Fifteen years after the 9/11 attacks, Islamophobia is on the rise in America.Anti-Muslim hate crimes are approximately five times more frequent than they were before 2001, according to the FBI. The past year has been particularly brutal, especially in the aftermath of Islamic State-claimed attacks in Europe and the San Bernardino shootings last December carried out by a Muslim husband and wife. More reports of mosque vandalism and attacks against those believed to be Muslim surfaced. Anti-Muslim rhetoric has also been given an enormous boost of pseudo-credibility and prominence by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Overheated? There is conflicting information in FoxNews reports about Hillary Clinton leaving Memorial Plaza during 9/11 ceremonies this morning. Clinton had been standing with Donald Trump, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, former NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg, former NYPD commissioner Bernie Kerik, and others paying respect to those whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001. “But, as a law enforcement source stationed about “15 feet away” from Clinton told Fox News’ Rick Leventhal, Clinton left the Lower Manhattan, N.Y. ceremony early due to what was being called an apparent “medical episode.” (FoxNews, Sept. 11, 2016)

A woman from the National Opinion Research Center (U of Chicago) showed up at our door yesterday to follow up on a letter from the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services branch of Dept of HHS) sent to him (don't remember getting one) to participate in the Medicare Beneficiary Survey.
