I don't know if you had the time to look over the previous discussion; my main point was, whatever your view of the causes of the 'civil war', the main side effect was the near destruction of state's rights. Lyndon Johnson, a 'true' southerner, destroyed Black American cohesion and family values by instituting the welfare state and the role of 'Massa Uncle Sam' - an act of inhumanity in my view. That, plus the federal income tax, established the supreme source of power as the federal govt.

We are on the verge of another, a real civil war, to regain states' rights... states' rights and perhaps the leading issue of our time: the sovereignty of the individual!

You clarified many points that I left implied. As you affirm, the industrial revolution was changing Western Civilization sweepingly... As for Cuba, Yankee colonialization somewhat preserved slavery in the form of super cheap labor (sugar plantations), but that's another story.

In the early 50s, at about age 12, I moved from Virginia to a small town in Florida long infamous for racism and a race war. I was beaten up in the town square in front of the fire station, plenty of onlookers, as a ' n----er lover'. Some years later I went to college in Boston where I was treated a bit as the opposite. I have lived both sides of that dustup and I paid my dues.

I choose to avoid the 'arguments' and try to stick to the objective truths - as much as possible.

Strong evidence of the growing threat of the 'Deep State' and the dissolution of the two party system. The 2020 election was fabricated to legalize the 'replacement' of our Constitutional Republic. We are fighting that battle now. The Dems have possibly minimized opposition by opening our borders to millions of non-Americans.

Like 1861, the future of the Republic is on the line.😬

It comes down to 'independence' and 'defending slavery'. Independence brings up the subject of states' rights, which Lincoln pretty much obliterated; the South became a plundered war zone for decades.

Slavery almost certainly would have declined over the next half a century anyway; historically that institution was destined to minimalize.

Who can say what the outcome would have been if Lincoln had not decided his principles merited spending the lives of tens of thousands of people. Depending on ones POV, Lincoln was either a stalwart or a monster. As I say, historians write the text of any story.

Firing on Fort Sumter in 1861 didn't help that goal...

Of course, by definition, it wasn't a 'civil war'; historians politicize such labels. Lincoln was determined to 'preserve the Union' at any cost. A side effect of that decision has been dangerous weakening of state's rights, being more strongly felt today as D.C. becomes more and more a dictatorship❗

Mark Levin has rightly pointed out that the Democrat Party has hated the Republic from the very beginning. That political party should have been outlawed in 1865. Instead they have continued their Ku Klux Klan anti-republic fight ever since, until Lyndon Johnson discovered a way to ensnare black Americans into accepting slavery with meager govt handouts... just look at their 'Blue' cities.

Now the 'Rat Party is on the verge of accomplishing everything it has wanted since the 1780s; they have just broadened their slavery target to the whole population and substituted the heavy hand of 'law enforcement' for the simple hand whip.

Baron de Montesquieu was correct; the 'corruption' must be removed. Force did not accomplish the task in 1861-1865. The people will have to come to realize the inherent evil encapsulated in the Democrat Party and decide to utterly reject it or this drama will be repeated again ... and again!

Perhaps NOT such a 'fine school'❓ They not only cannot spell 'Palestine' (a name that has been around since Roman times), but really have NO CLUE what they are fighting for. I read recently that in one of these demonstrations the grunts were shouting "infitada" - in place of "intifada", Arabic "rebellion, uprising". Likewise I have seen pictures of bare shouldered women bowing on the floor accepting Islam; wow are they in for a shock, especially if forced to wear a full covering burqa❗

No telling what the colleges teach any longer!❓

The days of the Republican Party are grinding to their end. Like the indecisive do nothing Whigs, they are faced with a determined autocratic political opposition - the Democrat Party. The 'Rat Party fought to preserve slavery while the Whigs fiddled. Abe Lincoln led more decisive Whigs into the Republican Party.

Now a decisive leader, Donald Trump, will have to try to forge a powerful enough political party that can stand up to the same aggressive Democrat Party - who is on the verge of finally accomplishing everything that they wanted and fought for in 1861-1865. Only now they would enslave the whole population - with them as the plantation owners.

Odd how history repeats itself.

😌 In fairness, repeal of an amendment is a long laborious process, work and time intensive. It happened fairly easily concerning the prohibition of alcohol to drink. 🤷 High public motivation❗

OTOH, FDR achieved overriding an amendment quite easily... I am not sure that I really know how... I guess that I know why.

But if I were POTUS I would be faced with the decision. I suppose that I could do like Pontius Pilate and turn the decision over to others and wash my hands of it. ...but, like Pilate, it would still be under my authority. :^(
