Tsunami warning issued for Izu Islands after M6.8 quake in Pacific Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 15:41 JST TOKYO — The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning Wednesday for the Izu island chain south of Tokyo after a quake measuring a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 took place in the Pacific. The agency expects the height of the possible tsunamis to be some 50 centimeters but warned they may be higher in some places. The 3:11 p.m. quake had its focus east of the Kanto area. (Kyodo News)
