I don’t know where you got the idea I was advocating abolishing the Novus Ordo! Seems to me you are being just as judgmental as you accuse me of being.

You are fortunate to be able to “receive any sacrament” from a variety of Catholic Churches. You are wrong that any Catholic has that option.

I live in a Rural area. There is ONE parish within 50 miles of my home, with about 150 members, most over 75. Due to it being a small parish, the bishop has dumped on us an incompetent and abusive priest that his previous parish demanded the bishop remove.

These poor little old devout ladies here are traumatized by the vicious treatment from our priest. Yet get no response to their please to the diocese.

Try putting yourself in my shoes instead of criticizing me. I doubt you can imagine the suffering here, if you’re really a “NYer” - because you live in the center of the world with 100’s of options, and I am at the remote, deserted ends of the earth.

Now we know they are out of touch with reality. The Jesuit order, with the exception of maybe a dozen priests, is NOTHING BUT independent-minded AND left-leaning (pseudo)-intellectuals, not to mention active homosexuals.

I have a friend who has owned a home day care for about 17 years. She has 12 kids, ages 4-5, and tries to keep a fairly even balance of boys and girls. She does not allow toy guns, toy soldiers, squirt guns or such, due to some parent who always objects.

She says there is no use pretending that little boys don’t want to play “cops and robbers” or “cowboys and Indians”. It’s in their blood. No matter how she discourages it, boys will take a stick, a banana, even a girl’s doll, and “use” it as a gun. They never hurt one another or hit one another. They just love playing these sort of games. And it’s only the boys.

After all these years, she has given up trying to stop them since it seems harmless, and she no longer looks at it as some psychological problem of the child’s.

The “rad trads” are a tiny minority compared to the destructive force of the “progressives” or “CINO’s” (as sometimes called here).

While I agree that bashing the pope on his first day is over-reacting, keep in mind the position of the trads in the Church - when people are backed into a corner, they tend to get defensive.

These people have stayed true to the Church their whole lives thru constant turmoil and outright contradictions from their priests and bishops. Or if younger they have come to traditionalism thru conversion or discovery.

These are often the people living most faithfully according to Church teaching, are active in pro-life, and are rearing several children (often on one salary) that are the only hope for the Church’s future.

Yet they are often treated like freaks and weirdos, including by priests, even for something as simple as showing up at a Novos Ordo wearing a simple veil. I can see why after Benedict they are a bit wary of a Pope who won’t wear the red shoes! It’s a rash judgment by some, but hey, it’s understandable.

When Brogoglio rides the bus, does he notice the trads are still relegated to the back seat? If he sincerely cares about the “poor and marginalized” consider the spiritual poverty of those deprived of the Mass they love and wish to share with their children.

You’re in Oregon, be aware of the proposed law to (in essence) outlaw smoking. The law would classify cigarettes as a “controlled substance”. That means you cannot get them without a doctor’s prescription. I know, the irony! This is serious, in the legislature.

To pave the way to make it even easier to discriminate against smokers, a year or two past they made a law that anyone filling a prescription for any controlled substance, I mean legitimately rx’d by your medical doctor, the pharmacist reports you to the State and they are now keeping a database of all people who subscribe to Xanax or whatever. Cigs will be added to the list.

Yes, the govt, not just your pharmacy, will have your name, address, phone number, doctor, medical clinic and every single time you fulfill an Rx for cigs. If you exceed the 30-day renewal, I don’t know if State Troopers come out and arrest you or what...?

This seems to be to violate HIPPA, doctor-client privilege with your MD, and doctor-client privilege with your pharmacist... but I guess the needs of Big Brother overrule those notions.

Workerbee, it’s not worth jeopardizing your health. Turn off the TV for an hour and FR too. Take a walk, a shower, have a hot chocolate, take something relaxing, pet your cat or dog or bird if you have one, flip thru a catalog, etc,....don’t obsess.

In an hour, everything will likely be about the same. Even if you wait until tomorrow AM, it everything will be here on FR for you and the stats on Fox website.

Very good point, cbn. The problem with exit “polls” is they are completely unscientific, because you cannot get a truly random sample. At most it is a trend of the moment. It’s a survey not a poll, and while interesting, cannot determine a trajectory in any certain direction. Since most Americans do not understand what a poll, survery, random vs. haphazard sample, etc, these should not even be allowed to be broadcast. Even if the talked to only women at the exit, ALL women will not vote Obama, it’s just inaccurate, really.

