Darrow never hosted a fundraiser for Feingold--the idea that he did is just untrue.

Neither Michels nor Darrow's contributions matter. Especially for someone that also likes Michels.
Yes Darrow gave money to the guy he is running against--BIG DEAL, Yes Michels gave money to Doyle DURING the election for Gov--they are still our best hope to defeat Feingold. Better question is how do think Michels will defeat Russ Feingold? How is a far right candidate that is unknown throughout the state going to appeal with little money to the vast majority of the state that is Moderate and never hears about these candidates? Explain to me how Michels has any chance to win--because he is younger?

Too bad none of those farmers will have any idea who this Michles guy is--no name ID=no chance to win.
Plus the Reagan Dems are going to play a huge part in this race and there is no way they vote for an extreme conservative.
Darrow is against same-sex marriage, from what I heard that reporter just wanted to make a story and misquoted him.

You make some really good points and while we all agree that times have changed since 1998 the voters here in WI still see Feingold as this Ind.-Mod. nice guy. And it does not help when the head of the Libertarian party in the state endorses RF.

That being said WI is interesting in that you have some large pockets of liberalism (Madison, Milwaukee), some large pockets of conservatism (Waukesha, Washington, Ozaukee, and the Valley) and you have the rest that is very moderate--especially the central part of the state--a lot of Mod. Dems.

It is an interesting state--but one thing that is true is that if the voters do not know who you are they are not going to vote for you and that is Michels problem--I have seen him and he seems nice enough but like you said I think there is a chance that Feingold could be replaced and I do not want to miss it with an unknown candidate when we have a true WI success story with great name ID and $$$ in Darrow.

Just my two cents and I am proud to do whatever I can to help Darrow defeat Feingold!

The age is an interesting topic, one remembers Pres. Reagan's I won't use my opponents youth and inexperience comment. That really holds true here. Michels is too young and has no expereince in politics--expect that he ran against a sitting conservate State Senator a couple years ago and lost every town except his home town--that doesnt bode well for this race.
Darrow is just as conservative as Michels but speaking to the businessman side Darrow is the true businessman success story, Darrow started his own company.
Michels is not known throughout the state--there is no way he could beat Feingold.
Darrow has had dealerships in Milwaukee and Madison (the two liberal population centers) for over 30 years and has been very active in the community--he can sway some of those moderate liberal voters.
What is interesting is that people here in WI are trying to make Darrow seem like this old foggy but no one mentions that Michels has 3 children under 5--one would think that that would take a lot of time out of someone's life?

Hello serious challenger to Russ Feingold. I always liked Darrow but was unsure if he was 100% committed to the race but this proves it--he wants to win and can!!!! Go Darrow!!!! www.russdarrowsenate.com

I do not want to anger anyone, and i respect everyone's right to have an opinion, but I fear some of you have your Packer goggles on (if you are from WI then you'll understand).
Magnus is right, in the sense that he SHOULD have all those things, but Sen. Welch does not. He was the first candidate to jump in the race but has the least (by far) amount of money. He has a very weak organization and is barley hanging onto the little support he has. He does not have the best chance of winning a statewide election partially evident by the whomping he took against Kohl.

While Feingold is seen to us as an ultra-liberal he is seen by Jon Q. Public as a moderate, while Sen Welch is seen by us as "a solid conservative," he is seen by John Q Public as a Right-Wing Extremist. That will not get him elected.

I saw him (Michels) speak once and there is a fine line between passionate and Dean-like and let me tell you he was way too much like Dean for me, i was scared he was going to come into the audience and tell me to drop and give him 50. Plus he did sound canned like the other person said.

I think i posted this in the wrong spot, but now Darrow has the endorsement of two of possible candidates from a couple months ago. I remember reading some people on this board being very enthused about candidate Finely and he and Farrow are more than just paper endorsements for Darrow they are out there making speeches for him!! And they both feel that Darrow is the only one that can beat Feingold which is the key to the deal!!!

  • Senate candidates disagree on gay marriage ban [Wisconsin]

That is true, if the judges do rule that then the Congress should act, but until then shouldn't we allow individual states to enact or strengthen their defense of marriage laws? Last count I heard was that 36/37 states have done this, with WI's Gov. vetoing the bill (with a cop out answer of our state constitution already says this and this is just more leg on top of that).
But the point being shouldn't more power not less be given to states?
With that being said Russ Darrow has said that if what you outline occurs then he would do what ever it takes (including a Fed Amendment) to defend the marriage.

Russ Darrow is Pro-life, unless have proof that he isn't a link or something do not say that he is anti-life.

Welch is the most conservative of all the candidates running, but they are all CONSERVATIVE. We have to remember that while they are all conservative if we pick the candidate that is the most (or appears to be) the most extreme we will not be able to beat "Nice guy
    Feingold.

Darrow is the only one that can beat Feingold!
Welch got crushed by Kolh and Michels was destroyed in his State Senate bid in '98 (20 some odd percent) he even lost his own home area and this race was very nasty (it was a Rep primary).

Russ Darrow does support this--the reporter messed up, Darrow has said many times that he believes marriage should be only between a man and woman. The issue is whether or not states will take care of it first--37 or so states already have.

All of the candidates will use this against Feingold but the questions is which candidate has a chance to win and Darrow is the only one that can--he is raising the money, gaining the grassroots support, has the name ID, and is apealing to a broad base,
