Come on, BYU grads should be smarter than this. :)

Ainge's Jersey, which happens to be number 22, was retired. However, the number was not retired. I guess you will have to live with the fact that other players will wear your number in the future (perish the thought).

Ainge's jersey (which was retired, and happens to have the number 22 on it) was retired.

By the way, I forgot to offer my congratulations to you. :)

Since you asked--It was a conspiracy. All 22,700 fans in attendance, along with the hundreds of thousands of cougar fans all around the country were told that your jersey would be retired, but not your number. In fact, I think you were the only one they neglected to tell.

If I were you, I would go straight to the Athletic Director and demand he retire your number also. :)

Thanks for the humerous exchange. I was tiring of pouring over the hundreds of posts on the Smart story and needed a good laugh.

By the way, the article can be found at www.byucougars.com

"You're a strange duck. The number 22 most certainly was retired on Saturday night (whether you believe it or not, is irrelevant)."

According to the official BYU sports website it says,

"Ainge's jersey, not his number, was retired, which means future players may still have the option to wear No. 22. Only two other BYU athletes, football players -- Eldon Fortie (1960-62), who wore No. 40, and Marion Probert (1951-54), who wore No. 81 -- have had their jerseys retired."

I guess I would have expected you to know that. I will let you get back to your political discussion now and will comment no further. You can continue to portray yourself as Ainge, I just know better, as do all those who really are fans of Danny Ainge.

Sorry for changing the topic of discussion, but I am a "strange duck". :)

As a die-hard fan, I know it wasn't retired. BYU does not retire jerseys. Ainge's number 22 was honored and he was given a replica of his jersey.

If it truly were retired, no other player would be able to wear the number, and that is not the case.

If it was so anti-climactic, I guess that all that Ainge said to the crowd was a lie. Along with all of the newspaper articles and television appearances where he said that this was an incredible honor.

Yea, thanks for the good read. I have become a fan of Hitchens over the past few months, also.

Saturday must have been special (yet so anti-climactic). Good thing you had a couple of drinks that night.

By the way, they didn't retire your jersey (of course, you probably know that). Others will come into the program and continue to wear your number (so it hasn't been retired). By the way, I forget who last wore your number on the team. I think it was pretty recently. Maybe you can help me remember.

And I am not paranoid and won't take this any further. I have been fully convinced (I just don't see why you find it useful to claim you are Ainge).

Please, since I may never get to speak with you in person, tell me all about what happened. What kind of honors were bestowed upon you and who was all there?

Yes, of course what happened was very anti-climactic, I'm sure. Sorry, you may fool others, but not a die-hard cougar who followed the real Ainge's career religiously. :)

But, that being said, welcome to the board anyways.

You don't remember receiving what one would probably consider the highest honor at the collegiate level? Geez, with your family all there and your son on the bench, along with nearly 23,000 screaming for you, I thought you would remember. :)

Are you going to keep me in suspense about last Saturday night? I would love to hear your own account. Come on, I'm a coug, too.

"I think it's pretty damn good myself."

You just gave it away! Danny, us good Mormon boys don't swear.

By the way, how did you enjoy yourself last Saturday night? I would like to hear all about your experience that night (we can get to politics later, this might be the only time I get to speak to Danny Ainge). :)

I have lurked for some time on the religious board, but chose not to post much, based largely on the hatred shown by many of the so-called Christians. Maybe things will be a little different from now on.
