No, thank you for stating your opinion without resorting to personal attacks. There have been some people here calling me sick, and violent, scum of the earth, ect. Take care.

Ma’am, I’d be careful...there have been people here who would be more than willing to throw me into prison and take my sons away because I yelled at them.

No, and you’re still an idiot who’s brave in the forums. I stopped posting here because of the whole Terry Schiavo thing, remember? When all the hardcore Jesus freaks went psycho and claimed that their bible trumped the American Constitution. Besides, dumbass, I wrote that as satire. You know, irony? Really, when someone says one thing and...ah, never mind...you’re an idiot and lets just leave it at that.

..and you’re an idiot. The next time you pull your head out of your butt to get some air, why don’t you reread what I actually said. If you can write with anger to me, then you’ve obviously got anger issues that you’re children probably have to deal with. That is, unless of course you’re merely brave and bad in the forums. Yeah, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to go off... that’s your style: HardCore Forum poster. Sick-o? Jesus, you people...

Wow! I am sorry that you are so sensitive. CLEARLY threatening, huh? Gee, I don’t know what to say. I probably have anger-related issues that require years of expensive ‘therapy’ that will help me pinpoint my violent nature with the rough manner in which I was potty-trained. Say, what’s the name of yours? I’m sure you can recommend somebody.

Please think about that for a moment. You’re not talking about a football team or a sales force! this is his freaking daughter! She’s eleven years old! What if you’re eleven year old told you that you weren’t worthy of his/her respect, and not only will he/she not take out the trash as you told them to, (or do you ask them nicely?) but they show you contempt because you cussed them out and now they need some time for you to prove that you are worthy of their respect! I’m sorry, but that is sad! Alec Baldwin is that girl’s FATHER, remember your stone tablets “Honor thy mother and father”? What, unless their flaming libs? Then you can just spit on them? LOL!

Then I would leave a voicemail to tell her that I didn’t appreciate the disrespect that she showed me. I’m her father, and my parents are her granparents and my brothers and sisters and their children are her uncles, aunts and cousins. I would not stop leaving voicemail messages, either, because she is my daughter and she’s eleven years old. She’s not an adult, she’s a child and I am her father. What don’t you understand about that? Do you kids tell you what their going to do and if you don’t like it, tough? What would you do? Well okay honey, Daddy loves you, just call me whenever you need something? Two different paradigms, and I do not understand yours.

Thanks, I have been really surprised by people here critical of a parent being a parent. There is no official handbook, and if there was, would everybody really want the government telling us to raise their children? I am not perfect, but none of my boys have ever had to miss school because their black eye hasn’t healed yet. Put the emphasis where it belongs. Baldwin has a different political outlook than I do, but I felt as if I was eavesdropping on a very personal conversation, that I had no business listening to.

I’m sorry that you hated your parents. My dad used rough language on me and we’re very close. As I’ve said, I came from a place where it was fairly common for the paterfamilias to physically beat everybody else in the family. If my sons have a problem with me saying something to them, I hope that they’ll tell me. My oldest boy is on his own now in the US Coast Guard, and we’re very close. I hope that he won’t be glad to bury me because I called him a bad name when he was eleven years old. Maybe he’ll think about all the good stuff I did for him and how I had his back whenever he needed it as a teenager, that I backed down some cops who were getting ready to play rough with him for going five mile over the speed limit in our little burg (thank god for cellphones on that one) and I was the one person he could absolutely trust and rely on. I’m sorry, pal, but when I cussed my boys out, they had it coming, and once they got their butts chewed out, it was back to normal. What did you Dad do for you? If he was a good guy and you could count on him when everybody else let you down, then you have a big problem by enjoying his death because he chewed your ass out. Otherwise, I would say that things at your place where probably more along the lines of neglect, criticsm and maybe physical abuse to go along with the verbal.

