An Ocean County resident's 3-year-old pet bobcat has been missing since March 25, leaving neighbors on edge. Virginia Fine told NBC 10 Philadelphia her "sweet" and "super affectionate" 38-pound domesticated bobcat, Rocky, escaped through her home’s back door while playing with her dog. Rocky is up-to-date on all his shots and declawed, she told the news station. She also said he "has no aggression at all." But residents who live near her home in Stafford Township are still on edge.

A woman’s photograph of a big cat roaming the snowy woods near her mother’s home in a sleepy central Connecticut town has some convinced it’s a mountain lion — despite environmental officials’ assertion that cougars are extinct in the state. Caitlin Handley posted the photograph on Durham-Middlefield Patch on March 6 under her mother Linda’s name, warning residents to keep their pets inside, and soon received a dozen comments from folks who surmised it was a bobcat. “It was approximately 10 in the morning when I saw it,” Handley says. “I believe the animal was actually bigger than the picture...

The wild bobcat that attacked two people in Brookfield, Mass., leaving a man with severe gashes on his face and arms, had rabies, according to a town official. Stephen J. Comtois, chairman of the town council, announced at a council meeting Tuesday evening that the bobcat was infected with the neurological disease, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported. Comtois said the victims of the attack were being treated with vaccination shots. ((snip)) Amid the frenzy, Mundell and his wife managed to pin the animal to the ground with a walking crutch. While Mundell kneeled on the bobcat, his wife ran...

    Northern Casco Bay, Maine
Curious if hunters/outdoors/wildlife FRs know if this is a Bobcat. Here's some details not in the picture itself: Norther Casco Maine near Brunswick, about 1am a couple nights ago. Cabin at end of tidal cove, woodsy, relatively sparsely populated. Most Maine wild animals make regular appearances in my yard. Note my black and white 1/2 coon cat in the background. (The well in is 7 inches tall for reference.) My cat grew up in the wild, raised a family in the wild, nothing scares her. She chased this cat off the property after losing patience. It's a night photo -...

It had spots and stripes, but it was no ordinary feline dropped off at the Arizona Humane Society. It was a baby bobcat. "Initially everyone in admissions was looking at it as if it was a kitten," AHS spokeswoman Bretta Nelson said. "But it became very apparent when he opened his mouth and it was not a meow that came out. It was quite a noise." A Scottsdale man dropped off the kitten on Tuesday after spending three days bottle-feeding it at his home. He first discovered the animal Saturday, walking along Cave Creek Road near Dynamite Boulevard. In similar...

PHOENIX -- A Valley man has some surprising visitors in his attic -- a family of bobcats. Fred Greenshaw does not go to his attic often, but he went up there to grab an ice cream maker for his daughter's birthday. Instead, he found himself looking straight into the eyes of a bobcat. "I heard that real low growl so I stopped what I was doing and I climbed back down," Greenshaw said. He says he also heard something coming from behind some boxes. "I could hear a baby crying," he said. [snip]

PORT LUDLOW, Wash. (AP) -- A Washington state homeowner says he left his front door open for his own cats. He wasn't expecting a 35-pound bobcat to walk in, but that's what happened. The Port Ludlow resident told animal control officers he watched the wild cat jump over a couch, climb over a big screen TV and then jump up to a loft, where it made itself at home.

WHISTLER, British Columbia -- A local lynx padded across the Winter Olympic downhill course Wednesday while a training session was halted because of fog. "Get out of the way," Canadian downhiller Manuel Osborne-Paradis said. "Oh wow -- you do not want to get close to that." Fortunately for the orange-and-black lynx and the skiers, the session was already on hold due to low visibility and none of the Olympic athletes encountered the four-legged feline. Still, officials broadcast a warning over the race radio to make sure no skiers were on the course and eventually the lynx hopped over the barriers...

Story Updated: Sep 14, 2009 at 5:23 PM CDT It's been confirmed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources that the animal that attacked a Hermantown man over the weekend was almost certainly a bobcat. Gary Lucia was attacked in his garage by a bobcat while trying to defend his pet ducks and geese. Lucia has set up several traps in the woods around Lucia's house to prevent the animal from returning to do any more damage. Bobcats are fairly common in the Northland but rarely attack people. The nocturnal cats are about two times the size of an average...

When the Cox family of Novato unpacked from a weekend coast trip, they were initially humored by what looked like a small kitten that had sneaked in through a front door they had propped open as they brought bags inside. "My son J.D. said, 'Look, a kitten came in the house,'" said Kim Cox, recalling the events that occurred about noon Sunday. "We all thought it was a kitten, and he was wandering around the living room. But then it freaked out and hid underneath the couch." The Coxes, a self-described "dog family," then called friend Sue Hunt, who is...
