(Monticello, Mo.)-Workers of Heartland Center made their way into the Lewis County Courthouse through the back door. They have not been before the judge since late last month when they were charged by the Lewis County Prosecutor of abusing 11 children in their care. The prosecutor claimed they performed abusive acts, like placing children in a manure pit chest deep as a form of punishment. (Monticello & Newark, Mo.)-Six workers at a Missouri youth center turned themselves into sheriff's authorities Thursday and now they face more than 30 counts of child abuse and child endangerment. The six employees are out on bail tonight, but the probe continues. The six employees of the Heartland Community Center, which owns property in Lewis, Knox and Shelby Counties are charged with abusing 11 children, some from right here in Southeast Iowa and Northeast Missouri.
