Star Traveler arrives at the crux of the matter and why so many posters and readers are so interested in this story. Everybody’s got a secret. Actually more than one secret. Secrets. Not many know of these secrets, or “skeletons in the closet.” Families hide these skeleton secrets, don’t discuss them, ignore them. . . to their Eternal peril.

Most people in their day to day existence wear a mask (or masks). They put on a show, act a part, dance up a storm if need be, and are exhausted by the effort (as anyone acting would in real life).

The neat thing is that God doesn’t want you to be wearing such a mask. He already knows everyone’s heart anyway! Simply admit to God you are wearing such a mask, and ask Him to forgive you for doing life your way and not the way God intended (God is not a killjoy: God is not about taking away your “fun” just for the sake of powertripping). By living one’s life in the manner of “Love God and do as you please” - because lovers of God will want to do the Will of God - is very freeing (as I and many I know have found out).

Yup, there’s hope for us all. . . even for the one who is the topic of this post (I understand family members are reading this thread and have already commented; this statement is especially meant for them all).

The God I know revealed in the Bible is the God of Second Chances. . . even third chances. Food for thought for Freepers, readers and friends reading along.

    Kindest Regards,

  • Former cokehead Don Imus kicks Rush when he's down

Imus has gone downhill even compared to his early days in radio. . .

One of the first jobs he had (or the first, I don't remember now) was right down the boulevard at Radio 1470 KUTY in Palmdale (California) (back in the days when it was a top 40 format, not the "Radio Unica" format it now has). He was then known as "Captain Don" and would also announce the bingo numbers (a then current KUTY station promo). As kids we were told by our parents, and neighbor's parents, NOT to listen to KUTY in the afternoon after school - his time slot - because of his ribald phrases and (to a late 1960's listener's ears) shocking remarks. If I remember the story right - and I was here while he was here, remember - KUTY fired him for being out of bounds with his ribald remarks. We kids could then turn away from that "beautiful XTRA music" and go back to top 40 KUTY after school again - and we were thankful. "Captain Don" only lasted here a few months.

Re: "The DJs that put down others leave me flat." That's all I'm going to say about that. . .

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on The Purpose Driven Life. Indeed, it's not just for Christians. . . it's for anyone who is searching for purpose and meaning to their life. Rick Warren wrote the book for anyone and everyone to read and reflect upon. It's easy to read and a very engaging book.

Glad to hear that giving the book as a gift got you - in due time - to read it. Neat!
  • Is Arizona the Next Recall State?

If Arizona doesn't start controlling who gets free care at its government funded hospitals and set a residency requirement on who votes in her elections, Arizona will have another Humphrey's Peak: crippling debt.

Channel that anger, neighbor Arizonans: get yourself a recall of Gov. Napolitano! I remember she wasn't exactly the fountain of truth during the gasoline shortage a while ago, either.

Read the full article. You'll see that Arnold's advisers are proposing a sweeping constitutional amendment to limit state spending! Huzzah!!!

Getting Dem Steve Westly, GOP Assemblyman John Campbell AND Jon Coupal from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer's Assn. together on supporting a spending cap is no mean feat. . . mind you, this is a trial balloon.

Keep in mind Tom McClintock said during the campaign the problem was that the State spends too much. This addresses it in a big way. . . Thanks, Tom!

    AND. . .Go, Arnold, go!

Thanks for the original research on ol' Gretchen. . . I've got more news for you about Berkeley residents. It's not just the young who are leftist/Marxist!

There's a whole lot of disabled of various ages - even retirement age - who live in Berkeley and believe with all their heart others owe them a living. Subsidized housing (apartments), utilities, phone, food, and taxis if they could swing it. . . (FYI, the taxis are the ONE item on this list which is still unsubsidized capitalist).

Anyone besides Angry Clam (who is a resident there) who has visited Berkeley of late? I have. It's scary, moreso than Halloween is. You park your car, walk the sidewalk, and you can't. There's a protestor (or protestors) telling you how to live your life. You walk in the middle of the street instead, where you could become a traffic injury statistic. No grace given in Berkeley, generally. What a mean place. . . Parking is tough, too. And you have to watch what you say and how you look at someone. . . they could take offense at you looking at them, you know.

