specifically stated in the Koran doesn’t mean it’s not a part of modern Islam.

The thought of someone like Martin being taken seriously anywhere is so revolting that I’m having trouble focusing on this post...
But she is a great example of the recipe for success in the academic world, which isn’t intelligence or creativity, but instead “say the exact opposite of whatever common sense dictates.”
Remember kids: those of us who realize our adolescent nearsightedness grow up to be wise, and those of us who don’t grow up to be democrats.
