You seem to be a conspiracy zealot.

Didn't Earn It (DEI) is ruining everything but, there is _always_ a but, The Linux Foundation is _NOT_ Linux.

    It's lipstick for a pig.

Most “humans” are lax on security if their environment is safe enough for electronic devices to be common.

Slackware user since 1994 or so.
Unlike most I do take full responsibility for my security.
That does not imply it is fantastic just that I take responsibility.

You paint fellow FR users with a wide brush and single yourself out for narrow brush treatment IMHO.

Let me be _very_ clear, I am a US Flag advocate and a LE advocate but, there is _always_ a “but”.

The Flag of the United States of America has official Rules regarding it’s display, handling, and storage.
Specifically US code Title 4 Section 8 (respect for flag).

Many good links exist I like the formatting of this one...
    https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/4/8

Doing a thing to the flag to highlight any specific group is contra indicated. It is intended to represent EVERY citizen not any specific group.

The black flags with a colored stripe are a well intentioned but ignorant bad idea that became too popular. I would find a rainbow stripe very offensive but the door is now open for that eventuality.

I started my current “Flag Rules” bitchin and moaning when ‘Farmers Business Network’ replaced the ‘Union’(white stars on blue) with the words “Farmers First”. They also added their website on top of the 13th(bottom white) stripe. They paid popular youtube farmers to display that monstrosity to hundreds of thousands of people. I single handedly shamed most of them to remove it. I also included with my bitching some ammunition to help them exit various potential display contracts.

I am _NOT_ suggesting people seek and destroy all non-compliant US Flags! Many would disappear overnight. I mean that literally. The flag is to be lighted at all times it is displayed. There are long standing rituals surrounding the raising and lowering of our flag. If it is to be flown between sunset and sunrise it _is_ to be illuminated. <<— full stop!

All I seek is for folks to review the rules and resist urges to support non compliant usage in the future.

June 14th is Flag Day in these great United States of America!

Please join me in my quest to educate folks and enjoy what we Americans have left to enjoy.(every day)
    :-)

I was put on “Spiriva” the damn powder, some assembly required.
The one time I paid full price was US$397.xx at Walmart.

I now get my Symbicort (budesonide-formoterol) from InHousePharmacy.vu (Vanatu is kinda near Australia)
Same contents but branded as Foracort.

Symbicort(and Foracort) comes “pre-assembled” no messing with powder!
I spend about US$1.10 per day (US$0.27 per puff).
I pay by check via bill pay at my bank.
4-6 weeks after they get funds package arrives.

The reason I am waxing Filo about that vendor is that you can try it before you change over and have some extra.

    Most important IT_WORKS_FOR_ME_!!! :-)

My perscription does not allow for any extra puffs for rescue.
The doc, insurers, etc. squeeze more $$$ for a phone call when you run short.

It’s easier than going to the pharmacy but it does take planning ahead and clicking on your bank website to pay.

    YMMV

Test the outlets and switches with a known good light/radio/vacuume/etc.
Test the device on a known good outlet somewhere else.

If the screws on the switches and outlets were not properly tightened when replacing your outlets you might get similar symptoms. Temperature may improve/degrade a loose connection.

Poor connections can create a LOT of extra heat in the wall socket. Is your installation still under warranty???

If you can(are willing to) operate a screwdriver _AND_ have portable battery light you might SHUT_OFF_POWER, test that it is off with a known good working light, and check if the screws that attach the wire to the switches and outlets are tight.

An outlet tester is cheaper than an electrician.
A pass/fail light will check wiring.
An Amp/Volt/Watt meter will also measure things for about 2-3 times the cost of idiot light, between US$12.00-30.00.
(Kill-A-Watt is a popular name brand to begin search)

An electrician is way way way cheaper than a fire.

    Topic tangent,,,
I make my own air filter with a 20x20x5inch MERV16 filter from Lennox(for a furnace) taped ‘in front of’ a Lasko 20inch Box Fan. (in front also keeps the fan clean)
Filter is US$100 and lasts me over a year.
I measure PM2.5 and PM10 to know that filter is good.
Add an inexpensive generic 20x20x1 filter for pet hair if needed.

