I found this on a web forum in Lawrence, KS. Some peacenics are coming to Topeka to protest the war. All Kansas FREEPERS should show up to FREEP them. Here is the anouncement, mission statement from the peacenics. Peace Rally Work with the U.N. No unilateral action Topekans (and Kansans everywhere) concerned about the possibility of the United States unilaterally going to war with Iraq are invited to gather for a Peace Rally and March on Saturday, December 7, at 10:30 a.m. on the south steps of the State Capitol. People with differing concerns about the potential war are invited...

If you have ever walked down Massachusetts Street and seen about 200 women marching together, chanting, Yes means yes and no means no, whatever I wear, wherever I go! you were probably witnessing the Womyn Take Back the Night march. Take Back the Night is a protest against sexual and domestic violence and the oppression of women. The KU Womyn´s Empowerment Action Coalition, or WEAC, sponsors Lawrence´s march, which began 15 years ago and has been a community tradition ever since. For many years, an ongoing discourse has surrounded men´s involvement in the event. Lawrence´s march has always included men...

The Salvation Army has been rejected as the beneficiary of donated goods collected during a food drive sponsored by a student group of social workers on campus. Citing the Salvation Army´s position on same-sex orientation, The Bachelor of Social Welfare Student Organization, which began the drive Oct. 21, decided all food collected after the initial two weeks of the drive would go only to the Ballard Community Center, 708 Elm St. The group met Nov. 8, two weeks into the drive, to make the decision. “I feel like we have learned our lesson and know now we have to do...

Sunday, November 24, 2002 Probe of 'militias' is sought By Ignacio Ibarra ARIZONA DAILY STAR Arizona leaders at the state and federal level are calling for investigations into armed civilian patrols along the state's border with Mexico. At issue is the safety of people along the border and the legality of the so-called militia groups, formed out of frustration at the inability of U.S. border agents to slow illegal immigration from Mexico. U.S. Rep.-elect Raúl Grijalva, a Tucson Democrat who takes office in January, said he will push for federal hearings into the activities of the civilian patrols. Grijalva's pledge...
  • Womyn debate male participation

About 20 people gathered Saturday at the Lawrence Public Library to debate which portions of April´s `Womyn Take Back the Night´ should include men. Participants at the meeting said answering such questions in advance would help make the event effective for the women who planned to attend. Lea Carland, Lawrence senior, said women survivors of violence and rape did not traditionally have a social space in which to discuss their experiences. Carland said men should show their support during the `Womyn Take Back the Night´ march through downtown Lawrence in April. But, she said, the Survivor´s Circle that night which...

Investigators hunting the Washington area sniper have cast the net far and wide over the region's gun community — confiscating sign-in logs from shooting ranges, tracking sales of .223-caliber weapons and knocking on gun owners' doors.

Montgomery County police and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) came knocking on the door of Ken Scott's home in Silver Spring twice last week, asking for his thoughts about the shooting spree and about where he was during the times of the shootings.

The Lawrence Coalition for Peace & Justice sponsors a Peace Vigil (no war against Iraq) in front of the courthouse every Saturday from noon to 1:00 p.m. There were nearly 300 for the first march but typically there are 80 participants. I spotted this posted on the larryville forum. Its at http://www.larryville.com/forum/index.cgi and loaded with leftover 60s hippies, vegans, pagans, commies, and more by the way. Check it out for some amusement. Anyway, this presents a great FREEP opportunity for the Freepers in the Lawrence area. We could put together more than 80 protesters to rebut them.

The owner of two pit bulls shot by Portland and Gresham police in his back yard Tuesday night plans to file complaints against the officers. Jeryl De Paolis said Wednesday that the officers, who were searching for a fugitive who fled a nearby house, didn't notify him before returning to conduct a second search of his yard. Also, De Paolis said, one officer pressed a handgun to his chest after firing several shots at his dogs. One dog, a pregnant 5-year- old, died. A bullet is lodged in the jaw of the second, a 3- year-old awaiting surgery at an...

My sometimes fertile mind | Today | Me
Allow me to indulge in my rendition of They Way We Were for Babs and Co. Memories like bong resin my mind. Simply pornographic memories Of they way they were. Scattered garbage in the White House they left behind, Pardons sold to the highest bidder That's the way they were. Can it be that it was all so sleazy then, Or have we forgotten every crime? If we had the chance to suffer through it all again, Tell me? would we? could we? The Clintons were corrupt as hell and yet, What's too painful to remember We're simply told to...
