  • American RTL Action Sit-in Protest at Dobson HQ [Focus on the Family]

Is it more divisive to the pro-life movement, and more likely to create bad press, if certain groups criticize other groups, or if a “leader” of the pro-life movement decides it’s okay to support a man for president who is on record as late as 2005 wanting taxpayer funding for some abortions? What about performing bizarre research experiments on captive and helpless human beings until they die? Sure, I mean embryonic stem cell research, but it sounded like Nazi Germany, didn’t it?

If Dobson is willing to endorse a man who will kill just several thousand babies against the guy who wants to kill hundreds of thousands, does that make it a “moral” choice? Or is it only based on fear? Would God support his “lesser of evils” argument? Or would God rebuke him for supporting either of two evils and not standing up for the God-given Right to Life?

Colorado Right to Life IS a team player — just not the same team as National Right to Life or the establishment Republican Party (the “pro-life with exceptions” crowd). American Right to Life is the largest US pro-life organization and Human Life International is the largest worldwide pro-life organization, and both of them are in an alliance with Colorado Right to Life and American Right to Life (all 3 helped found ARTL, along with OSA).

Over the last two years, a large proportion of the pro-life movement has shifted away from regulating child killing toward Personhood. There are 12 states that I’m aware of working on Personhood Initiatives just like Colorado. That would have been unheard of just a few years ago.

National Right to Life claims they’re the “leader” of the pro-life movement because they’ve gotten all these “pro-life” justices. But ARTL has issued a challenge to National Right to Life — they will provide a $10,000 reward if NRTL can point to even one current Supreme Court justice who believes people have a right to life from conception. This is simply calling their bluff, because they know full well there are no such justices. These Republican justices have been trained to support Roe v. Wade (all but Scalia and Thomas do!) and to believe that abortion is okay in some (many) circumstances.

Colorado Right to Life is not a fringe group. They’ve got lots of followers, and their support is growing! The whole pro-life movement is changing, and the Republicans had better catch up, or else they’ll be left behind.

Before long, National Right to Life may be considered irrelevant unless they, too, adopt the Personhood mantle.

I know all those polling figures. And what’s more, I understand them.

You don’t understand me — maybe only 15% of Americans “understand” the real meaning of pro-life. I accept that.

But the other 85% of Americans are NEVER going to understand what a “right to life” really means if we don’t start telling them outright — Abortion Is Always Wrong!

Americans think they have to be moderate on every position. If one guys says one thing, another says a different thing, the average American thinks it’s “right” to be in between them. You sure don’t want to be on either “extreme”.

But if I think Adolf Hitler was evil, am I “extreme”? If I oppose slavery in all cases, am I “extreme”?

No one in American is for slavery in any circumstance, because finally, after much teaching, people came to understand that a black man is a PERSON, and that it’s ALWAYS wrong to enslave a person.

Americans are confused about the “right to life” — they don’t understand it — because pro-life leaders like National Right to Life keep telling people, over and over again, that some abortions are worse than others. Like killing one innocent person is not as bad as killing another innocent person. How can anyone understand personhood if our pro-life leaders keep denying it by the positions they take?

If we don’t make the effort to set the standard, no one will ever come to agree with our position.

Abortion Is Always Wrong! Period. I don’t care what 85% of Americans think.

Most pro-lifers who understand the abortion issues are against abortion without exception. Only those who understand the issue peripherally, but who really haven’t thought much about it, believe a distinction should be made.

If a baby has a “right to life”, then what about that baby’s circumstances would change that?

A baby born of a rape has just as much a right to life as any other baby.

Besides, 70% of women pregnant by rape decide to keep their baby. Most of the rest wish they had.

Personhood is the answer. Personhood is the ONLY answer. No one says there should be “exceptions” to anti-slavery laws because slavery is wrong in every circumstance. So is abortion.

ARTL is trying to achieve goals, a step at a time. Romney is a fake pro-lifer who many pro-lifers think is for real. He’s not. And he’s been the front-runner up to now (may still be, as of next week). Naturally, Romney is the target since attacks against the other candidates wouldn’t produce the same effect. Everybody knows Giuliani, Clinton, Obama, etc. are pro-abortion. Pro-lifers dont’ know this about Romney, so they’re spreading the word.

Later, they may go after other candidates, holding their feet to the fire. Right now, they’re trying to keep principled pro-lifers from making a HUGE mistake.

In an ABC interview, Steve Curtis said that he doesn’t like any of the front runners, specifically mentioning Huckabee, who’s a liberal. He did say he would prefer Alan Keyes (who is still running). That’s not why they’re running these ads.

NRTL has been suborned by the GOP. The RNC pays up to $500,000 a year to National Right to Life, to buy their loyalty, so they’ll do things to benefit the party.

NRTL’s “big” accomplishment of the last 15 years? Ending abortion in a state? No. Encouraging Personhood Amendments? No! (they’ve actively opposed Human Life Amendments at the federal and state level) Ending Partial Birth Abortion? No — the PBA Ban was a paper tiger meant to give cover to pro-choice Republicans who could claim to “support the right to choose, but I’m for the PBA Ban”.

NRTL, the GOP, Jay Sekulow, etc. all say the PBA Ban is a great victory, because for 15 years they’ve been selling that snake oil, and they have to act like it’s a victory or they’ll be shown for what they are. In reality, it doesn’t save a single life, it’s still possible under the carefully-written GOP law to deliver a baby half-way and suck its brains out, the PBA ruling recommends injection abortions as a good alternative too. The PBA Ban Ruling is more “pro-abortion-rights” than Roe v. Wade was, and yet the GOP claims it as a victory so they can win elections on it.

The GOP has sold out to the left, and NRTL has sold out to the GOP — they all support the same things, none of it related to the Right to Life.

American Right to Life is the principled pro-life organization that will take the place of NRTL as a real fighter for the Right to Life.

CharlesWayneCT, seems like Romney is surely feeding you talking points, like the detailed excuses about the health plan, which I don’t believe for a minute.

The whole point on Romney is he “became pro-life” in 2004, and then went back on his word in 2005 and 2006! He’s only “pro-life” because he’s running for President.

Anyone who doubts the statements in the press release about how Romney’s “conversion” in 2004 was followed by several pro-abortion statements and actions, needs to go check those charges out. The detailed evidence is at the ARTL website — http://artlaction.com/release/20080116/right-life-leaders-battle-over-romney

Steve Curtis is a man of principle. As GOP chair in Colorado, refused to endorse the 1998 candidate for Governor (Bill Owens) because he believed he was a fake conservative, and didn’t believe his pro-life convictions (just like Romney). As Governor, Owens had a relatively conservative record, but showed his true colors as a tax-spend liberal as a lame duck (the Wall Street Journal had to “un-endorse” him for President, his switcheroo was so dramatic!).

And ARTL isn’t a fringe group. Some of the largest pro-life organizations in America are allied with them (though perhaps not as vocal against Romney) — American Life League, Operation Save America (formerly Operation Rescue), Human Life International, B1 Bob Dornan (mentioned by someone as a pro-life stalwart), etc. They’re actively challenging National Right to Life because NRTL supports pro-abortion candidates, so long as they’re Republicans (even against pro-life opponents!).

National Right to Life is also OPPOSED to establishing Personhood in law (the Human Life Amendement). That means they don’t believe in the RIGHT TO LIFE! Pro-lifers are fed up with them.
