  • FReeper advice needed: newborn with middle ear infection.

My daughter was good for 3-4 ear infections every winter. It’s really nothing to fool around with as it can cause permanent hearing loss. My advice would be to get that cute little one to an immediate care clinic today.

I hear ya. I was called back to work starting tomorrow. After 21 years at the same place one gets a little set in their ways and is somewhat lost when laid off.

Unemployment doesn’t pay much, contrary to popular belief - half of what I make working. Although I don’t exactly like management there, I am doing a happy dance.

We did the “skitching” thing. But probably the most dangerous was running next to, and jumping slow moving trains. One slip or trip on those big railroad rocks and we could have been easily cut in half.

  • Police Seize Over 300 Guns from Rockford Home

You made it out of Rockford! Woot!!!

I am still stuck here. This story has been burning up local radio and one can clearly see the divide between conservative and lib viewpoints on the issue.

As far as I’m concerned the local police suck and the cops on the street absolutely hate Police Chief Epperson. Lindmark is a dickwheat too. “That seems like to many rifles”. WTF is that???

Under “normal” circumstances of condemning a property the owner is usually given a period of time to correct the situation. I’ve never seen the cops swoop in like they did in this case. I bet their eyes lit up and they were smacking their lips when they saw all the guns.

I doubt he’ll ever get all of his property back - the States Attorney will come with some b.s. reasons. This city and county is as corrupt as Chicago, 90 miles east. They attempt to seize everything. They impound cars for everything past a speeding ticket. “Roadside Safety Checks” are actually How much money can we scam Checks.

We have armed gang bangers running all over town shooting it out like the wild west but the cops are directed to bring home the bacon. Oh, they’ll show up to do the paperwork after he shooting has stopped. The Winnebago county Courthouse (oh, sorry) the new Justice Center is a criminal organization in it’s own right. A good old boys club. It’s a running joke in town.

It took six trips to court to get the money grubbers to drop bogus criminal trespassing charges against my daughter ... they wouldn’t even look at the evidence, they just hope you’ll give up and open the wallet.

I hope this guy gets his collection back but I wouldn’t bet on it. Know doubt the cops are slapping each other on the back and bartering over who gets what.

    Sorry for your loss.

I was on a service call in MN for three days. My old Black Lab (16 y/o) was sick and the Vet suggested he be put down before I left. Sis watched him at my house and my heart dropped a foot when she told me he was getting worse. Wouldn’t eat or drink. Got back home at 11:30 pm. Sat down on the floor near where he was laying. He died at midnight with his head in my lap ... I cried like a school girl.

I am convinced he wanted me to pet him and see me one last time. He looked up at me, took a breath, and was gone.

I agree the Carp Czar idea is a joke ... but look who proposed it.

The problem with these carp is they can eat 90% of their body weight a day and a female can produce 22 million eggs. And they are huge, up to 6o lbs. A lot of people bowfish them or snag for them. There videos on the net where the air around a boat is literally filled with these monsters. One couldn’t miss if they tried. Also they jump right into moving boats. I don’t imagine getting hit in the head or chest by a 40 lb. fish in a boat moving 30mph is a whole lot of fun.

Don’t have any answers but they are big problem on the Illinois River.

My neighbor has a Pit who is fine around people but is on it’s last leg with the county for attacking other dogs. She cane after my pup years ago as I walked him. Had I not know the Pit she would have attacked. They have since secured the fence gate ... but never underestimate how clever a Pit can be if it see’s another dog being walked down the street.

They also have a huge German Rott named Bear and the name fits. His head is the size of a small Bear. He has the best disposition of any Rott I’ve ever seen. A big baby. Scares the hell out of most people though. They are going to breed him soon and I have 2nd choice of the litter. The county made them fix the Pit.

A similar incident happened in northern Illinois a few years ago. The Winnebago county officer was “supposedly” on a domestic call. Without lights, without sirens, going over 100mph and plowed into a vehicle killing everyone. A family lost all of their teenage children in one fell swoop. The officer lived and the family sued. They had a legitimate claim. It was not a frivolous lawsuit.

Folks still put flowers at the crash site. He didn’t mean to crash into them, but he did. Sad, all around. One second is all it takes.

I agree, but the teachers seem to be handcuffed to do much these days. An old school chum and I were discussing this the other day.

We had a gym teacher in middle school who would get you out of the water in swimming, make you stand grabbing your ankles at the edge of the deep end ... and I mean smack you on your wet rear end with a wood paddle the woods shop teacher made for him - hard enough to knock you in and leave your rear red for dunking other kids. In high school, one of our football coaches broke up a fight in the cafeteria between two hippies by grabbing both of them by their long hair and slamming their heads together - repeatedly.

Sigh ... the good old days. They’d be arrested today and lose their jobs.

I don’t know if it is available in Harrisburg, PA but we have one food pantry in town where one can go to get dog & cat food once a month. It’s all privately donated so it’s not like it’s a government handout. All name brand quality food, dry & canned. Also we have a private dog rescue called Noah’s Ark where one can get pet food. I have donated time there in the past feeding and walking the dogs & cats and they are great people working there. Might start doing that again on weekends, but I’d want to take half of them home!

I remember going fishing many times in the Scouts.

The most memorable was when we got back to the church where we had our meetings. One kid hit a catfish inside the church and got “stung” and cried ‘till he went to a hospital. It was a Saturday, and he tossed that fish like a hot potato!

We never found it that night. The minister found it early the next morning though ... under some steps ... stinking to high heaven. lol.
