Kareme Shalome is the main/only commercial crossing between Israel and Egypt. There are usually a lot of large semi-trucks lined up waiting to cross into Israel to sell their goods. It was established by treaty in the 70s.
There is also a Multinational Forces and Observers (MFO) peacekeeping compound on the Egyptian side.
If anyone was injured it was most likely Egyptian truck drivers as the military buildings are reinforced.
I was in the MFO from 06-07.
