MOSCOW - There is a "high degree of probability" that bone fragments found recently near the Russian city of Yekaterinburg are those of a daughter and son of the last czar, forensics experts said Friday. If confirmed, the find would fill in a missing chapter in the story of the doomed Romanovs, who were killed after the violent 1917 Bolshevik Revolution ushered in more than 70 years of Communist rule. The fragments were found by archaeologists in a burned field near the Ural Mountains city where Czar Nicholas II, his wife, Alexandra, and their five children were held prisoner by...

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) -- Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton outlined a broad economic vision Tuesday, saying it's time to replace an "on your own" society with one based on shared responsibility and prosperity. The Democratic senator said what the Bush administration touts as an "ownership society" really is an "on your own" society that has widened the gap between rich and poor. "I prefer a 'we're all in it together' society," she said. "I believe our government can once again work for all Americans. It can promote the great American tradition of opportunity for all and special privileges for none."...

As she sees it now, she spent her 20s working too hard, never saying no to anything and succumbing to "the bad side of American psychology". "I love the English way, which is not as capitalistic as it is in America. People don't talk about work and money; they talk about interesting things at dinner parties. I like living here because I don't tap into the bad side of American psychology..."

Since the elections, some have claimed that the victories of a few 'moderate' Democrats represents movement of the Democratic Party towards the center. I'm not convinced. Certainly, some of the newly elected Democrats have been somewhat more conservative on social issues, but it's very hard to see how that will lead to more conservative policies. If you think the Kennedy and Pelosi wing of the Democratic Party are suddenly going to submit, e.g., pro-gun or anti-abortion legislation, you haven't been paying attention. Instead, the occasional, putative 'conservatism' from some new Democrats has been a cover for their economic views —...

No 'zhid' for president Rabbi Lau is the polar opposite of the Israel envisioned by the Zionist forefathers. We need an enlightened 'new Jew' to lead the country Since the ugly, sickly "zhid," a character that doesn't appear in the least bit majestic, bestows on the ideal image of the beautiful, proud Hebrew… the zhid should be shocked and humiliated, whereas the other guy should be proud. The zhid is loathsome to everyone and everything, whereas the proud Hebrew must charm them… The zhid loves hiding with bated breath from the eyes of strangers, whereas the other guy must march...

Fr. Ignacy Skorupka and numerous Polish soldiers died for Christian Poland and Europe in 1920. Our task is to preserve that heritage He died for Christian Europe On the occasion of blessing of the monument to Fr Ignacy Skorupka Bishop Stanislaw Wielgus In his last book entitled 'Memory and identity', most regrettable Holy Father John Paul II, reflecting again on the mystery of iniquity in the history of mankind and on the struggle between good and evil that was waged from the beginning of mankind, quoted the words, which the genial German poet Goethe put in the mouth of Mephistopheles...

For the greater part of the 20th century, Russia's population suffered from the nightmare of wars, repression and perpetual hunger. There was the famine of the Civil War, the famine of the years of collectivization, and the famine of [WWII]. It almost seems as if the relative prosperity of recent years has engendered a peculiar reaction of the flesh, something almost akin to gratitude. All across the country, a plethora of beautiful girls has sprung up. ...They are highly educated, and have plunged rapturously into the ocean of literature now being published in Russia.... Each knows several languages.... "A chicken's...

Putin in push to extend his term Mark Franchetti, Moscow20sep04 RUSSIAN President Vladimir Putin is considering extending his term of office, due to expire in 2008, in a sign of his determination to tighten his grip on power and crack down on terrorism after the Beslan school massacre. Moscow sources say plans are being drawn up to lengthen Mr Putin's mandate from four years to seven, or to change the rules so he can stand for a third term as president. If implemented, this measure would make Mr Putin the longest-serving Russian leader since Leonid Brezhnev, who ruled the...
