Rotsa ruck, Jemian!
Here’s my story with the IRS... I E-filed 6/14/21 (We in OK got an automatic extension until 6/15 because of the paralyzing winter weather we had).
Until two days ago, I kept getting a response on the IRS2Go app that my return was still being processed. Then the message said my refund had been recalculated downward by $600, with four possible explanations, only one of which possibly could have applied, and that I’d get a letter dated 9/27 explaining in more detail.
So, I checked my credit union balance yesterday to see if the revised refund had been electronically deposited and found that the IRS had made THIRTY-SEVEN deposits to my account yesterday, totaling over $25,000.00!! My CU confirmed that they had all been made in my name, and advised me to contact the government to resolve things.
I tried several numbers, and they all said that, due to high call volumes, I should try back at a later date. I have no doubt that that the high volumes are directly connected to the sheer incompetence like what I’m reading about in this thread, and what I’m experiencing right now. Tomorrow, I’ll call the local IRS office, and if that looks like another futile exercise, I too will be calling my congresswoman’s office and perhaps the IRS advocate, too.
The irony is that I just spent weeks beating my head against the wall with the SSA before finally getting an issue resolved, and now I get to re-enter the byzantine nether world of bureaucratic opacity to resolve an issue caused by others’ ignorance and negligence. Fun times.
