TECH PING Looking at Camera Security for my House. Seems Expensive. Your expreiences?

I am planning to install an around the house night vision camera system. Hardwired. My electrician can run the negligible additional wiring needed. I would like it to record to an on site recorder. I would like it to alert us when people arrive and allow us to look through phone or tablet. I would like to be able to move it to internet surveillance when we are off the property.

Is this doable?

I see systems prices all over the map.

At what sort of cost

Who could do it? An electrician?

I have had big deal national alarm company in and they want to put in systems for nothing but have me pay for monthly monitoring. I don't want that. I want at this time just to be able to see who arrives and leaves and have it recorded.

Your experiences and advice would be appreciated.

What good is it if the cops don’t come? You are not allowed to defend yourself either.

A national stand-your-ground law is needed. Concealed carry too.

I have a 4-camera setup that cost less than $150.
The cameras are very cheap -around $25.
Just get the box it goes into, plug everything in and done.
Many don’t have hard drives in them, but those aren’t pricey.
My last one and current one sends the signal for the cameras to my iPhone anytime I click the app.

There’s far too many brands to name. I’d suggest looking at the ones with the best reviews.

I was kinda like you. Didn’t want monthly service. Didn’t want it to call the cops for me. I also didn’t want to run wires, so got a wireless one. It’s still working many years later. Mine was from Amazon “Crystal Vision.” I’ve never implemented the online features.
I think that even Costco has some decent systems.

Best system I ever had is the Harbor Freight Bunker Hill system. All hard wired and DVR is kept separate from your router for the home. Once every 3 months you just copy the video files to an external storage device, or rewrite over itself. A good weekend job to install it well. A week to learn it and adjust your zones and triggers.

Very reliable.

State law explicitly imposes a duty to retreat before resorting to deadly force outside the home.

Not worried about outside the home.

If you want something cheap, I’m happy with my Blink system. I think it was around 60 bucks for a refurb three camera system and another 30 for power supplies. You can run them on battery but they get used up pretty quick.

I’m not cloud connected, it all goes to a memory stick so no ongoing costs other than the trivial amount of electricity they use.

I also have a Blink camera system. It does the job and is relatively cheap.

I got this from Amazon:

MUBVIEW Solar Security Cameras Wireless Outdoor, 360° PTZ Battery Powered Outdoor Camera, 2.4Ghz WiFi Security Camera for Home, 2K, Color Night Vision, Motion Detection, 2-Way Audio, SD/Cloud Storage

Wireless—so no need to run wires from outside to inside, and i got a larger solar power panel, so plenty of power... In Summer, so far. It is also usb rechargeable, so I could run an extension cord and usb cable to it.

$49.99, with free Amazon Prime shipping.

I bought this one and ran the wires myself and screwed the cameras in, everything is made to simply hand connect, no tools are needed except for a screwdriver.

There is nothing special about this set and there seem to be many versions of it from different companies and you can do much better but it gives you an idea of what is out there.

I suggest either Q See or Lorex camera systems. Both are good and have a range of products and prices. You’re looking for cameras with at least 700 TVL (tv lines). Kits typically come with 4 cameras and a DVR. Nvr is also available (network video recorder).

You put a lot of requirements there that will drive up the cost.

Yew, it’s all doable.

For a price.

Why not just use the standard ADT package?

Doorbell camera, camera out back (you can add up to 3 more), all motion sensing all night vision. Immediate phone alerts.
Speakers/microphones on the cameras. Motion sensors all over the house. You can remote in from anywhere and look at current view or past events.

Alerts via internet connection and cellular if you lose internet. Notifies the cop shop and/or fire dept.

$75/month, no purchase. All under maintenance.

You’re going to need a static IP from your internet provider in order to access your VMS over the web. If you can’t get that then don’t bother.

You should plan out how you pull the cables to the cameras from the DVR / Power supply. A fish tape wire of at least 50’ serves you well to keep the cables unobserved. Each camera comes with a 50’ cable set. If you need longer you can buy extenders for pretty cheap. Ours supports 8 cameras, color video and audio. Infrared for night color too.
