A Florida man tried to kill a 9-year-old girl in a Best Buy bathroom, jamming a plastic bag over her head and stuffing her face in a toilet before employees intervened, authorities said. Another customer heard the girl screaming and crying inside the women’s restroom at the Jacksonville store and notified store staff. An employee looked under the stall and discovered a horrific scene. James Tadros, 29, had kicked and beaten the girl bloody and was forcing her head inside the toilet, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

University of Alabama student Nicole March claims that a member of Best Buy's Geek Squad posted her nude photos on the web after fixing her computer. March has filed a lawsuit against Best Buy, claiming that she is "devastated and humiliated" by the incident. Her lawyers claim the pictures were taken for an art project at school, where she was studying the human form. According to March's lawsuit, she took her computer to a Best Buy store in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to fix the hard drive in August 2011. March also works at the same Best Buy. However, in May...

Jean Makihotch made customers of a Wellington Best Buy store "uncomfortable," according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office arrest report. The 24-year-old man sat on the floor and took pictures of store employees at about 2:45 p.m. on Friday, according to the report. After his foray into photography, Makihotch then tried to wheel a cart loaded with $685 worth of items out of the store, at 1040 South State Road 7 without paying, deputies said.

Microsoft today announced a strategic partnership with Best Buy and Future Shop. The company plans to build Windows Stores in 500 Best Buy locations across the US and more than 100 Best Buy and Future Shop locations in Canada, launching from late June through September. The naming choice of Windows Stores is confusing; first of all, the Windows Store is Microsoft’s app store, and secondly these locations will essentially be Microsoft Stores given that they are to feature a range of products and accessories, including Windows tablets and PCs and Windows Phones, but also Microsoft Office, Xbox, “and more.” Microsoft...

While 2013 will be a tough year for retailers due to the tepid economic recovery, a few in particular face a critical 12 months. Their experiences highlight the challenges facing store chains, from increasingly cautious consumers to fierce online competition. These unlucky retailers are going into the New Year with extra woes: slipping sales, questionable strategies and tight finances—which is why they are the ones to watch, and not in a good way. Best Buy Co. BBY -1.22% has been plagued by the retail phenomenon called "showrooming," where shoppers examine products in its stores but buy online through rivals. A...

July 10, 2012 12:21 pm By Philip Marcelo WOONSOCKET, R.I. -- Drugstore giant CVS Caremark is among the latest corporate sponsors dropping their support of the American Legislative Exchange Council, or ALEC, a business-backed national conservative group. CVS Caremark joined John Deere, MillerCoors, HP and Best Buy in deciding not to fund ALEC, according to ColorOfChange.org, an organization opposed to the stricter voter-identification laws ALEC advocates for. ColorOfChange issued a news release Tuesday with this comment from Larry Burton, CVS Caremark senior vice-president for government affairs: "Over the last few weeks, we have closely followed the issues surrounding the American...

With Father's Day just over a week away, it is important to publicize the ongoing situation with Best Buy and CAIR. Best Buy was founded by Richard Schulze in 1966 and the first store opened in St. Paul, Minnesota. Listed in 2008 as a Fortune 500 Company, Best Buy declares this to investors and employees. Our formula is simple: we're a growth company focused on better solving the unmet needs of our customers-and we rely on our employees to solve those puzzles. Thanks for stopping. Although it seems a bit truncated as a mission statement, clearly the focus is on...

In April the Minnesota branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations announced that retail giant Best Buy had become a “Platinum Sponsor” for its fifth anniversary banquet. And former U.S. Marine James Canning decided to do something about it. In a YouTube video, the Iraq and Beirut veteran demonstrated his frustration with “one of his favorite stores” by cutting his Best Buy “Reward Zone” card in half. “Because of this support Best Buy has been giving the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR, I can no longer conduct business with Best Buy.”

A heterosexual man in Denver claims that a Best Buy employee wrongly "outed" him on Facebook after he left his phone for repair. Rich Dewberry said he brought in his mobile device to get fixed and was given a new phone. Shortly afterward, his Facebook status read, "I am gay, I'm coming out." "The phone just started ringing constantly after that from [an] ex-spouse to friends," he told ABC's Denver affiliate, KMGH. Dewberry said he was logged into his Facebook account on the phone he left with the store. "I feel I have been humiliated. My reputation has been tarnished,"...

A group of Muslim men who abducted and raped two teenage girls as part of their Eid celebrations laughed in court yesterday as they were jailed for a total of 38 years. The girls, aged 15 and 16, were lured miles from their home to a dingy hostel. In a horrifying weekend-long ordeal, they were plied with alcohol and repeatedly raped by two men, Shamrez Rashid and Amar Hussain, before being offered to a number of others who also ‘used them for sex’. ... One defendant, Rashid, 20, was said to have claimed the girls had enjoyed the sex, which...

Think again before buying your next flat-screen television or computing device from Best Buy. The struggling retail giant recently used profits from American consumers to fund the annual banquet of a group closely linked to Hamas. The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) recently listed Best Buy as a "Platinum Sponsor." Best Buy has refused to rule out future support for CAIR through numerous messages to its public relations department. The big box retailer is already in chaos amid the recent resignation of its CEO for personal misconduct, dwindling sales and bond downgrades.

Electronics retailer Best Buy announced it would close 50 big box locations in the U.S. as it refocuses its operations around mobile. The company said it will launch 100 new mobile locations as it retools its domestic store format. The announcement was timed with the company's fourth quarter report, where it sharply beat analyst expectations on the bottom line. Over the final quarter of 2011, revenue grew three percent to $16.6 billion while earnings per share hit $2.47. However, analysts polled by Bloomberg had forecast top line results of $17.15 billion, some $500 million more than the company reported. The...

When two alleged teenage thieves tried to flee a Best Buy, their escape attempts - dodging cars and wielding a small samurai sword - played out like something from the game systems they were trying to steal. Doug Kennedy and his son were heading toward the store on Independence Boulevard on Wednesday night when he saw two or three youths getting away with merchandise. A store employee was screaming after them. "I just thought, no, you can't do this," Kennedy said Thursday. The Virginia Beach resident tackled one. As he tried to pin him down, one of the teen's hands...

With a dwindling market share and increasingly public PR fiascoes, electronics mega-chain Best Buy has seen better days. And after the publication of a lengthy Forbes article detailing the ways in which the retailer is its own worst enemy, some have begun the countdown clock until the boys in blue go bankrupt. We would normally expect Best Buy to treat the Forbes piece the same way they would a complaining customer — by looking the other way and going on a smoke break in the back parking lot. But the CEO of Best Buy must have realized that shareholders know...

Electronics retailer Best Buy is headed for the exits. I can’t say when exactly, but my guess is that it’s only a matter of time, maybe a few more years. Consider a few key metrics. Despite the disappearance of competitors including Circuit City, the company is losing market share. Its last earnings announcement disappointed investors. In 2011, the company’s stock has lost 40% of its value. It’s forward P/E is a mere 6.23 (industry average is 10.20). Its market cap down to less than $9 billion. Its average analyst rating, according to The Street.com, is a B-. Those are just...
