The Lawrence Coalition for Peace & Justice sponsors a Peace Vigil (no war against Iraq) in front of the courthouse every Saturday from noon to 1:00 p.m. There were nearly 300 for the first march but typically there are 80 participants.
I spotted this posted on the larryville forum. Its at http://www.larryville.com/forum/index.cgi and loaded with leftover 60s hippies, vegans, pagans, commies, and more by the way. Check it out for some amusement.
Anyway, this presents a great FREEP opportunity for the Freepers in the Lawrence area. We could put together more than 80 protesters to rebut them.

Boy, I'm sorry your frequent the larryville forum. My wife and I got out of Lawrence as soon as we could. If possible we would avoid Lawrence totally.

I do it mostly for recon purposes. You know, keep track of the enemy's movements.

I live in Lawrence...yes, one of the two Ks counties to go Gore...what is the deal with Saturday. I am supposed to be going to the football game this week, but I would love the details and to know if others are going to the FReep!
Sounds like fun! It was a hoot going to the plaza during the recount fiasco. Freepers are the best!

Yes, but Douglas County just barely went for Gore.
I don't think Lawrence is as bad as some people say. It's definitely not Berkeley.

My husband grew up in Lawrence and we're both alums. Me twice. We have to sons at KU. I hate the term "Larryville."
At one time we thought of retiring there but it's gotten so crowded... still might. Trust me, it's always been weird. The difference now is the density.
I keep wanting to meet area freepers and then not showing up but ping me and I might make it.

It is not nearly the freakshow it once was now that it is a yuppy bedroom community for KC. Those women even shave their legs. They still have a Birkenstock store downtown though.

Totally off topic: I am listening to the police scanner in Topeka. (Yes, I am a geek) TPD, SnCo Sheriff, INS and the National Guard are raiding several houses on the East side and out in the county. Lots of chatter about National Guard signal 15 (drug) dogs and waiting for INS to show up at the various addresses to pick up illegals. Yes I did say National Guard.

Wow. Out east you say? Where at exactly? (If you've heard.) I wonder whether that'll be on the news tonight.

I've got to read that book. I was in Big Bend National Park recently, and everyone was telling me that was Louis L'Amour territory.

300 block of Leland, somewhere on Arter, SE6th, SE Pennsyvania and out on NE 37th off K4 near Reeses Orchard. there were some more but I cannot recall right now.
Whether it makes the news or not is a wash. About one-fourth to one-half of these "major" events do. The others do not. That is the main reason I am addicted to my precious scanner. The armed robbery at 10th and Oakley last night hasn't made the news yet either. (One block from home.)

Louis L'Amour
I owe much of my love of reading to picking up a Louis L'Amour book in my youth.

Thank you...your sympathy is much appreciated. Basketbal has officially started. "Late night with Roy" was last Friday night. Thank God.
"Wait 'til basketball season," is a motto we live by here in Lawrence.
