and even if New Yorkers did come together, they may not have done so in a positive fashion, coming together in fear and out of weakness, rather than strength and resolve.
Pick a fight...that's interesting..Maybe you should explain what you mean by this then. All i did was take offense to your comment of NYers coming together in weakness and not strength. And what do you think Rudy did to make us come together? He did his job. It was the people of NY who stood on lines at blood banks without the mayor telling them to do so. It was all those lines when volunteers were called for that went to ground zero and other volunteer sights. It was firemen and police officers from neighboring boros and states went down to ground zero to help. The mayor, got his people together, the people he was in charge of and lead(s) them/us through this. The title of Mayor does not make a city..The people of that city makes the city. We felt responsible for comforting our own.Seems to me, you're the one that wants to pick a fight with a "someone who has been a member for less than 24 hours"!!! Your disparaging remarks to me are uncalled for..but know what???That's my opinion.

As to the first part of your post.I'm gonna take the high road and not respond because to me it doesn't make any sense...sheesh...what part of my post about Rudy did you not understand....I did not/do not like him as Mayor...I do however appreciate and commend him for the job that he has done during this crisis. I don't believe that he has brought the city of NY together...I believe the people of NY brought themselves together. He did/is doing his job as Mayor of NYC at a time where his dictatorial and leadership skills are needed. I don't believe I ever stated what I believe the his motives for staying on were, i just stated that he should not be allowed to override the law and i still believe that. The fact that he is still the mayor is not relevant. At this point, I'm glad he's mayor..I believe I agreed with that one point on a previous post...AGAIN...He shouldn't be allowed to override the law because he may think that it's in the city's best interest to do so. Now as to you last sentence of practicing what I preach; I don't have a problem with you responding to my post nor responding to mine. It doesn't bother me that someone has a difference of opinion in the way that we as society view things...

i'm not sure where the anomosity is coming from My opinion of Rudy, is just that, as yours is yours. What i didn't agree with in your post was your analogy of NYer's coming together possibly in a negative manner. As a NYer and watching a symbol of our city fall to dust along with all those people, i took offense to your comments. As far as voting, my personal choice was my personal choice. But i will answer you.. Yes, I voted for Clinton, the first time around, No, I didn't vote for him the second time. No, I didn't vote for Hillary or Schumer and as a resident of the Bronx..I will not and did not vote for Freddie. Whether you like it or not does not matter to me in the least. again, if you don't like what i have to say..Don't read it...just disagree and move on.And lastly, DO YOU KNOW TAWANA BRAWLEY???? TOPREAD, thank your for welcoming me aboard. STARFAN, I think you should go back and read my post...I stated that the mayor had stated that he wanted to stay on as mayor during this crisis. Whether he changed his statement after the fact and after getting a negative reaction is kind of irrelevant. such as the thread about the superbowl coming to ny, someone stated that it was a knee-jerk reaction because of everything that has happened here. If you were able to vote for him in the upcoming election, would you have the same "knee-jerk reaction" because you think he's done a fine job during this disaster???? And I'm not sure I understand your points about his personal life. I have no problem with him being an advisor. I have a problem with him being mayor after his term is up as he wanted to do initially.

For someone who has been a member of the Free Republic for less than 24 hours, you sure have a lot to say. Most of us with any brains will lurk around here for several weeks or even months before posting and then, when we do post, we will try to choose our words very carefully so as not to insult or personally attack our fellow Freepers. And while I certainly respect your right to express your opinion, perhaps you should choose another forum to expree it
You must explain this to me and point out to me where I insulted anyone or attack anyone. I merely stated two opinions as to two statements you made regarding New Yorkers. (I don't know where you're from, and you don't give your fellow man enough credit) If you think that is insulting or personally attacking someone, well then... My post seems to talk about the topic in which your post was related, NY'ers and Rudy. As far as being a member and how long i've been here. Yes, i decided to become a member less than twenty four hours ago, however, you don't know how long i've been lurking, so as I certainly respect your right to your opinion to anything that I say, maybe you should express it elsewhere or don't respond. I thought the definition of a forum was a place where people can come together to discuss, disagree, agree..etc. A place to agree to disagree. I have a saying that i like to tell people who dont like what i right..."Don't Read IT"!!!!

Not necessarily, and even if New Yorkers did come together, they may not have done so in a positive fashion, coming together in fear and out of weakness, rather than strength and resolve

I don't know where you come from, but your analogy of New Yorkers in time of a crisis of this magnitude is way off base. We are not weak, we have shown our strength in these times, where we have lost over 5,000 people to these murderous cowards. While there were some people trying to get away with stupidness, the majority of reports of those crimes were not reported in NYC. People beating on people of middle eastern descent, etc.
And without leadership, every large, diverse group that comes together will eventually fragment and fall apart.

You obviously don't get your fellow man enough credit. Why not just lump us all in that same category of the people who did this.
That's where Rudy G shines the most. He is a leader, not a follower. He's willing to make and carry out executive decisions that are best for the group as a whole, regardless of the impact upon any particular member of the group. He has lead by example, walking among the dead and wounded, while remaining cool, calm, and collected despite the danger.

If you can give our mayor credit, why not the people of New York, who recognized that not only did we lose people, human beings, normal people, who have normal lives, but we also lost our state treasures. The NYPD and FDNY, those men and women who risked their lives everyday, not just September 11th, but everyday to save other lives. So yes, the Mayor should be commended, commended for doing his job. For making sure that the people of NY stay calm and not outrage us as he has done in the past with his dictorial ways.
He has proven himself worthy of our trust over and over again.

Has he? As a minority and an advocate living and breathing in the State of New York, I find that he has not proven himself worthy of my trust, he has just done his job. Here's what I commend him for. I commend him for putting those tired old dictatorship traits on the back burner in light of these events. I commend him for not making this a "I AM MAYOR, HEAR ME ROAR" type. I commend him for being sensitive to the needs of New Yorkers and not spouting that other garbage that he usually does. I commend him for trying his hardest at his press conferences to be sensitive to the families of the dead and/or missing. I do not just commend him for doing the job that he is doing. That is his job. I commend those characteristics that he has shown since September 11th, that he has not shown while he has been in office. Before i end this, one last thing. Our fearless mayor wants to extend terms limits to allow himself to stay mayor after Dec. 31. Question, why can't he continue on in an advisory position. Does he have to be in the position of power to continue to do the job that he is doing???? Answer: BECAUSE HE IS A DICTATOR AND WANTS CONTROL!!!!
