Vet This! Last night Mitt was on CSPAN addressing a group of about 20 to 30 people. What got my attention was when he said his dad was born in Mexico. I immediately flashed on Obama putting the fact his dad was born in Kenya on his web site. The commonality of these two events is the fact their respective political parties haven’t vetted them for Natural Born Citizen status even though that is one of the constitutional requirements for being President or Vice President. Also, it explains why any one who is supporting either of these two individuals for...

You can add House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the group of Democrats or Obama allies (John Podesta, Paul Volcker, Roget Altman) calling for a value-added tax. (I predicted all of this days ago.) Here is Pelosi (via The Hill): Pelosi, appearing on PBS’s “The Charlie Rose Show” asserted that “it’s fair to look at” the VAT as part of an overhaul of the nation’s tax code. “I would say, Put everything on the table and subject it to the scrutiny that it deserves,” Pelosi told Rose when asked if the VAT has any appeal to her. The VAT is a...

'We're going through a test' A week after tragedy, New Life Church’s Boyd asks parishioners to be honest with feelings By CARLYN RAY MITCHELL THE GAZETTE December 17, 2007 - 12:21AM Hands were raised once again in praise, but it was not any given Sunday at New Life Church. Nor should anyone have pretended it was, Senior Pastor Brady Boyd said a week after a gunman killed two young worshippers. Boyd said he was proud of the 7,000 to 7,500 attendees of Sunday’s two morning services who rallied against fears about returning to the site of last week’s rampage, where...

WASHINGTON (AFX) - The United States called on Nepal's embattled king to stay out of politics completely as Washington welcomed his pledge to restore the country's parliament. 'We believe that he should now hand power over to the parties and assume a ceremonial role in his countrys governance,' Adam Ereli, deputy State Department spokesman, said after King Gyanendra announced his latest move to end 19 days of violent street protests. Gyanendra, who took absolute power last year after sacking a government he declared corrupt and incapable of battling Maoist insurgents, agreed late yesterday to reinstate the parliament dissolved in 2002....

W A S H I N G T O N, Dec. 10 — The United States possibly could have prevented the Sept. 11 hijackings if intelligence agencies had reported to a single leader, with the resources to link scattered clues, a senator investigating the attacks says. Sen. Bob Graham, outgoing chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Monday that lawmakers hope to prevent future attacks by recommending creation of a national intelligence director, a Cabinet-level post that would oversee all U.S. intelligence operations. It is a principal recommendation of an inquiry into the attacks by the House and Senate intelligence...
  • Are We Ready for the Next Terrorist Attack?

SALT LAKE CITY (May 14, 2002 6:09 p.m. EDT) - Are we ready for the next terrorist attack? It doesn't look like it. In Afghanistan, the war against terrorism has been waged with brilliance. But in the American homeland, bureaucratic inertia and procrastination are hobbling preparations to meet a new terrorist assault. The likeliest attack would be one from cyberspace, according to experts who say those who wish the U.S. harm have the capacity to orchestrate it. Its potential targets are the U.S. air traffic system, the nation's financial network, or other critical operations whose computer systems are vulnerable to...

Some summit meeting: 54 conquer Everest By Michael Hirsley Tribune staff reporter Published May 17, 2002 It was far from lonely at the top of the world Thursday as a single-day record of 54 climbers reached the summit of Mt. Everest, the highest peak on Earth. Dozens of other adventurers, including 71-year-old Chicagoan Al Hanna, seeking to become the oldest climber to conquer Everest, were poised at other camps on the mountain on the Nepal-Tibet border. They hope to make it to the top before the official mountaineering season ends May 31. That is when climbers must return to base...

April 6, 2002 As a tactic, terrorism often achieves its goal It's a horrible truth: Terrorists frequently get what they want Stewart Bell National Post The recent wave of Palestinian suicide bombings and their apparent success at dramatically reshaping the conflict in the Middle East has led analysts to an inescapable but unsettling conclusion: Terrorism works. The events since Sept. 11 had left the opposite impression. Osama bin Laden gained only misery from his attacks. Al-Qaeda has been severely damaged and the Taliban regime that harboured it is gone. But the Palestinians have made terror work for them, a disturbing...

Al Qaeda terrorists target Iraqi Kurds William Safire The New York Times Tuesday, April 9, 2002. Sixty Islamic terrorists, trained in Afghanistan by Osama bin Laden, are holed up in the town of Biyara in northern Iraq, guests of Saddam Hussein. Their assignment is to infiltrate the no-flight zone and to kill the Kurdish leaders, who Saddam assumes will be allied with the United States in his overthrow. This is the same assignment that Al Qaeda performed for the Taliban last Sept. 9, when a terrorist suicide team murdered the most popular Afghan leader, Ahmed Massoud. That assassination was intended...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. intelligence reports indicate that the two most-wanted men in the American war on terrorism, al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, were still in Afghanistan, a U.S. official said on Saturday. Bin Laden was still believed to be in eastern Afghanistan, where relentless U.S. air strikes have pounded the Tora Bora region near Jalalabad to decimate al Qaeda forces hiding in mountain caves and tunnels, the official told Reuters on condition of anonymity. While Mullah Omar was believed to be in Afghanistan it was unclear whether he was still in the ...