No one is forced to pay for a service. There is no fee and the gas prices are the same as Washington and lower than California. As for lines, I’ve never had to wait, and yet I’ve been in California many times (my family is there and I’m from there) and have to wait in a SELF-serve station because that state, at least in the urban areas now has just too darn many people in it.

Also, either way you are “forced to pay without a choice” because there are almost no gas stations left that offer a choice. If you’re in California you MUST pump your own gas, you could be elderly, handicapped, etc, so what. There is no “full service option”. In Oregon you MUST let an employee of the gas station, or in one case I have here, even the owner of the station, pump it.

Either way you have no choice. At least one option is more helpful and more safe. If we had to “pay a fee” heck yes, I’d agree with you.

Astute observation. With the 2 dicasteries this year, it’s pretty clear he’s stacking the deck for the next conclave. At 85, the Holy Father is incredibly impressive, and no doubt his mind is still razor sharp. God bless him.

Good point about the lesser of two liberals. The difficulty is that a true conservative can no longer get elected in this now-socialist, welfare state, polygolt (not melting pot) country.

I don’t suppose Ronald Reagan could get elected today, partly due the the 24/7 institutional and social media (vastly slanted left) which did not exist in 1980, and partly due to slow but inexorable trends: the increasing liberalization that comes with each generation due to the schools, the lack of fathers in the home, thus more self-indulgent whiners in every generation, and the increasing misunderstanding of the critical role of a free market economy to a well-functioning and literate democratic citizenry.

Yes, and perhaps more germane than their age is that this new breed of bishops are from a slowly growing group of those often chosen by Pope Benedict. There certainly are some common (and welcome) trends and traits in both his consecration of new bishops and his elevations to archbishop positions.

We need to be careful to clarify the distinctions, which I daresay very few people understand, between denying Communion per Canon Law (915 or 916) and excommunication, whether Latae or Ferendae Senteniae.

There is also a distinction between being counseled not to present for Communion which may leave the burden on the individual, and a priest being compelled by Canon Law to refuse it, or the Bishop instructing the priests of his diocese that they are thus bound.

Sibelius has NOT been publicly excommunicated, but there is reason to suppose that she and the others often mentioned (Biden, Pelosi, etc) may be essentially excommunicated LATAE (internally, not publicly, not decreed by an ecclesial authority).

The Church is rightfully cautious about imposing its severest penalty and thus removing someone from spiritual privileges and sacraments, thereby further prodding them along the road to Hell. Ferendae is an extreme last resort, every encouragement to repentance is made first.

Now that the margin in Oregon is only 6 points, I’m no longer ashamed to admit I live here. We have a few smart things that other states might do well to imitate.

One is we have no polling booths, no polling places, no lines, no crowds. It’s all vote by mail. It’s exactly like what many states have as an “absentee” ballot, but applied to the entire electorate. There is a secret sealed envelope that goes in another with your signature outside to verify. The registrar mails ONE ballot to each registered voter a month or so in advance. You can mail in or just use a convenient drive-by drop box. This saves lots of money and also there are no hanging chads or electronic glitches to cause confusion.

The second great thing we have is full service gas stations. It’s illegal for people to exit their car at the pump. An attendant pumps the gas, and I’ve never had a rude one. This is much safer and cleaner, especially for ladies (I hate that last drip from the nozzle and it reminds you of you-know-what). 20,000 jobs per year are generated, yet our gas prices remain in line with this part of the country. Only 2 states have this law, I believe.

Throwing things at uniformed public employees who are on duty, risking their own safety to peacefully restore order and protect the citizenry. Ah, must be Democrats.

I love Bp. Jenky’s cover page to the priests that accompanied this letter. Usually these “read at mass” things are requested, suggested or advised in almost pleading terms.

“By virtue of your vow of obedience to me as your bishop, I require that this letter be personally read by each celebrating priest at each weekend Mass,” Jenky wrote in a letter circulated to clergy.

Nice to see a bishop actually “Teach, Govern and Sanctify” instead of vacillate, mollycoddle and pacify.

There is anger on both sides, some based on pure misconceptions. But here is the reason I’ve discovered for the ever-widening chasm between the 2 ideologies:

Democrats make their decisions based on feelings.
Republicans make their decisions based on reason.

Perhaps a generalization, but after years of these sort of discussions, it’s what finally seems to be the bottom line.