On Jan. 4 2022 the S&P 500 set a new price record of US$4818.62. The record high ‘closing’ price back then was on Jan. 3 2022 of US$4796.56.

On Oct. 13 2022 the S&P 500 traded thru US$3500 to a low of US$3491.58. The lowest “Bidenomics” close was on Oct. 12 2022 of US$3577.03.

    The high/low total range was US$1327.04, that’s more than a 27.5% drop.

On Jan. 11 2024 the S&P 500 finally traded briefly at 4798.50. That was over TWO YEARS trading below the old record close.
It was not until Jan. 19 2024 with a close of US$4839.81 that the old record was broken. All on Low Joe’s watch.

Well done Bidenomics!!! The new record is 0.89% higher.
We are ‘numerically’ back to where we were two years ago minus inflation. The recently publicly educated may think that is progress.

This is definately not a new struggle between sikh seperatists in Canada and India. This is also not the beginning of Canada picking a side.

Jussee Trudy depends on his sikh/Singh support.

Also, ‘potentially’ associated with the folks that blew up Air India Flight #182 in 1985.

    see
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_India_Flight_182

“killing all 329 people aboard, including 268 Canadian citizens, 27 British citizens, and 24 Indian citizens”

The #2 bomb in Japan only killed 2 folks because the Singh bombers did not factor in a ‘daylight saving time’ clock adjustment.

Canada also has a well documented double standard regarding bladed weapons and seperatist sikh zealots.

Lots of ignorant knee jerk in this thread.

There is video of her vaping.
Vaping releases at minimum Propoline Glycol(PG) or Vegetable Glycerin(VG) _NOT_ water vapor. (probably harmless but annoying to clean from auto glass)
If it were water vapor we would call it steam and that is not harmless. (unless it was below the dew-point (very cold for people in slinky dresses))
The typical reason to vape unadulterated juice is to make billowing clouds. Not a stealthy theater activity.
There are also low visibility mixtures of juice for stealth.
People vape adulterated PG & VG for 2 main reasons, flavor and/or drugs.
Nicotine was the most common drug early on but nowadays vaping THC in public is the thing.
THC and Nicotine vaping is often odorless that is why it is popular!!!
Nicotine and THC are not a cool thing to waft about among innocent strangers.

If folks want to learn more head to a dispensary website and see what is available. It is _NOT_ water vapor.

Minnesota's Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher has spoken at length on this subject during some of his “Live On Patrol” livestreams.
    (available on YT and fakebook)

His latest is from Wednesday Sept. 6th 2023
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbpBKiqXFb8
(His son Kyle (RIP) is the artist performing bumper/intro)

He discusses the SRO issue at the 15 minute mark and again 4 hours later. Many towns/cities LEOs are pulling the SRO’s due to safety and liability issues.

I watch most every Friday night at 21:11(9:11) hrs. CDT Minnesota time.
Usually starts late, they chase children car thiefs that often have guns. The Sheriff usually allows his deputies to chase and many are trained to PIT. It is the real deal and sometimes it gets boring but the Sheriff has good stories he tells.

Huge difference in crime between St. Paul and Minneapolis just across the river. ‘Fletch’ may be a conservative(not sure) but in Minnesota that looks kinda liberal to me.
One thing that keeps me coming back to this show is seeing many of the amazing churches in St. Paul.

It is sad that you regurgitate the CCP propaganda with conviction.

An education can be obtained from ‘serpentza’ , ‘ADVChina’ or ‘The China Show’ on yt, if you are receptive. Serpentza started out 14 years or so ago as an advocate for China. “China, How It Is” is a popular theme from his early videos of a decade ago.

He/They have visited every provonce/state in China on a motorcycle and met the locals.

He/They are biased against but they have valid personal reasons. The CCP peeled back their rose colored glasses and stomped on them, then made them eat the broken shards.

There exists a thing called Dynamic Domain Name System(DDNS).

A host on the inside reports the IP address to an outside location. Many home routers have this feature.

An example with a free option is no-ip.com
    Others exist with free options.
Look in your router and see who they ‘suggest’.

From the outside you go to yourchosenname.noip.com

I second and/or third some others on the following.