I’m sorry, but this is a case where we’ve had two different experiences; maybe we come from two different socioeconmic groups, whatever, but several of my friends while growing up had their parents beat the hell of them physically with belts, fists, and with one of my friends, the shaft of a garden hoe. This stuff happens, okay, and I am addressing you as somebody who may find that an alien concept. I, in no way, am trying to belittle your childhood. My own father never got physical with me, for which I am grateful. Words? I’m sorry, but words don’t mean anything compared to getting you ass beat up like a man when you’re only 13, becoming deathly afraid of your own father, or being a girl and having your father fondle and rape you on a regular basis from the time your eleven years old until you get married when you’re sixteen. I personally know of people who have gone through that. “You’re an ungrateful little pig” doesn’t seem to have the impact that “Kiss Daddy right here” does, now does it? Why don’t you forget Baldwin’s politics for a minute and try to imagine this other stuff going on, because I can assure you that it does. Thanks.

I’m sorry, and I am not a big Alex Baldwin fan, but if he didn’t care about his daughter, then he wouldn’t even bother...Kate Hudson, daughter of Goldie Hawn and one of the old Hudson Brothers pop rock act, said she seldom talked with her father. Same goes for Liv Tyler, Steven Tyler’s (Aerosmith) daughter. She thought her father was Todd Rundgren...her mother, Bebe, was a Playmate in the 70’s and had a thing for those Famous Rock Stars. Anyway, from what I’ve read, Kim Basinger is rather bizarre and to have her record this sort of conversation, and not the apology that Baldwin called in later after he had cooled off is wrong, and it is going to cost her in the long run. Hey, if one of my sons pulled that sort of thing on me and wouldn’t take my call, which was a routine between us, I would be using choice words on him, believe me, and I would have some to give to his mother. Hey, nobody is saying that Baldwin molested his daughter, are they? Losing your temper and saying stuff that you might regret later (and have to apologize) just shows that Baldwin is human, fallable and loves his children, but demands their respect as the bottomline. I may not like his politics, and even though I crack a gut everytime I watch, America, World Police, I’m non Alex Baldwin’s side on this one. If my daughter is supposed to call me every such and such a day at such and such a time, then she better make damned sure she’s on that phone, and I don’t care if she’s six or sixty. That’s her Dad: show some respect.

Thanks for the history lesson, but do you have something, I dunno, what's the word I'm looking for...oh, yeah, how about something RECENT that you can quote for us?

I mean, come on. Yes, you appear to have all the symptoms of a Theocratical Conservative. Congratulations, here's your sign.

I dunno. This last week really depressed me. To be called a "barbarastreisand" by someone who equated the 15 year odyssey of Terri Schiavo with the systematic murder of millions of people during the second world war (and with pictures of the death camps, just in case anybody missed the connection) was, frankly, a shock. Especially when it became obvious that this wasn't just one person who felt that his Bible trumped our Constitution.

I'm afraid this isn't some mere fraternal squabble between those of a Conservative bent. We're not talking about a free exchange of ideas with a little give and take on the finer points, here.

Since the only political outlet that espouses Conservative values appears to be the Republican party, what we're talking about is what the mission statement of the Party is going to be from here on out.

If it's an advocacy of some sort of theocracy in this country, as what seems to be vaguely alluded to, then it needs to be spelled out, loud and proud.

But if the Republican party is just cynically stringing the ultra-religious wing along for votes, then the leadership better get with the program and make some unequivocal public stand to that effect, because, frankly, the general public doesn't quite know what the party stance is.

Constitutional Conservatism or Theological Conservatism, what have we got here, people?

Actually, when religiously minded people find out that you're an atheist, many have a tendency to equate that with some sort of devil worship, and a lot of those will start reciting some passage from the Bible in order to 'enlighten' you.

And what is commonly understood as 'devil worship', by the way, might be something like worshipping nature or a big rock in your backyard. So what? As long as they're not hurting anybody, (say like some people who might not get their sick baby timely medical care, because their version of God will take of it all) what business of it is of anybody else to impose their values?

If you want to believe in any of the myriad religious teachings, hey, you're an American, you've got that right, and more power to you. When you want to impose your particular brand of religion on everybody else, whether they're Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, pagan, or atheists, people are going to have a tendency to get rather testy about it.

I know that's difficult to understand for people who live strictly 'by the Book', but that doesn't change the reality of the situation.

Therefore, nobody should be surprised when there's a backlash against certain religious groups who advocate that a government of all people should interpret civil law strictly according to one particular religious belief and it's accompanying tract.
