Now that Marion Shepilov Barry has gone to the great crack den in the sky it is worth noting what a lowlife he was. This is an honest obituary of one of the worst mayors in American history. *Democrat Marion Barry was the mayor of the District of Columbia from 1979 to 1991 and again from 1995 to 1999. *Because he loved Communism so much Barry took the middle name Shepilov to honor one of his heroes, Dmitri Shepilov a Soviet Communist propagandist he admired. *In his second term he developed his cocaine habit and the corruption in his administration...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Divisive and flamboyant, maddening and beloved, Marion Barry outshone every politician in the 40-year history of District of Columbia self-rule. But for many, his legacy was not defined by the accomplishments and failures of his four terms as mayor and long service on the D.C. Council. Instead, Barry will be remembered for a single night in a downtown Washington hotel room and the grainy video that showed him lighting a crack pipe in the company of a much-younger woman. When FBI agents burst in, he referred to her with an expletive. She "set me up," Barry said.

Former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry was hospitalized Saturday night after he drove a vehicle into an oncoming lane of traffic and was involved in a wrong-way car crash on Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast. Mr. Barry’s spokeswoman Latoya Foster said the 78-year-old, now a D.C. Council member representing Ward 8, “had a hypoglycemic attack, became disoriented and had a minor fender bender.” Ms. Foster said both the diabetic former mayor and his passenger, who she did not identify, were being checked out for injuries. “He’s OK,” she said of Mr. Barry.

As Air Force One prepared to touch down in the Holy Land last year, I looked out my window and was once again struck by the fact that Israel’s security can be measured in a matter of minutes and miles. I’ve seen what security means to those who live near the Blue Line, to children in Sderot who just want to grow up without fear, to families who’ve lost their homes and everything they have to Hezbollah’s and Hamas’s rockets. And as a father myself, I cannot imagine the pain endured by the parents of Naftali Fraenkel, Gilad Shaar and...

NORTH KEY LARGO -- President Barack Obama spent his first weekend in Key Largo without ever leaving the secluded Ocean Reef Club. The president traveled from Washington, D.C., to Florida last Friday morning, accompanied by U.S. Congressman Joe Garcia, D-Miami, with whom he discussed the situation in Venezuela, immigration reform, implementation of the Affordable Care Act and skyrocketing flood insurance rates, Garcia's office said. After arriving in Miami, the president, with First Lady Michelle Obama, visited Coral Reef Senior High School, where he spoke to hundreds of teenagers about education and financial aid. From there, the Obamas were taken by...

I haven’t seen the new documentary MITT and I’m not sure I can bring myself to do so. Living in the real-life aftermath of Romney’s failed presidential campaign is depressing enough without sitting through a cinematic autopsy, too. Some say that if this documentary or something like it had been screened before election day, Romney’s chances would’ve improved. Obviously we can’t know that for certain. I feel more confident declaring that had an infamous but little seen Barry Goldwater campaign film called Choice aired in 1964, he still wouldn’t have won. That’s because Goldwater had no chance of winning anyhow....

It was the Year of the Zombies. Not in the sense of most of humanity dying from a horrible plague and then reanimating as mindless flesh-eating ghouls. No, it was much worse than that. Because as bad as a zombie apocalypse would be, at least it wouldn’t involve the resurrection of Anthony Weiner’s most private part. We thought that thing was out of our lives forever, but suddenly there it was again, all over the Internet, as Weiner came back from the political grave like the phoenix, the mythical bird that arose from the ashes to run for mayor of...

President Obama's personal data is "not in particular government data bases" so his identity cannot be verified. And this according to White House sources. Huh? What kind of data? And what kind of president cannot have his identity verified. And this little disclosure comes just as Americans are turning off the news to an extent that makes the classic "Friday afternoon data dump" look like publicity-seeking. **SNIP** Here are some simple questions: Does Obama file his tax returns by way of sending staff to a DC IRS building? If not, why not? Doesn't the integrity of Obama's tax returns relate...

...Following in the footsteps of Ayatollah Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei tries to steal the charisma attached to Shiism’s magical imams and fuse it to the raw, coercive power of a twentieth-century totalitarian dictator. Like his predecessor as supreme leader, Khamenei sees Islam as under siege from the West, and especially the United States. “In the military, political, and economic wars, in every arena where there is a test of strength, you, the believer, must stand firm against the enemy [the United States], your will must overcome the determination of the enemy,” he told his militant audience...

Responding to an angry constituent’s letter about the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama allegedly used a sexually charged derogatory term referring to members of the Tea Party movement. -snip- To his surprise, the 49-year-old teacher got a reply written on official White House stationary in which Mr Obama supposedly stated that while the health care law was 'certainly not the smart "political thing," it will be the right thing for the country. The president also took umbrage with Ritter's claim that his administration has been cracking down on Republicans and conservatives. ‘I... appreciate your concern about the toxic political...

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh on Friday argued that “Americans are losing [health care] coverage by political design” through Obamacare. He said the White House knew millions of Americans would lose their coverage, adding that “Richard Nixon resigned over a lie nowhere near this big.” “And you know the hell of it is that Obama doesn’t think he lied. I don’t think Obama, in his mind, is capable of lying. Whatever is necessary to say or do to advance the agenda is what is morally correct. Doesn’t matter. He doesn’t care. He doesn’t think he lied,” Limbaugh said. He went...

The head of the agency responsible for overseeing the troubled HealthCare.gov repeatedly refused to disclose how many people have enrolled in ObamaCare -- during a hearing where she did not deny that officials have that information. Marilyn Tavenner, head of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, testified Tuesday before the House Ways and Means Committee. At the top of the hearing, she apologized for the failures of the main ObamaCare website and vowed to fix them. But, raising more questions about the administration's transparency on the project, she declined to cite enrollment numbers. She did not claim, as Health...

Obama open to name change for Washington Redskins Associated Press JULIE PACE 5 minutes ago WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says that if he owned the Washington Redskins, he would "think about changing" the team name, wading into the controversy over a football nickname that many people deem offensive to Native Americans. Obama, in an interview with The Associated Press, said team names like the Redskins offend "a sizable group of people." He said that while fans get attached to the nicknames, nostalgia may not be a good enough reason to keep them in place. "I don't know whether...

Marion Barry, the city’s most well-known and polarizing politician, was censured Tuesday by his colleagues on the DC City Council for taking thousands of dollars in cash payments from contractors with business before the city. A divided council stripped Barry of his committee chairmanship, in what some colleagues said was another mark on the city’s dismal ethics record. In the last two years, three council members have pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges. For Barry, the censure inserted another entry in an already checkered political career. As mayor in 1990, Barry was arrested and later convicted for cocaine possession. More...
