Gov. Newsom calls special session to address high gas prices

Governor Gavin Newsom called lawmakers into a special session Saturday to address spikes in gasoline prices.

The move follows pushback Newsom received on a request to approve a series of bills that would cut energy costs for Californians and require petroleum refiners to maintain a stable inventory.

Across the nation, Californians pay the highest rates for gas at an average of $4.64 a gallon for regular unleaded, compared to the national average of $3.33, according to AAA.

Electricity bills in the state have also nearly doubled in the last decade and are expected to keep outpacing inflation through 2027 as California races to transition away from fossil fuel.

Saturday’s move marks the second time Newsom has called a special session focused on tackling the oil industry. In 2022, he called a special session to penalize oil companies for excessive profits from gasoline price spikes.

Although the order requires the special session to begin Saturday, it’s unclear when the actual hearings will begin.

Yes, because government-mandated price controls have such a great history of working out. Newsom will drive all of the gas producers out of state, and gas prices will go up even more. And, of course, this idiot doesn't even think of reducing the insane environmental laws and California's maze of taxes which force gas prices so high in CA.

Idiots and socialists never learned even basic economic principles, so of course they'll sit around clapping for Newsom's stupid ideas like trained seals.

Things Newsom doesn't have the balls to say is a ton of oil refiners have left the state, there is no oil pipeline into California, and that California is selling a lot of its oil overseas. All of which are contributing to higher prices.

However, all he will talk about is gouging oil companies.

"The move follows pushback Newsom received on a request to approve a series of bills that would cut energy costs for Californians and require petroleum refiners to maintain a stable inventory."

Maintaining a larger inventory should raise California energy prices, not cut them!

Democrats created high gas prices in California, where real estate racketeering is king. Hence, they're trying to push out the big refiners, particularly Chevron in Richmond and Martinez long occupying pricey ground in the Bay Area.

Chevron has been here for 120 years. The writing is on the wall. They've already moved their headquarters. This State will have zero fuel storage capability if these eco-creeps get their way and there's nothing to stop them.

People (voters) in California see no problem.

They keep voting for Newsome and legislators who made life so expensive in California.

Newsome should be pleased and forger about any special sessions. He’s doing the people’s work, and is meeting their desires.
