LOS ANGELES -- A judge who threatened deportation to Mexico for an illegal immigrant seeking a restraining order against her husband has been dropped from the roster of part-time judges used by the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Judge Pro Tem Bruce R. Fink, a family law attorney from Orange, was removed from the list of about 1,200 attorneys who are used as substitute judges for the county, court spokesman Allan Parachini said Friday. "A lot of people run from controversy," Fink said. "It doesn't bother me. Remember, I was doing this as a volunteer."

BETHESDA, Md. - Since the Iraq war began in 2003, it has become an annual pre- Christmas rite for President Bush to personally comfort wounded soldiers. He continued that tradition Wednesday, going bed-to-bed in an intensive care unit and handing out Purple Hearts to the valiant. Bush was visiting with Marines wounded in Iraq and the medical staff treating them at the National Naval Medical Center here. Before going behind closed doors to spend about two hours with servicemen and women, Bush spoke briefly to medical care givers and troops able to leave their rooms.

Governor: New Orleans Needs to Be Evacuated Tuesday, August 30, 2005 BATON ROUGE, La. — With conditions in the hurricane-ravaged city of New Orleans rapidly deteriorating, Gov. Kathleen Blanco (search ) announced late Tuesday that people now huddled in the Superdome and other rescue centers need to be evacuated. "The situation is untenable," Blanco said during a news conference. "It's just heartbreaking."

Althought there was a small protest of his visit and 3 arrests of people crossing the barriers, his visit went very well. Directly after the Presidents address, I received a prerecorded message from the office of Elliot Spitzer, informing me that there is going to be a staged protest in Downtown Rochester, New York at 1:30pm and was 'encouraged' to join in protest against President Bush's Social Security inititive to 'privatize'...

Schiavo-like Woman in Recovery Miracle A severely brain-damaged Kansas woman who couldn't talk or feed herself after a car accident two years ago has inexplicably regained those abilities, confounding the predictions of doctors. Tracy Gaskill, 30, began speaking and swallowing about three weeks ago, family members and medical personnel told the Associated Press. Gaskill had suffered head trauma and internal injuries after her car rolled over on a highway in September 2002.

Britain Considers Denying Health Care Based on Age A British ministry is proposing to deny medical treatment to patients based on age – a move seen as the "ultimate end" for universal health care. A spokesperson for The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence said that "if there is a justifiable clinical reason to not provide a treatment for certain age groups, not just older people, that will be O.K., if this treatment would not work or could not be offered.

WASHINGTON — A senior CIA operative who handled sensitive informants in Iraq asserts that CIA managers asked him to falsify his reporting on weapons of mass destruction and retaliated against him after he refused. The operative, who remains under cover, claims in a lawsuit made public yesterday that a co-worker warned him in 2001 "that CIA management planned to 'get him' for his role in reporting intelligence contrary to official CIA dogma."

I've been having a problem lately when I log on to the internet. It seems that a program is being generated by something else on my computer, usually with numbers (example: 32415.exe), which opens a new webpage and then suddenly disappears. I have to do a 'CTRL-ALT-DEL' and 'end' the program. Then I go into /Windows/System subdirectory and delete it. The problem is, I've run Ad-Aware and spybot and they just don't seem to find the program that generates these things. It happens nearly everytime I log on the internet. I'm sure it's a data mining program, but I just...
