    Commuters are saving an average $9,904 annually and $825 per month, based on current gas prices, by riding public transit systems instead of driving their cars, according to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). Gas prices increased 28 cents per gallon in the 10 days leading up to March 4. The current savings by using public transportation are the highest in the past two years, APTA officials said.
