Alec Baldwin apologizes after fiery rant at daughter, 11 [breaks silence]

Alec Baldwin issued an apology on Friday for unleashing a volcanic tirade at his 11-year-old daughter and blamed "certain people" for leaking the rant to US media.

The Oscar-nominated star of "The Departed" branded daughter Ireland a "rude, thoughtless, little pig" in a fiery voicemail message that emerged on celebrity websites on Thursday.

It is the latest twist to the bitter legal wrangling between Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger over custody and visitation rights relating to Ireland. The couple split in 2001.

Baldwin's tirade was apparently triggered by Ireland's failure to switch her mobile phone on for a scheduled call with her father.

"Once again I've made an ass out of myself trying to get to a phone at a specific time," Baldwin says in the message. "I'm tired of playing this game with you. You have insulted me for the last time.

I’m sorry, and I am not a big Alex Baldwin fan, but if he didn’t care about his daughter, then he wouldn’t even bother

I'm sorry, but there is no way, no matter the circumstances, that you speak to your daughter that way, when it is the MOTHER with whom you supposedly have a problem. Baldwin was clearly directing his anger at his daughter, not Kim Basinger. To suggest that he cares about his daughter for any reason other than to use her to get "one up" on Kim Basinger, in light of that phone call, is ridiculous.

I took heat for posting a similar comment on another thread, but agree with you.

I hate that it is Alec Baldwin that I am forced to side with, both for his politics and because he was so obviously wrong with his tone and comments. He has made a (an even bigger) ass of himself and hurt his daughter and his relationship with her, but the wife’s role in this is equally disgusting and wrong.

If I had stiffed my old man repeatedly, the belt would have done the talking.

There is no excuse for how and what Baldwin said but every divorced man who hears about this knows exactly the game the wife is playing and is using the daughter to get away with it.

I (ashamed) have said worse to my 16 year old rebellious son. That is if you think the threat of physical harm is worse:o) Parents arent perfect and Im not bucking for Dad of the year...I just desire that my boys grow up respecting their parents and all authority figures...its the training all children need but many dont get.

One fact that seems to have escaped the media:
I am under the impression that Baldwin was placeing a call to his kid at 10 AM and her phone was turned off.
It has not been made clear which time zone each of them was in.

If the kid was in her time zone at 10 AM, then she would be in school and cannot have her cell phone on, as I understand most school policies.

If that is the case, why hasn’t someone pointed that out?

No matter what—Alec Baldwin is a total putz.
Glad he wasn’t my Dad.

It is worse if you just said it as a threat with no intention of following through or did not follow through when the behavior warranted it. Threats as punishment only reinforce bad behavior when your actions prove they were empty words and the child can get away with murder. It also tells the child that his parent is a liar.

"demands their respect as the bottomline"

It's far from obvious that a vicious ranting tool like Alec Baldwin has ever earned her respect. Fortunately I have parents who are absolute angels, especially in comparison with the loathsome Alec Baldwin, but when I think of my 10 - 14 year old self, if I had been in a remotely similar situation, I would definitely have rebelled against having to talk to an a-hole like Alec Baldwin on a court-provided schedule. I would have refused utterly to pretend to any respect or affection for someone like him, parent or not. Add to that the fact that he had mocked her on national tv (Letterman) the night before and it is quite possible, even likely, that she simply wanted nothing to do with him that day..... or forgot........ good heavens, she is 11 years old and he is supposed to be the "adult" in the relationship.

..and you’re an idiot. The next time you pull your head out of your butt to get some air, why don’t you reread what I actually said. If you can write with anger to me, then you’ve obviously got anger issues that you’re children probably have to deal with. That is, unless of course you’re merely brave and bad in the forums. Yeah, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to go off... that’s your style: HardCore Forum poster. Sick-o? Jesus, you people...

No, and you’re still an idiot who’s brave in the forums. I stopped posting here because of the whole Terry Schiavo thing, remember? When all the hardcore Jesus freaks went psycho and claimed that their bible trumped the American Constitution. Besides, dumbass, I wrote that as satire. You know, irony? Really, when someone says one thing and...ah, never mind...you’re an idiot and lets just leave it at that.

Ma’am, I’d be careful...there have been people here who would be more than willing to throw me into prison and take my sons away because I yelled at them.

No, thank you for stating your opinion without resorting to personal attacks. There have been some people here calling me sick, and violent, scum of the earth, ect. Take care.

Yes, Hildebeast being institutionalized two years would account for your absence.

Please take care and continue the anger counseling.

No...I only reserve the sick, violent scum of the earth tag for people who are deliberately trying to do something directly to me. I didn’t get that from you, even though I disagree.

I just don’t want to pile on.

Take it from me, I don’t care how upset you are, if you don’t have the mental capacity to think about the impact of your words on your kid, they are better off with you out of their lives.-———————Bullsh*t—————————I am very blunt, profane and downright verbally confrontational with my teenage son and daughter and they are great kids who love me dearly. I set the boundries for what is acceptable behavior, not them. If I say I will call at 10 and you don’t answer..........you are in big trouble. I’ll leave you an Alec Baldwin msg and you will make sure you answer next time. Words are words....if my kids aren’t tough enough to handle Daddy loosing his temper just think how they will react to trials and tribulations later in life. I don’t shield my kids from bad santa..they know folks like me exist and they know how to deal with them.......they certainly won’t complain to their local hardworking shrink that daddy is a meanie or use it as an excuse as to why they got a “C” in Spanish class........that doesn’t float around these parts. Don’t blame me for how someone else MADE you feel. No one makes you feel anything...you let them make you feel........your weak character.........not my problem........grow up.

>>My hubby has a very long “fuse” and would crawl over broken glass for his daughters, but noting gets his goat like when we are trying to reach our oldest on her cel phone and it’s turned off or it’ s not with her.

And nothing, but nothing makes a lesson stick like knowing that she made her daddy angry.<<

I know this is an old thread, but I have to ask...does he rave at her like a maniacal psychopath, scream that she has humiliated him for the last time, and call her a “thoughtless little pig”?

I thought not. That would be insane.
