The flight simulator was one source of Subliminal Distraction exposure that would have caused a mental break leading the captain to hijack the plane during a psychotic episode.

That three screen arrangement supplies threat-movement in peripheral vision to cause subliminal failed attempts to execute the vision startle reflex.That process is defined as a visual subliminal distraction.

There had to be more than one source since others have similar simulators in homes without known problems.

There are no pictures, so far, of his home computer. That might be a second source of exposure if it was located where family could walk by as he used it.

If he did things like read books while sitting in the pilots position on long flights, he would have subliminally detected the co-pilot’s movements for exposure too.

Subliminal Distraction, named for the normal feature of our physiology of sight that allows it to cause mental breaks, is explained in first semester college psychology lectures about peripheral vision reflexes.

The problem was discovered in 1964 because it caused mental breaks for office workers. The cubicle was designed to block peripheral vision for a concentrating knowledge workers to stop it in offices by 1968.

Everyone aware of it believes it only happens in offices and causes a harmless temporary episode.

The problem at France Telecom is the same one in the U.S. Post Office. It’s a failure to provide Cubicle Level Protection where it is needed and the failure to warn employees about computer use or knowledge work performed in the home with repeating detectable movement in peripheral vision.

France Telecom bought modern workstations but either installed them incorrectly or made changes after a correct installation.

Video from French TV programs shows defective workstations. Pictures on-line of an “Orange” worker shows him sitting at an open table where other family or pets could walk by as he uses his laptop computer.

The Post Office does not use Cubicle Level Protection and several of the shooters have been mail sorters. That job would require Cubicle Level Protection.

These same suicides are happening at Foxconn’s city/factory in China. They regularly happen to college students here.

It’s the level of mental investment used that allows Subliminal Distraction exposure to happen.

The mental event happens with a massive number of failed subliminal attempts to startle. This exposure is undetectable by the victim because of the way your brain functions to subliminally detect threat-movement and attempt the vision startle reflex.

The problem, discovered and solved forty years ago, is believed to cause only a harmless temporary episode of confusion. But designers see only exposure from an eight hour work day.

The suicides likely have more than one place of exposure so they have exposure levels equal to a college student.

Yes there have been mental events associated with astronauts and a full mental break by the flight-engineer-cosmonaut on Soyuz-21.

It's not caused by space travel but by a problem with human physiology related to the vision startle reflex.

In Nowak's case she may have started exposure while on her mission but the recent events say she created a source of exposure at her home computer station or office.

The solution to the disappearance of Mary Shotwell Little has been posted on the Internet.

Key to the solution is that two women disappeared not one. Both used the same desk in that bank office.

Most people are unaware that design engineers discovered a conflict of physiology in the 1950's when workers using newly designed close-spaced workstations began having bizarre or psychotic episodes. The problem was peripheral vision reflexes and the solution in the business office by the 1960's was the Cubicle.

The problem is one of physiology related to subliminal sight not desks and chairs. (Vision Startle Reflex) Although you can ignore Peripheral Vision Reflexes that break your concentration, you cannot stop subliminally seeing movement that triggers them. You cannot tell your brain to stop trying to create and force the reflexes. The phenomenon can happen anytime and anywhere the conditions to create it exist.

Psychology texts and lectures briefly mention this problem. The historical reference is, "Subliminal Sight caused a problem in the early days of modern office design." Note the past tense. The explanation given is that a conflict arises in the mind as the victim continues to ignore the reflexes and it builds until there is a mental break.

Little and Shields were exposed and had similar episodes. Both began to say and do strange things before each disappeared two years apart.

These episodes and disappearances have not stopped happening. Today with Cubicles in use in business offices College Students are one at-risk group. They don't know that if a workstation where they will study or use a computer is located in a room with repeating detectable movement, Cubicle Level Protection must be designed into that workstation.

When I contacted the Cold Case Officer, Atlanta PD, about this solution he remembered that the Atlanta Police Department had problems with the old open-room unprotected-desk system before they installed Cubicles.

You can see the old office system any night on episodes of "Law and Order," "NYPD Blue," or "Barney Miller."

Neither the Bank or Authorities were aware of this phenomenon at the time.

Little may still be alive. Victims of Dissociative Fugue sometimes have amnesia of the previous identity and life.


College Student disappearances:

Ahmad Arain computer science major UCLA found in Mexico in an altered mental state.

Maura Murray disappeared after having a mental event in front of witnesses. The witnesses did not detect that. She damaged two cars in about two days, disappeared and has not been seen since.

Amy Bradley graduated college, went on a cruise and disappeared as the ship was preparing to dock. There have been two sightings of her but she is still missing.

Suzanne Lyall disappeared within 200 yards of her dorm room at the University at Albany. Her ATM card was used to withdraw $20 but there have been no sightings since.

Joseph Morse disappeared from Georgia Tech the morning of finals and was photographed at an ATM withdrawing his last cash. This summer his body was located. He had died in Miami the next day after he disappeared from Atlanta.
