  • FReeper needs help with advice on job search approach. (Vanity)

    08/16/2010 11:29:37 AM PDT · by erod · 46 replies
Hello FReepers! I’m writing this post because like many I’m struggling to get a job and I need some help. I’m about to embark on my job search again (I took a three-month-hiatus to work a part-time marketing job to get some more experience) and I want to know if any of you had luck with a specific type of job searching technique. Maybe you knocked on doors, networked, or buried yourself daily in classifieds? I want to know what techniques worked for you or what techniques didn’t work for you. I’ll try to make this short, but here is...
  • Jesse Jackson compares Cavs owner to a slave master.

The Chicago Tribune ^ | 7/11/2010 | Tribune News Services
esse Jackson criticized Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert on Sunday, saying Gilbert sees LeBron James as a "runaway slave" and that the owner's comments after the free-agent forward decided to join the Miami Heat put the player in danger. Shortly after James announced his decision last week, Gilbert fired off an incendiary letter to Cleveland's fans, ripping the 25-year-old and promising to deliver a title before James wins one. He called James' decision "cowardly" and later told The Associated Press he believes James quit during a handful of Cavaliers playoff games. "He has gotten a free pass," Gilbert told the AP...
  • Obama Watches Sox Game in Washington

    06/18/2010 8:20:53 PM PDT · by erod · 19 replies · 487+ views
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama ventured from the White House for some Friday night baseball as his hometown Chicago White Sox took on the Washington Nationals and their new star pitcher, Stephen Strasburg. Obama made a surprise trip to the Nationals' stadium in Southeast D.C. to kick off Father's Day weekend and watch Strasburg, a sensation in Washington and the world of sports, make his third career start. The president, daughters Sasha and Malia and brother-in-law Conrad Ng arrived at the stadium with an entourage that included White House senior adviser David Axelrod. Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf was also spotted...
  • FReeper needs help on how to get permission to display book images in newsletter.

    06/08/2010 11:28:19 AM PDT · by erod · 12 replies · 32+ views
Hi FRiends, My boss and I are writing a newsletter and one of the features of the newsletter is a book review section. I thought it would be cool if we could use the book cover images for a graphic, but my boss said that may be copyright infringement. From doing research I am comming to the conclusion that he is probably right, but does anyone know how I can go get the permission to use these images in a newsletter? Any help would be awesome, Thanks, -Eric
  • FReeper needs advice on which imported Scotches and Whiskies are the best?

    05/20/2010 1:52:56 PM PDT · by erod · 89 replies · 1,263+ views
Hi Friends, I am a Scotch and Whiskey novice for the most part. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy Jack Daniels and Johnny Walker, but I’m limited in my knowledge of these two great liquors. The other day I realized that if the euro continues its fall and the dollar strengthens I will be able to buy more imported booze at cheaper prices (I know what you’re thinking, thanks Captain Obvious). So if this is the case (and hopefully it is) what would FReepers recommend as good imported liquor particularly in the Scotch and Whiskey categories? Best, -Erod
  • Poll: Only 39% would vote for Obama again

    05/07/2010 7:25:32 AM PDT · by erod · 29 replies · 859+ views
Voters have lost faith in Obama to craft solutions to the country's economic challenges. Just 39% say they trust Obama more than GOPers in Congress, while 32% say they believe the GOP has the right ideas. That 7-point gap is down from a 29-point Obama advantage in the April '09 poll. Only 39% of voters said they would vote to re-elect Pres. Obama if the election were held today, while 50% say they would vote for someone else. A quarter of voters would definitely vote to re-elect Obama, while 37% would definitely vote for someone else.
  • Spurs wanted to wear "Los Spurs" jerseys tonight in Game 2 to support illegal immigration

he frustration with the federal government's failure to deal with the issue of illegal immigration resulted in passage of a flawed state law. However intended, the result of passing this law is that our basic principles of equal rights and protection under the law are being called into questions, and Arizona's already struggling economy will suffer even further setbacks at a time when the state can ill-afford them." The NBA Players Association is onboard, as is San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who said they would play as "Los Spurs" but couldn't get custom road jerseys made by tonight's Cinco...
  • Abe Lincoln was a dictator??? (Need Help combating loony argument)

    04/19/2010 8:18:35 AM PDT · by erod · 1,793 replies · 14,616+ views
Hi FRiends, I have two brothers who I love very much, they’re young and libertarian Ron Paul supporters, sigh. We get along and I’m hoping that one day they’ll come back to conservatism, but they have bought into a theory that I don’t think makes much sense: Abe Lincoln was a dictator. There are many websites dedicated to this nonsense you can Google "Abe Lincoln dictator" and get some weird stuff, if you want to check it out. I need your help in busting this myth are there any books I can read on this subject to dispel this stuff?...
  • Request for advice from Freepers that moved to Texas, fellow FReeper considering it.

    02/09/2010 1:10:32 PM PST · by erod · 202 replies · 2,336+ views
Hi everyone, I was wondering if you could give a fellow conservative some advice on moving to Texas. I am currently living in Chicago, and I am fed up with the taxes, cold weather, Democratic culture and bad economy here. I am seriously considering a move to Texas, I am fairly young, 26, and I am almost done with my degree in marketing, although I currently posses a B.A. in journalism. I think Texas sounds really cool and I just wanted to get advice from fellow FReepers who have either made the move from other states to Texas or FReepers...
