• [vanity] Bolt release fault - Remington 770 question

Question for FReeperdom members who have experience with the Remington 7XX series in .308. Bought a slightly used rifle, a 770. Had it inspected by the 'smith at the gun store, zero'd for 200 yds. Son took it shooting yesterday and intermittently when he opened the action the bolt would slide all the out the rear, requiring re-assembly insertion. He was shooting with an experienced 7XX friend who of course made him check the release lever, and they found no obvious fault. Any thoughts on what to check for or inspect prior to letting the 'smithy look at it for...

An estimated two billion people around the world saw Jamaica's Usain Bolt thrash his rivals to win gold in the men's 100m final - but none of them were in the U.S., as NBC declined to broadcast the historic moment live. Bolt sailed through the semi-finals before successfully defending his Olympic title - against a field that included three Americans - at 4.50pm EDT. But, not for the first time this Games, NBC took the controversial decision to hold off broadcasting the hugely popular event until prime time, leaving millions of track and field fans outraged.

AI member Tyler relays a tale of wanton death and destruction that was only narrowly averted by the vigilance of our friends who work for the Transportation Safety Administration. We’re not sure what Tyler was thinking – trying to carry such a dangerous item on board a commercial aircraft – but here’s his story . . . I had the friendly people at TSA notify me when I tried to get on a flight to Alaska (where I work around bears) this morning that a disassembled bolt for a Ruger m77 is not, in fact, a nicely machined paper weight...

BERLIN – Usain Bolt got the birthday present he wanted from his teammates at the world championships on Friday, and Allyson Felix spoiled the party by ending Jamaica's sprint domination. After the Jamaican relay team qualified for the 4x100 final without Bolt on the track, Felix glided to the finish with an elegance reminiscent of a long distance runner to win her third straight 200-meter world title. With a raised fist and little more than a smile at the finish, Felix broke the Jamaican hold on sprinting going back to the Beijing Olympics. She held off an early charge from...

  • Disney's Bolt - Why Reviews May Vary

Remember to good ole days when you could enjoy a movie without "reading between the lines" or having to worry about political overtones? My concerns regarding this topic are not so much the content in Disney’s newest animated feature “Bolt”, but rather the reaction of the critics. Certainly we all have our own taste, opinions and (with a grateful nod to our founding fathers) the freedom to express. It seems I wonder more often these days if the author’s work is objective truth or a piece written to influence opinion, perspective and power. In the movie “Bolt”, both the left...

A North Attleboro man faces financial ruin because he built a new home so close to dangerous high-voltage transmission lines that fluorescent bulbs inside the house light up without even being plugged in. The electric currents running through the two-story home are considered so potentially harmful that the town’s fire department has strung “caution” tape around the house while an electrical inspector has refused to issue a final permit out of fear someone might get electrocuted. The home’s metallic door knobs and exterior shingles give off mild electric jolts when touched, while flowing currents are strong enough to light up...

RADWANIYAH, Iraq — Mohamad, an Iraqi farmer, found it difficult enough to survive on what produce he could eke out of his small desert farm. But when some of the carefully constructed irrigation channels were destroyed, he had no way to provide for his family. Mohamad’s land was partially destroyed when the U.S. Army closed roads for military purposes. While the roads were closed a vehicle drove across his land, caving in the canal and stopping the water flow to his crops. Mohamad had nowhere to turn – except to the U.S. Army’s Brigade Operational Law Team for help. The...

Teamsters, SEIU Decide to Bolt AFL-CIO By RON FOURNIER, AP Political Writer 21 minutes ago CHICAGO - Jolting organized labor, the Teamsters and a massive service employees' union decided Sunday to bolt the AFL-CIO, paving way for two other labor groups to sever ties in the movement's biggest schism since the 1930s. The four dissident unions, representing nearly one-third of the AFL-CIO's 13 million members, announced they were boycotting the federation's convention that begins Monday, a step that was widely considered to be a precursor to leaving the federation. They are part of the Change to Win Coalition, a group...

It can get pretty lonely as a conservative columnist, but it's good to see some in the groovy Left are having a re-think. WE conservatives must cheer up and face the truth -- we're now winning the culture wars.I know, it will be hard to adjust to frowning less. Nor is it the conservative thing to unbutton and feel part of a crowd. To feel popular. That's for the other side -- the people in love with collectives and mobs. We prefer to feel like lone beacons in a gathering storm, or Horatio on the bridge. We like shaking our...

Former POWs Blame Kerry for Captivity 1 minute ago By DAVID B. CARUSO, Associated Press Writer PHILADELPHIA - Former U.S. prisoners of war who blamed their years of captivity in Vietnam on activists such as John Kerry (news - web sites) are the only voices in a documentary that Sinclair Broadcasting has decided not to air in its entirety. Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee, was a decorated Navy lieutenant who returned from Southeast Asia disillusioned. He organized anti-war protests in Washington and testified against the conflict before the Senate. The 42-minute film, titled, "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal," is...

March 20, 2004 -- The NYPD is warning cops to look out for an ingenious homemade gun that looks like a common bolt, but can fire a .22 caliber bullet, The Post has learned. Such a gun was recently taken from a Philadelphia iron worker by a Pennsylvania state park ranger.