I will add links to examples below. I use Amcrest but many vendors have quality products.

I record locally only, never a bit out on the WAN!

Wired only, WiFi is _NOT_ secure(ity)!

Wired Internet Protocol(IP) cameras need somewhere to plug in.
If you router needs more ports you just expand with an ethernet switch. (more on the subject below)

IP cameras and Network Video Recorder(NVR) go together.
Other usually older cameras record on a DigitalVideoRecorder(DVR) . They also make recorders that do both.

IP cameras come with and without the Power Over Ethernet (POE) feature. POE devices just require 1 ethernet wire for communication and power so a technician pulling wires will have less to do!
IP cameras often can include storage right on the camera.
You can store on the camera _AND_ on an NVR.
You install a uSD card(up to 1T) inside the camera before installation.

NVRs come with and without the POE feature.
NVRs come with and without storage. If you can operate a phillips screwdriver you might choose to install your own hard drive and save money. They only hook up one way with keyed connectors. Deals on NVR with hard disk installed exist too if you are patient.

The power for POE needs to come from somewhere.
A ‘POE NVR’ supplies the power and records. And costs more.

Ethernet switches some in a few flavors.
With and without POE and/or managed/unmanaged.
Few need a managed switch outside of large networks.

A POE Switch is a local ethernet accessory that can add POE to a conventional NVR that does not have POE capability.

For cameras I do not get 4K 8 megapixel cameras because they use smaller pixels and smaller pixels have less area to gather photons during low light situations.

For me the sweet spot is 4-5 megapixel cameras.
A bit larger than 1080P HD.

More megapixels also takes more space on your NVR recordings.

I use Amcrest POE IP cameras and an Amcrest non-POE NVR.
Amcrest is made for them by Dahua and many Amcrest cameras can be ‘upgraded’ for free by installing Dahua firmware on them. This can add features like better motion detection(great) and people recognition(mediocre).
I also use a PC program called Frigate as an NVR.

I inject power to conventional ethernet with POE switches.
I have 1 Amcrest POE switch. I also have 2 other POE switches.

I suggest you might/could start out with ‘just’ a single POE IP cam if it can also be conventionally powered with a 12VDC 2A wall wart.
That way you can log onto the camera and see how stuff works.
Most IP cams and NVRs have very similar interfaces because the task is the same.

You can just point it out a window for starters. Then since you will have to learn the usage anyways, get a NVR and learn it before you decide where you want everything before you contract the installation labor.

Another benifit of starting slow is learning what lens works best in your situation. Many common IP cameras come in 2 different angles of coverage. Narrow angle(zoom) larger (8-13) mm number on the (long)lens. Wide angle shorter (2-3) mm number on the (short)lens. Zoomable cameras (2.5-14mm) exist too, just like pan/tilt can be added for a price.

The night vision capabilities have to do with how bright the installed InfraRed(IR) LightEmittingDiodes(LEDs) are.
Shorter night ‘range’ cam will run cooler in hot places and extra IR lights can be added close to the area of interest. Far north and the added heat is not gonna shorten the life of everything as fast. It’s still years but may matter because when ladders are involved less is more!

You can also make a “poor mans NVR”(my term) if your router has cifs, ftp, or NFS storage capabilities with a hard disk plugged into a routers USB port. Amcrest (and others) can store data in many places including in the storm ‘cloud’.
That is another way to experiment with just one IP camera!

    Last tidbit...
Recording many cameras capturing everything will(might) take up a lot of your networks bandwidth. Many set up a whole seperate router and keep the cam stuff completely off of the internet connected router. Better performance and security.

Learn a bit and watch some video’s on YT.
Keep an open mind about brands and OPINIONS.

We can also use google maps to see the heights involved, Layers->Terrain.
The hill _above_ the tourist trap is ~4800 feet above sea level. The depth of the valley below the tourist trap is about ~2000 feet above sea level, probably much higher.
Even if he made it all the way to the river level ~1200 still not a 4000 foot drop.

I read one blurb that implied a ‘ranger’ said “over 4000 feet”. Welcome to Earth 2023.

Still, it was a momentus accomplishment.
