  • It wasn't his child, but court says he must pay

Calling this "a family" after the divorce, and argueing how damaging it would be to the child for this guy to cut out (when the real damage has already been done by the divorce)...is sophistry.

The family bond is the foundation of child raising. Not the individual people who make up the family. The divorce broke that bond. The guy is now no more than somebody who makes the kid feel good. Any man can do that. The damage to this kids was done at the divorce, the rest is just sophistry.

I believe that having a parent die in a loving family is less damaging to a child than a divorce. This whole argumen is sickening.

  • Viewpoint: Many Muslims 'do' condemn terrorism

Leave it to a journalist to think that condemning something is the same as acting to stop it.

I'm sorry modern journalists. But words no longer mean squat to me. Actions do. Until I see the muslim community take steps to stop these acts, I will consider them complicit in them.

I always get a kick out of people laughing this off, thinking it's all nonsense. .... It will be interesting to see how so called "modern" man reacts prior to impact, and after.

They can't even predict the path of a hurricane 24 hours in advance.

As far as how people will react should it come to fruition...the good will help their fellow man to the best of their ability, the bad will take advantage of other's misfortune. Not too tough to figure out. Just look at Katrina for a microcosm of what will happen in any catastrophe.

Now I'm going to go worry about something really important...is my elderly neighbor's sidewalk shoveled yet.

I thought we were going to be obliterated by a huge cloud of anti-matter in 2014???? I swear, I read it somewhere on FR a couple months ago. Man it's tough to plan for the end of the world when nobody can even tell us when it is.

Churches, to the best of my knowledge, do not accept federal funding for their operating expenses. Woe to the first church that does. This case illustrates why--in order to be free--we must keep the federal government out of as many of our institutions as possible.

Sadly, through the levying of taxes, or the exemption there from, institutions can be controlled almost as easily as by providing or witholding direct funding. Either way, you are adding or removing monies based upon what is deemed acceptible behavior by those who control the money.

Ask a liberal and they will tell you that being tax exempt is the same as accepting federal funds. That is how they are going after churches. By attempting to nulify their tax exempt status should they refuse to accept homosexuality or any other lifestyle. Not to mention the fact that they believe giving tax exempt status to a church violates the supposed "separation of church and state" portion of the constitution.

Let's see now...what would you want them to do if you were the one with the shotgun to your head...

Ummm, I certainly wouldn't want them to shoot me. :)

This seems to be a trend... :(

Last time it was a child.

It seems that modern police training is teaching cops that their own protection is more important than the hostages in these situations. That is unacceptable to me.

I lose my faith in the modern police force more and more each day.

Right. Just like Campaign Finance Reform. Think up some new lies. That one doesn't work anymore.,

    I wrote...

"However, if he is serious. Then I have major problems with it. "

You conveniently left that sentence out when you wrote your reply accusing me of lying.

As far as I'm concerned, states rights are the most important concept behind the constitution. If the President is in fact going to try to take over federal control of the states without their permission in the event of an "emergency". I will fight it tooth and nail.

Anyway, in the future I suggest you don't distort what a person posts by conveniently leaving out part of the post. That, to me, seems dishonest.

Fellow Freepers. I think we are seeing more srtategery in action. This is a direct counter-punch to the media attack on the President's response to Katrina. This move highlights the way the current laws work and will put the liberals in a catch-22. They would love to have more power, but supporting this move lets him off the hook. Opposing this plan shows they really DIDN'T want to fix the problem, just attack Bush. This move parries both lines of attack.

I tend to agree with this. I think the President is calling the liberals bluff. They screamed he didn't act fast enough, he is threatening them with a federal takeover just to put them in a spot from which they can't logically escape. They will look like fools trying to weasle out of this, but they will have to do it because they will not give up this much power to the president. Brilliant.

However, if he is serious. Then I have major problems with it.

I feel for the people fleeing Rita. Obviously they wish it was under different circumstances, but they have stopped in a beautiful little city.

I lived there and worked in the local HEB Bakery before they built the store where it is now. I use to fish in the Guadalupe River and hunt on a ranch out in Ingram. God Bless the people fleeing Rita, and the city of Kerrville. I still get misty about the place as I sit here in this foresaken state (Illinois).

I think that not only will Judge Robert's decisions have an impact on the court in and of themselves. His arguments will be so persuasive as to convince the wishy washy justices to side with him.

"Well, why not? Why try to postpone biblical prophecy, if that's what you believe?"

I know that some day you will die. If you come to me injured tomorrow and I let you die, claiming you are going to die anyway, have I done something wrong? The Amish are the barometers of true liberty in this country.

    "Orwell was a prophet."

Um, I think something like this was predicted by a prophet long before Orwell.