Visitor and business friendly they ain't!

Guess what? It's my "joy" to go to Berkeley on business this Friday. Hope Gretchen hasn't put out her "welcome" mat for me. . . It gets tougher each trip to go there. Please pray with me for the citizens of Berkeley. . . a dark place indeed.

Source of my information: an unnamed Freeper wannabe friend of mine. . .they have to stay undercover there in Berkeley, after all!

Re: ". . .but it was unclear which tradition was being restored."

Which brings to mind the saying "the unexamined life is not worth living."

How sad that we have this sin nature that draws us away from the love and nurture of the Father. A reminder to keep watch over our lives and claim promises such as Philippians 1:6 - and cry out for our full completion in Christ be done.

It's like Rick Warren wrote: life is a test. And there's lots of tests, given over and over, moment by moment. I've had a few today myself. Have I passed them all perfectly? To be honest, no. Is there forgiveness available to me? Yes. Hold me closer, dear Lord. . .

Thanks Concentric Circles for getting the print article from the "mighty" Newhall Signal into this thread. OK, it was a Latino owned business - not necessarily a supporter (though he appears to have been interested in a dialogue with Candidate Schwarzenegger).

The Signal has been a low circulation paper for decades now especially compared to the Los Angeles (actually these days Woodland Hills section of Los Angeles) Daily News. With their old time Santa Clarita focus, they just don't have the bucks to put the article on their website.

BTW, I only saw four buses, not the five the article stated.

Great post on outsider opinion on the Times.

To read yet another evaluation of the Times, go to http://www.epinions.com and enter "newspapers" in the search area. Then enter "Los Angeles Times." You'll find several opinions of the Times there, including mine (same username as on FR).

My opinion of the Times was as fair and unbiased as I could make it at the time, but now even I see that I'll have to update that opinion on epinions. Oh, the stench of it. . .

Tia Carrera it was. . .

I can tell she has lots of fans here. I've frankly never heard of her, though. You can tell that movie stars per se don't impress me. Well thought out discussions that are constructive in nature do garner my attention and support - even to those whom I disagree with. Relationships and discusssions that center around life issues - things that matter most - I also favor.

But glitz for glitz's sake? Nahhh. . . And R. Lee Ermey lives down the road from me. He doesn't impress me because of "Full Metal Jacket" or Mail Call," but by his relationships and beliefs.

Again, it was a short campaign stop. Arnold wasn't there to speak of EVERY issue under the sun. . . just his main stump speech.

Arnold was introduced by a female entertainment personality (name escapes me) at Arcadia this morning. She basically vouched for him there.

Also, Arnold refuted the slime directed at him in the last 24 hours or so while at the Arcadia Arboreteum. KFI AM radio 640 in Los Angeles had this in their news several times this morning. KFI's on the Internet. . . search around on Dogpile.com or a search engine of your choice for the story via KFI.

I believe that's the name of the business. Yes, it was on the corner of San Fernando Road & Mc(something. . . I don't remember).

I too was wondering why the rally was held there instead of say, Central Park on Bouquet Canyon Road. Central Park has much more land and parking (most people parked on San Fernando Road in the no stopping zone). I heard some say that an Arnold supporter owns the business there, and so that's why the rally was there at his business. But I have not checked that statement out.

Thanks so very much for posting your information and perspective. There's nothing like someone walking in the same moccasins to know what their neighbor is going through.

I don't know you, and I don't think you know me, but you know what. . . I believe what you say here. In time the whole story will be told, but in these situations I've learned to hear out both sides of the story, and be willing to withhold judgment (give grace) in situations like these.

A little calm and time will hopefully gain one a greater perspective and increases the probability of getting at the truth of the matter involved. It's our choice to believe and be influenced by those chattering about every which thing - or not. Character matters. What do you know of Rush's character BEFORE all this happened? I'd be inclined to not rush to judgment (no pun intended), and go with what I already know about a person's character until facts prove otherwise.

Proverbs 18:17 says "The first to present his case seems right, till another comes and questions him." Apt words. . .
