SACRAMENTO — Republican legislators are decrying what they call a free-speech violation after Sen. Janet Nguyen, an Orange County Republican, was forcibly removed from the Senate floor Thursday morning during an attempt to criticize the late California Sen. Tom Hayden. The unusual scene, captured on video, shows the Vietnamese-American lawmaker being led from the floor by Capitol security officers. Nguyen, who fled communist Vietnam with her family and arrived in the U.S. in the early 1980s when she was a young child, is critical of Hayden’s anti-Vietnam War activism.

This seems to be the kind of mistake that has plagued the Trump campaign of late as it becomes more aggressive in the waning days before primary voters start making their decisions. An earlier ad on border security showed refugees trying to swarm across the border — in Morocco. The Trump campaign explained that away as saying that without Donald Trump as president, the Rio Grande would soon look the same. This gaffe is a little more difficult to explain away. In the original version of Trump’s Facebook video, pay close attention to the medals on the veterans that Trump...

"My concern is that the negligence of a few will adversely affect the majority. I've long been a believer in the "look at the solution, not the problem" theory. In this case, the solution is clear. We will have to leave borders behind and go for global unity when it comes to financial stability."

Today conservatives and Republicans are often not the same. However, they definitely have one thing in common: They desperately want to win the White House in 2016. For Democrats this election is important, but for Republicans and conservatives 2016 is not just crucial to the survival of this country and constitutional liberty - it is the ball game. That means Republicans must nominate a candidate who we know will govern according to constitutional principles, who is capable of drawing a clear contrast with Hillary Clinton and the Democrats on the issues of importance in today's political environment, and who has...

Like many others here, I don't have cable. So I rely on FR for unfiltered breaking news. And there where quite a few good and informative threads last night about the Paris attacks. Thanks to all the posters for that! Unfortunately, those threads were also peppered with distracting and silly attempts at humor. So here's my humble request. When the news is breaking - and serious - can we stay on-topic and avoid posting distractions?
