Hi all, I lost all of my guns this past summer in a tragic boating accident in the middle of Lake Erie, and really need to replace my concealed carry pistol.Anyway, I was hoping I could get some ideas from you folks as to what I should get. I would like something small enough to fit in a pants pocket without being obvious, but still have some stopping power (.38 or 9mm). Of course, this is just what I would like, not what I necessarily need. If you have any other ideas for concealed carry, please feel free to add...
  • Should the term "RINO" be redifined?

Seeing all of this positive news about Trump has led me to a somewhat off-the-wall line of thought - is it time to redefine the term "RINO"? Let's face it, the GOP as a party no longer has true conservative values. The party has left its conservative roots behind, and has adopted a leftist/fascist philosophy among its establishment members.Since the term "RINO" is an acronym made from "Republican In Name Only", should it still be used as a pejorative? In my opinion, RINO should be a badge of honor at this point instead of an insult to a GOP candidate...

Hi fellow Freepers, I have been away since the last general election, but since we cleaned up in this midterm, I have been getting back into the news and politics a little more. Anyway, I was reading a globull warming article's comments on some website, and one of the comments was from a physicist named Harry Dale Huffman. He used an equation to show that there is almost NO difference between Earth and Venus when it comes to atmospheric temperature, even though Venus has an atmosphere composed almost entirely of CO2. With indisputable math, he is able to show absolute...

Heya Freepers, I have a problem. I started writing a book, and I am getting in over my head, here. I am at a point in the notes for the book where the Middle East is broke because oil is pretty much worthless. Will the Mid East population roll over Europe? Will they get control of European nukes? Will they immediately use those nukes on Israel and the US? What would our reaction be? Would we defend ourselves or try to appease them with more Muslim outreach programs a la NASA? Would Russia and China help us?Believe it or not, this...

Question for fellow gun nuts: I have a lot of guns at my dad's place in Ohio. Rifles (.22, 30/30), shotguns(410, 12ga, 20ga), and pistols (.38, .44). No assault weapons. Here's the thing. I want to drive them back to Idaho at some point, but I just heard a news story about a guy that is being charged with "Transportation of Firearms Across State Lines". If I get pulled over, am I going to prison? I know, this sounds like a stupid question, but I would hate to go to prison for driving legal firearms across the country.
  • Videographer had bottoms up view of nuclear blast, lives to tell tale.

George Yoshitake, Don Luttrell, and four other officers stood directly underneath an exploding nuclear warhead 55 years ago -- and lived to tell their tale. The blast was just a test, a bit of Cold War marketing designed to make the concept of nuclear war less scary for the public, but the 2-kiloton atomic explosion set off over the Nevada nuclear test site (and over the heads of those six men) was very real. • Can the Secret Service Tell You To Shut Up?

Last week, President Obama signed into law the Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011. This law permits Secret Service agents to designate any place they wish as a place where free speech, association and petition of the government are prohibited. And it permits the Secret Service to make these determinations based on the content of speech. Thus, federal agents whose work is to protect public officials and their friends may prohibit the speech and the gatherings of folks who disagree with those officials or permit the speech and the gatherings of those who would praise them, even...

Three September debates have shaken-up the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Herman Cain has jumped into the top tier. Rick Perry’s stumbled. Mitt Romney's holding steady. And Michele Bachmann is hitting bottom. That’s according to a Fox News poll released Wednesday. The new poll found Cain’s support has nearly tripled among GOP primary voters to 17 percent. That’s up from 6 percent before this month’s debates, and puts him in what is essentially a three-way tie with Perry and Romney. SYDNEY (AP) -- Australia will force its 500 worst polluters to pay 23 Australian dollars ($25) for every ton of carbon dioxide they emit, with the government promising to compensate households hit with higher power bills under a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions unveiled Sunday. Prime Minister Julia Gillard sought to reassure wary Australians that the deeply unpopular carbon tax will only cause a minority of households to pay more and insisted it is critical to helping the country lower its massive carbon emissions. Australia is one of the world's worst greenhouse gas polluters, due to its heavy reliance...

Like any entity that abandons basic quality control, political parties rot from within. It happened to the Democrats long ago, and now has become the case with the Republican Party, which has strayed from its conservative underpinnings. There are really only four things I have a strong aversion to: unloaded guns, dull knives, banjos, and Republicans in Name Only (RINOs). The Nugent family simply doesn't allow any of those things in our lives.
  • Fred Thompson Is The Media’s Chosen 2008 “Village Idiot”

For as many presidential elections as I can recall two things are cretin, the media chooses who they perceive to be the most vulnerable candidate to tag as the election seasons “Village Idiot.” Then one candidate always puts his foot in his mouth driving him out of contention. The first honor has been bestowed on such great men as Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and now Fred Thompson. If Fred Thompson follows in the foot steps of any one of these men he’ll make one hell of a fine president...

NEWPORT BEACH – Actor and former Sen. Fred Thompson may be many conservatives' great hope to run for president, but he's keeping his cards close to his chest both in terms of his plans and in terms of specific policy positions. After his speech to the Lincoln Club at the Balboa Bay Club on Friday, I sat down with him to see just where he stands in terms of throwing his hat in the ring – he hasn't yet – and on some key issues. Below are excerpts. You can find the full transcript at the Total Buzz blog, blogs.ocregister.com/buzz/...

Sorry, all you Fredheads out there. I think I may have inadvertantly lost a Thompson supporter. My buddy in Vegas and I communicate during the day via email, and I have a "Fred Thompson For President" picture as my signature. He agreed with me that Thompson was a great candidate and had his support up until today. Then he sends me an email that said: Seeing your signature at the end of your emails is giving me second thoughts. I am very afraid for a country that has to hire an actor to be president, because no politician can be...

Does anyone know how much IRS bean-counters get paid? If so, I would love to know so I can figure out how much money they wasted going over my 1040 long form (I own a business) to figure out that I owe them $14.85. I don't mind sending them the money, but wow was I ever angry once I got to thinking that they must have spent a few hours going over all my tax stuff. Anyway, I have a feeling that this kind of thing is going on all the time, and if IRS employees make the same kind...

Where No One Locks The Door (Revisited) By Doug Patton April 10, 2006 Nearly four years ago, I wrote a column called "Where No One Locks the Door," wherein I attempted to bring the war on terror down to a very personal level. In rereading it, I realized how timely it was in analyzing the current debate over illegal immigration (particularly border security) so here is an update of that original piece: Imagine you are a child living with your family in a small town. You have always felt safe there. The crimes of big cities seem distant from your...
