Photojournalist Stephanie Keith's first Christian rock show was in 2002, when she walked into a Kansas City coffeehouse and saw a punk band playing staunchly Christian tunes. "It seemed like such a contradiction in terms," she says, remembering the incongruity between the band's brash sound and its intensely Christian message. Over four years, Keith attended dozens of major Christian rock festivals -- including the New Hampshire's Soul Festival, Pennsylvania's Creation Festival, New Jersey's Autumn Blaze event and Virginia's Acquire the Fire fest -- many of which showcase the abundance of Christian punk, emo and hardcore bands. The twelve photographs that...

Greetings fellow Freepers! I started emailing a guy I met via YouTube some weeks ago after he posted the now infamous "Green Helmet Guy" footage. We've been talking about our opinions on issues concerning the middle east ... blaa...blaa...blaa. Most of his emails to me have been coherant and to say the least, revealing. The way these people think is amazing...and eye opening. A little background - Naser is a teachers assistant (I can only guess his "boss" is an Imam). He is scholarly, knows his history but his English is a bit rough to follow. In my last email...

TERRORIST-INFESTED RAMADI in the wild west of Iraq is the meanest place in the country, "the graveyard of the Americans" as graffiti around town boast. When military public affairs asked where I wanted to be embedded, I told them, "the redder, the better" (red means hostile). So they packed me off to eastern Ramadi with the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). ---snip--- To most of the media, Baghdad is where Iraq begins and ends. So naturally, they think Baghdad is the most dangerous part of the country. Wrong. "The sheer scale of violence in Ramadi...

Collier County sheriff's deputies spotted the refugees as they were being dropped into the water on the north side of the Jolley Bridge. There were 20 of them, mostly men, but also a pregnant woman and a 1-year-old boy. They had left the Cuban province of Pinar del Rio on Sunday, and at about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, state and federal agents intercepted the two fairly new motor boats that brought them. The refugees fled Cuba on two nearly identical 26-foot boats, one of which had an altered hull number, said Lt. David Johnson of the Sheriff's Office. Human smugglers often...

Hurricane Wilma damaged their roof and like so many victims of the storm, one South Florida couple had trouble finding a roofer because of a shortage of materials and workers. John and Kathleen Jurewicz finally did get contractor, but it has been anything but smooth sailing. The couple hired McClung contractors to do the work. With their insurance money, the couple paid the company nearly $14,000 for the roofing materials which was suppose to be turned over to ABC supply company. Four months later the supplies still sit in their driveway and the work on the roof was never completed....

Anti-Islam debaters misuse the Noble Verse 4:34 and wrongly take it as a point against Islam. In this verse Allah Almighty has allowed men to slightly beat their wives in certain situations to stop them if they crossed God's limits regarding the husband's rights, but never allowed harsh beating, as how we see men beating their wives nowadays. Allah said in Qur’an: "Men [as husbands] are responsible for their women because God has made the one superior to the other [in different spheres] and because they spend of their wealth. Therefore, righteous women are obedient [to their husbands] and guard...
