The move is noteworthy as Mayor Muriel Bowser has been generally cooperative with the federal effort. D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb brought the suit, however.

Washington, D.C., is suing the Trump administration over its deployment of the National Guard in the nation's capital.

The suit states Trump "has run roughshod over a fundamental tenet of American democracy – that the military should not be involved in domestic law enforcement," NBC News reported.

Trump began the federal takeover last month to crack down on crime. He further assumed direct control of the city's police force and asked for National Guard troops from other states to participate in the effort.

Federal troops have since begun carrying weapons in the city. Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser has been generally cooperative with the federal effort. D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb brought the suit, however.

The Democrat Party stands firmly behind the criminal elements.

I thought she said this week she wants them through December.

This shows her intentions.

How is DC suing if the mayor authorizes it?

I detect an actual lack of standing.

Under declared emergencies, it can.

Mayor doesn’t seem to mind.

If the DA is a separately elected officer, then he/she could institute a suit contrary to the mayor.

DC is federal territory.

Yes, and it ‘enjoys’ self-rule only because Congress decided to abandon its Constitutionally mandated requirement to govern the District. I understand why; it was the height of the Civil Rights movement and D.C. was seen as a black city, but that doesn’t make it right.

Oh, for f@#$ sake! The National Guard was called in to bust up the Homestead Steel Strike in Pennsylvania. Nothing federal about labor and management disagreeing and duking it out. That was the 19th Century, and the National Guard just waltzed on in.

I thought the DC mayor was grateful for the help.

DC should not have a local government. This is the national Capital. Eliminate it and put it back under direct control of Congress and Presidential appointees.

But regardless, saying deploying troops to secure the national Capital / seat of the Federal government is “against democracy” is just stupid - and this was made as an argument in a *court* finding? It’s like a blog post on a Leftist forum.

In the upcoming CR resolution, they should simply add a sentence stating that the D.C. Self rule Act is hereby repealed. Problem solved.

Then in 2028 have the government appoint Donald J. Trump as the new Governor of the District of Columbia :)
