The collapse of the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has reopened wounds in the community, with a prominent leader suggesting politically correct lesbians were responsible for the debacle.

Ha! Everyone knows lesbians are a grim, humorless lot who bring nothing to a party. Also, isn't Mardi Gras right before Lent? Or is it February in Australia?

Have you ever noticed this what they say just about every time when some mass murderer, child molester, school shooter, terrorist, etc. gets arrested and they go ask their former acquaintances about them. Just another innocent, misguided Muslim. Yah right...

"He was a quiet guy... Kept to himself mostly."

Do they keep Anna sedated 24/7? All those commercials of her show featuring her slurring her words and speaking as if she just woke up.

I've caught those commercials a couple of times, and it appears to me that she is probably a prescription sedative abuser. She has all the same mannerisms as a friend of mine who got addicted to Xanex.

Oh man....This should be fun! Maybe if osama ate peas instead (insert non veggie food here) he would be happy and peaceful. Yea. Right.

Not at all; Osama, like Hitler was a vegetatian. From personal experience, I've found that most vegetarians I've met cannot make meaniful and emotional connections with other human beings, so thet transfer these feelings onto animals.

An ITC spokeswoman told Ananova: "We've had complaints from parents who say the advert has made their children too scared to use the bathroom. They think the eels will come out of the taps and the toilet.

What a nation of wimps they are raising over there. Although I guess we can't be to smug; the same thing is happening over here.

Sen. George Voinovich doesn't think so. The Ohio Republican boycotted a hearing of an Environment and Public Works subcommittee Thursday to protest the appearance of Kevin Richardson of the pop group Backstreet Boys, who was testifying against the coal mining technique known as mountaintop removal

Good for the senator. Mountaintop removable is a serious issue and isn't served by giving credibility to some teeny-bopper pop star just because he happened to be born in a coal producing region.

Denny's sucks, and I refuse to go there anymore. The service is lousy, the food is lousy, and as far as I'm concerned, there are enough Cracker Barrels and Waffle Houses out on the road to eliminate the need to ever stop at Denny's

I couldn't agree more. I've been to several Denny's from the East Coast to the West Coast, and at their very best they are mediocre. It doesn't matter what state you're in or the ethnicity of the staff; the service is always slow, the food poorly prepared, and the the order is usually wrong (but since you waited for two hours you don't risk sending it back and having it wait another two hours). If I'm in situation where there's nowhere to eat at but a Denny's, I'll choose a gas station. The quality of the food is about the same and you don't have to wait.

Abdel Qassem, who intends challenging Yasser Arafat for president of the Palestinian Authority in upcoming elections

If this man has any realistic chance of beating Arafat in an election, his are numbered. Does anyone honestly believe Ol' Yasser would ever permit a fair election that might end his power?

As a teen-age camp counselor I once had to show -- without bursting out laughing -- a group of impressionable adolescents the cult classic anti-drug movie "Reefer Madness," which purports to prove that the evil weed makes you wacky and violent.

This ridiculous movie ended up having the opposite effect intended; just about every pothead I knew in college had it in their video library along with Up In Smoke and Halfbaked. Also, I doubt it was marijuana that brought Ozzy to his present state.

Howard Manoian, 77, one of Steele’s former comrades, came from America to live at Saint Mère 18 years ago. This weekend Mr Manoian said that Americans were no longer as welcome as they used to be. “There was a time when Americans could do no wrong here,” the retired Massachusetts police officer told reporters. “We Americans stick our noses in everybody’s affairs. We push them around.”

Good riddance. Why I am not suprised this appeasing suck-up is from Massachusetts?

I'm not claiming to have any solutions here, but speaking from personal experience, I believe the WOD is the best thing to happen to marijuana. In the 1970s and early 80s, before the govenment started cracking down hard on marijuana growers, most pot was grown outdoors, in Mexico and the Corn Belt, having a THC level at 3-5% at best. The WOD forced the growers to move indoors, where they would have complete control over the 5 factors for growing optimum plants: water, soil nutrients, light, temperature, and carbon dioxide levels. Also, many of these growers, being talented botanists, could crossbread the older, now obsolete plants to produce marijuana plants genetically superior and a lot more potent to anything produced in the past, which can be cloned again and again. Now most marijuana sold has a THC level of 12-20%.

Today, the ordinary Chinese citizen cannot indulge in reading the perverted online views of CNN or the Washington Post.

Not to make light of the grave situation in China, but if I had kids I would probably put a filter on CNN and the Washington Post too; these sites are worse than porn on an impressionable young mind.

Having a chemistry and chemical engineering background, I would suspect that the study is somehow flawed. If it was limited to people with mild situational depression, then a placebo would be expected to perform about the same as the real drug. If it were limited to people with severe, recalcitrant depression, then it is likely that the drugs would perform significantly better than the placebo. Unfortunately, I believe that the scientific education of those debating against me pretty much ended after the 8th grade.

I think you hit nail right on the head. Many of those who deny that depression and ADHD are not real medical problems usually do not have education to make such assumptions. I myself, bought into this line of thinking for years, and thought my depression was a personality flaw that could be cured by positive thinking. I had to lose the woman I loved, and my job to consider I had a chemical imbalance. I totally agree that an active spiritual life is important for a healthy well-balanced life, but some people's brains lack the chemicals to maintane a normal, functional outlook of life. That's where real, psychoactive medication needs to be involved to correct the imbalance.

Now you may argue that was a placebo effect, that she only felt better because she thought she was on something that worked. Do you really think I give a hoot whether it was a placebo effect or an actual effect? Her emotional state is much better now (and she's beating the leukemia).

I doubt it was a placebo effect. I was clinically depressed for years. I first tried St. John's Wort and other natural remedies, and they didn't help at all. I finally broke down and saw a doctor and got a prescription for Wellbutrin, and my life has been 100% better since. If these anti-depressants were simply placebos, the St. John's Wort should have had the same effect as the Wellbutrin. I wonder if the writer of this article is involved with Scientology?
