1. Americans love to drive gas guzzling SUV's (usually with one person in the vehicle).
2. Environmentalists seem to be politically powerful enough to keep America from utilizing known resources here in the U.S.
3. We won't build any new refineries, because nobody wants one "in their backyard."
4. Some states mandate the use of more highly refined blends of gasoline which drives the price even higher.
5. It appears that no matter how high the price of gasoline gets, Americans will not curtail their use of it, and so demand will keep the price soaring.
Many more reasons could certainly be given, but the bottom line is; don't look for any solutions any time soon. I hate to sound pessimistic but that's how I see it.
