It was probably automated and went to shit the moment they lost backup power systems. I’m taking much news about this with a grain of salt. The plant in question I believe is Old, and I’m practically amazed it exceeded the original building codes which the earthquake had surpassed.
But still, I probably got more radiation walking from my garage to my car than what is currently being released. But I’m no expert, just a concerned college student who has always advocated the nuclear power stuff.

Well, being hit by a tsunami that washes away all the backup diesels would be a problem, and battery power to only last 8 hours...
It’s a bunch of problems coming together....think of it as the whole 3:1 engagement rule...except you don’t have the option to retreat when the odds are stacked against you.

He does sound like what he’s doing. And I’m not a physicist or a nuclear engineer, but when I see the ‘experts’ going on and on in the news sources, I have to take it with a grain of salt. To hyper-inflate and cast doom and gloom and advance the anti-nuclear agenda is to discredit your own credibility.
I hope we see actual people who can calmly explain like what this guy did instead of picking choice bits for a 1 minute interview.

If we helped everyone on the planet, we really are going to be broke.
Japan’s an ally, and it only takes a snub like not sending emergency supplies or something like it to send em to China’s camp, and we don’t need another round of “why are you guys here” coming from their anti-war groups.
That said, I haven’t heard anything about 7th Fleet assets currently in Japan doing much. And one of the JSDF’s missions is disaster response and is quite capable in that regard. So...what exactly is a carrier from San Diego (let alone one from 3d Fleet) would do? It’d reach Japan next week I guess. Rather use our forces there and assist the JSDF...sending the Ronald Reagan seems to be a publicity call.

Came right outta the boonies eh? Whatever happened to the German police services? You’d think they’d be, I dunno, more knowledgeable to these type of things.
