  • Mormon Volunteers Outperform Government in New England Sandy Aid

    breitbart.com ^ | 5 Nov 2012 | Dr. Susan Berry
Many who are still without heat, water, and power following Hurricane Sandy, are looking to the federal government to provide the kind of organized and effective disaster relief that can restore their lives. Can private groups and citizens offer what is needed in this time of crisis?...

This may be the post that gets me zotted, and if so, so be it, but it would be a nice sign of respect for free speech, and just plain old maturity if that doesn’t happen. I won’t lose sleep either way though. All through the Clinton years FR played a key role in helping me really come to appreciate the wisdom of the founding fathers as Clinton violated their principles in so many ways. I found here a large community of wise, informed posters from a diverse background that added depth and clarity to the news of the day....
  • Newt really is the anti-Romney

Comparing and contrasting Newt and Mitt is a real eye-opener. The two men have taken very different paths in their personal and professional lives, and have wildly different personalities. Newt is a dreamer, Mitt a doer. Newt is reckless, Mitt is careful. Newt is famously undisciplined, Mitt is the epitome of self-discipline. Romney is a leader, Newt simply is not–according to those who worked most closely with him. Both men are intelligent, yet have chosen different ways to use their intelligence. In education, Romney pursued business and law, while Newt chose modern European History. Romney earned his education quickly and...
  • Americas Newest Mormon Conservative Leader – Rush Limbaugh?

    03/31/2011 10:00:16 PM PDT · by Grig · 96 replies · 2+ views
Rush Limbaugh confirmed today the rumor that he and his wife Catherine have been meeting with Mormon missionaries for the past few months and are seriously considering committing to the Utah based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Limbaugh was quite forthcoming in how his fascination with Mormonism began. “Over the years there have been a number of things about the Mormons that have really caught my attention.” Limbaugh stated. “Mormons are the most conservative religious group in the United States, their support for President Bush, traditional marriage, the tea party, really earned them my respect.” Rush said....

400 years ago Catholics looked on Protestantism as a cult of Christianity that lead people to hell, and looked on Protestants as not really being Christians. Clearly they've changed their minds a bit over the years on that. In time, the same thing will happen with respect to Mormons IMHO. In fact it largely has already. While there are still some who speak of Mormons the same way that Catholics spoke of Protestants centuries ago, society in general recognizes The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints as a Christian group. For example: Beliefnet.com lists Latter-Day Saints as a part...

I can still remember my feelings the time I saw tears of repentance streaming down the face of my 10-year-old son, Arián. He had been playing with his older brother, Joel, who was 12, in the bedroom, when all of a sudden an argument broke out, and I had to intervene and reestablish order. Perhaps because of their ages, fighting had become frequent between the boys. In response, Arián, who was visibly shaken and crying after his altercation with his brother, responded to me in an unacceptable manner. I corrected him twice (now his argument was with me), but the...
  • Doctor Who to marry his own daughter...sort of

    01/06/2011 4:54:33 PM PST · by Grig · 34 replies · 1+ views
Actor David Tennant is to marry actress Georgia Moffett. That news is fairly straightforward, albeit devastating for several single women I know. But the type of viewer who gets confused between actors and the televisual roles they play should just give up now. You see, the pair met during the filming of the 2008 Doctor Who episode The Doctor’s Daughter. Tennant, of course, played the Doctor, while Moffett played his daughter. Well, sort of. The character Jenny was in fact created by inserting the Doctor’s hand into a progeneration machine, a device that took a diploid cell (containing copies of...
  • Mormonism in the Early Jewish Christian Milieu

Roman Catholic apologist Patrick Madrid recently posed a challenging question for Latter-day Saints. That is, if Mormonism is essentially a "restoration" of primitive Christianity, where can we find historical evidence for some ancient Christian group that "was identical to the Mormon Church of today"? He goes on, "We have records of many controversies that raged in the early days of the Church…, and there just is no evidence-none at all-that Mormonism existed prior to the 1830s."1 Whether Mr. Madrid is adequately informed about LDS claims and the state of the evidence concerning them, is beside the point. If Latter-day Saints...

Mormonism--Shadow or Reality?, the magnum opus of Jerald and Sandra Tanner, has periodically received uncritical acclaim. In the May 1973 issue of their newsletter The Salt Lake City Messenger, the Tanners promoted their then newly revised and enlarged edition of Shadow or Reality? with the praise of Dr. Jennings G. Olson, then on the faculty of the Department of Philosophy at Weber State College in Ogden. Olson observed "it is tightly packed with serious, responsible research which no one can deny is the most comprehensive and thorough analysis and evaluation of Mormonism ever produced in the history of the Church."1...

An inexpensive drug already in use for other diseases might hold the key to a completely new way of treating cancers -- not by killing off cancer cells, but by simply reprogramming them. The finding comes from some exciting Canadian research on patients with brain tumours. The study found that DCA -- or dichloroacetate -- can shrink the tumours by altering a cancer cell's metabolism....

Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh will be announcing his run for President of the United States when he returns to hosting his popular broadcast following the Easter Weekend. An anonymous source close to Limbaugh has revealed that he has been rapidly gearing up for the GOP nomination race while he as been away from the show this past week. His website only says that he is in a 'super secret location', jokingly suggesting he may be looking for health care alternatives. The source elaborated that Limbaugh's feelings about running for office have been slowly changing over the past year...
  • TRON Legacy: Group 1 Access to Encom

Disney is really playing up this Encom thing, I think/hope this is all about setting up the back story to the movie. Friday is the live press conf, but if you go to the Flynn Lives site now, you can access the internal Encom website via accounts from various executives. For example, if you plug Kurt Hardington into the cracker and log in, you can find a link to an extended version of the Allan Bradley IGN interview (with the parts Encom wanted edited out), and access to his PC via a remote desktop. Plus you have the real news...

The water utility in Edmonton, EPCOR, published the most incredible graph of water consumption last week. By now you’ve probably heard that up to 80% of Canadians were watching last Sunday’s gold medal Olympic hockey game. So I guess it stands to reason that they’d all go pee between periods. But still—the degree to which the water consumption matches with the key breaks in the hockey game is stunning.
