  • The Hypocrisy Of Congress´s Gold-Plated Health Care

Its sad that republican members of Congress aren’t out front on this issue. We just don’t have any depth of leadership.

I think y’all are hitting this all wrong. If your working at McDonald’s there is a reason. The biggest of which is, that’s the best u can do. You didn’t take advantage of a free education. While some may not like public schools it is the largest and most effective “welfare” program we have. If you didn’t take advantage of it and now find yourself wearing a hair net.... I have no sympathy for you.

  • Top 5 faith & culture stories: Should Christians vote for a Mormon?

I think everybody is missing the point when it comes to voting for a Mormon if you are a Christian. Mormon’s may claim to be Christians. It is certainly their right to do so. However, that does not mean that Christians (by that I mean people generally identified as Christians - i.e. protestants and catholics) have to accept them into the fold. I for one don’t believe that Mormons are Christians.
At this point I’m usually met with the “there is no religious test for public office” argument. That is correct. There is no constitutional religious requirement. Any Mormon has the right to run for president. However, as a voter I can have any “test” I want. Some people have the “abortion test” others the “defense test” and still others the “help the poor test.” None of these are constitutional requirements either.

I have the “Christian test.” The first thing I want to know about a candidate is he/she a Christian. If they are I move on to the other “tests” I have. If the answer is no I rule that candidate out and start looking for another candidate. The reason I have a “Christian test” is that when things are tough and big decisions are looming ahead. I want my president to get on his knees and pray. And when he prays I want to know there is someone on the other end listening. If they aren’t a Christian its my belief no one is there.

Many of you will deride me for this position. Thats fine. You are entitled to you opinion. But lets let history be our judge. For over 200 years we have been largely led by men who turned to Christ for guidance. As a result we have been the most prosperous nation ever. In recent years our leaders have fallen away from our Christian heritage. Look where were at now. Still great but definitely faltering. Now some of you want to help elect a man who while moral, decent and upstanding isn’t a Christian. Who will he turn to for guidance?

  • Bachmann, Cain won't say Romney is a Christian

The reason I will not vote for Romney is simple. He is not a Christian. Remember the Clinton commercial during the last campaign. Something about ... do you want obama taking that phone call at 2 in the morning? I thought that was pretty clever. However, I am more interested in what happens after that phone call. When the president drops to his knees to ask God for help is God listening. If the president is a Christian I believe so. If he is Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu or (gasp) Mormon I think not. Does this make Romney some kind of cult follower? I don’t believe so. Does this make him a bad person? Absolutely not. Most Mormon’s I’ve met have been decent and fine people. I’m like many evangelicals across this country. The first thing I want to know about any candidate for president is is he/she a Christian. After that question is answered then we move to policy.

  • Why Socialism Failed

I’m a public school teacher. I had my class write an essay on whether or not they believed everyone had a right to health care. The class overwhelming believed their was a human right to health care.
I then took their next test grade and averaged it out. I also took points off of their tests and gave them to other classes. You know we got to redistribute those points. Of course, the grades were low.
We then talked about health care costs. How someone is paying for that “free” health care. The only way to pay for it is to redistribute wealth.
At this point I passed out their tests. I told them that since they were for socialized health care, they would certainly be for a socialized grading system.
Their was an uproar among the students. They finally saw inherent problem with socialism. Needless to say they all decided to stick with our merit based grading.
The really neat thing about all of this, beside the fact that it’s true, is that my principal was in the room doing my evaluation during this lesson. I’m pleased to say that my evaluation was the best I’ve ever had.

The egomaniac view is irrelevant. If your on tv and getting paid a million dollars plus your probably egotistical. That goes for all of them. It’s the message and the identity you try to portray. Hannity is almost always on message. But with the freedom concert gig he has tried to portray himself as a patriotic friend of the troops. Unless this lady has totally made up the tax returns then Hannity is a fraud.

The danger is that once something is introduced into the mainstream consciousness it’s only a matter of time until it has a foothold. It’s at that point where we usually start fighting. We need to recognize these things and start fighting sooner.

I thought exactly the same thing. This is what the Eco-nuts really want. I got a kick out of the cop who gets the other cop at the end for having a styrofoam cup. Reminded me a the stories you hear of kids being encouraged to rat out their parents in totalitarian countries.

I love everything except #4. If you bought your home using an adjustable rate mortgage or you bought a home that you really couldn’t afford you don’t deserve assistance. I’m sorry but I don’t want to bail out homeowners anymore than I want to bail out companies that can’t survive.

I’m like everybody else on here. Where are these mysterious posts. I for one don’t want to see censoring on debate on FR. It is perfectly ok to call a spade a spade. Its perfectly ok to say you don’t agree with the tenent of any religion. To try to limit discussion on this is just wrong. We don’t need to go politically correct here on FR.
Since no one else wants to say it I guess I will. I will not vote for Mitt Romney because he is a Mormon. Having said that I have found that most of the Mormons I have meet are really good people. On the whole they are more devout than most Christians I know. They practice what they preach and thats really admirable. But I’m sorry, Mormons are not Christians, and I’m one of those evangelicals that wants a Christian in the White House.
If this is considered an attack on Mormons then so be it. I just think it’s an honest opinion.

This is the most terrible thread I’ve ever read on FR. There is enough blame to go around for everyone. But to soley pin it on anyone is wrong. For you to imply that this girl would have committed suicide anyway it not only wrong its stupid. You have no idea whether she would have or not and two people you know doesn’t supply much in the way of evidence. The article does not imply that the internet caused her suicide and no one on this thread is blaming the internet either. Yes the girl was mentally ill but “Josh’s” behavior was a contributing factor in her suicide too. There is no doubt about that. There is just no law to prosecute them with

“Hate crimes” will be the banner under which Christianity will be crushed in the United States. For that reason, and several others, I categorically do not support and seek to over turn any and all “hate crime” related laws.

You couldn’t be more right. All hate crimes laws should be abolished.
