Ron Paul raises millions in today's Boston Tea Party event ($3.2 million @ 3:00 EST)
Boston Globe ^ | 12/16/07 | Michael Levenson

Posted on 12/16/2007 11:57:44 AM PST by traviskicks

On Nov. 5, supporters of Ron Paul raked in more than $4.2 million in donations in 24 hours, mostly of them collected over the Internet.

Today, they're at it again. Hoping to detonate what they call a "money bomb," the supporters started fundraising at midnight Saturday and have already raised $2 million as of about 10:30 a.m. today, more than at this point on Nov. 5, according to figures they posted online. They hope to collect a total of $10 million by midnight Sunday.

Last time, they tied their fundraising to Guy Fawkes Day, which commemorates a British mercenary who tried unsuccesfully to kill King James I on Nov. 5, 1605. This time, they're seizing on the 234th aniversary of the Boston Tea Party and converging on this snowy city to rally.

They plan on gathering on the State House steps at 1 p.m. and parading down to Faneuil Hall, where they will listen to speeches in tune with Paul's libertarian platform. Speakers will include the Republican presidential candidate's son, Dr. Rand Paul, an eye surgeon, and Carla Howell, the libertarian who ran unsuccesfully for governor in 2002.

There are also plans to dump some tea (or at least some boxes labeled tea) into the Harbor, though the details were still sketchy as of this morning.

Bush gal, I read from the tag you support FRed, good for you. We cannot convert everyone. At least you are participating in the process. Good luck to you.

We did pick up another supporter because of his son. Snip from a Ron Paul email.

A few mornings ago on LewRockwell.com, I saw a YouTube of a 14-year-old boy that summed up our whole movement for me. This well-spoken young man, who could have passed in knowledge for a college graduate, told how he heard our ideas being denounced. So he decided to Google. He read some of my speeches, and thought, these make sense. Then he studied US foreign policy of recent years, and came to the conclusion that we are right. So he persuaded his father to drop Rudy Giuliani and join our movement.

All over America, all over the world, we are inspiring real change. With the wars and the spying, the spending and the taxing, the inflation and the credit crisis, our ideas have never been more needed. Please help me spread them https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate in all 50 states. Victory for liberty! That is our goal, and nothing less.

Sincerely,

Ron

I wonder what company Soros is using to sort through all those checks. Must be one hell of a processing fee, you’d think he’d try and save on postage by having us donate 2300 each. But hell, its his money, who am I to argue?

but the man MUST know that a portion of his supporters believe in these crazy conspiracy theories.

He is aware of it. You know what though? His message of freedom and liberty includes EVERYONE. That includes the Truthers, the white supremacists, and the anti-war left. But what they do with their freedom is their business. Dr. Paul doesn't condone it.

You need to understand that Dr. Paul's critics want him to apologize for beliefs he doesn't support. That's the death sentence for Republicans - when PC liberals and "conservatives" want you to apologize profusely.

If Paul would simply state he does not agree that our own government or the president were the ones that concocted 911 I would take another look at the man.

He has denounced the Truthers in an interview with LiveLeak.com over the summer, and just past Friday he denounced the white supremacists on PBS. Seriously, this guilt-by-association crap is getting OLD.

More like I have better things to do than to keep slapping down your ridiculous statements.

I agree, it’s best you don’t argue with the genius behind the genius that is the genius.

The checks are processed through PAYCHEX. Bulk rate on stamps so to minimize the cost. Not that cost matters to a billionaire.

Whatever you donated plus 25% will be added to your check. Easy money.

Well, that would probably cut down on costs, and he is a billionaire after all. I was unaware about the 25% bonus though, I must have missed that part when I got my marching orders from moveon.org

Never went to moveon. My direct orders came from codepink or purple, no wait it was codefuchsia. A hush hush operation. So keep that on the low down and the down low. I would hate for people who do not like RP to find out about this very secretive organization.

Meanwhile the Huckleberry has a fundraiser day set up on Christmas day. Should make for an outstanding day. I would say/write something bad about Huck but Chuck Norris knows bad and may just jump through the computer and kick my azz-pirin.

If there were ever a person to refuse Hillary, it would be Ron Paul. How could Ron Paul, with an absolutely rock solid voting record over 20 years, ever go back on his word to his constituents or supporters? He is an honest man with integrity (as was my father) and he just wouldn’t - it just isn’t in his character.

I hope and pray that you are right.

“Were Paul to win, wouldn’t you expect him to have at least some sort of a mandate?”

He’ll claim to have one, but that’s about it.

“If he won, it would stand to reason that a majority of voters agreed with most of his positions, no?”

No, because people will see him for the danger that he is once he tries to ram through his policy.

“I would imagine most all republicans and a good number of democrats would support his bid to establish border security.”

His efforts to establish border security?

You mean like:

In 1999: Voted against the Traficant Amendment to H.R. 1401 to authorize the use of the military on the border?

In 2000: Voted against the Traficant Amendment to H.R. 4205 to authorize the use of the military in border control efforts?

In 2001: Voted against the Traficant Amendment to H.R. 2586 to authorize the use of troops on the border?

In 2002: Voted against amendment to authorize the use of the military in border control efforts?

In 2003: Voted against the Goode Amendment to H.R. 1588 to authorize the use of the military to assist in border control?

2004: Voted against the Goode Amendment to H.R. 4200 authorize troops on the border

In 2005: Voted against the Duncan Hunter (R-CA) Amendment to H.R. 4437 to increase border controls?

In 2005: Voted against H.R. 418 to increase border controls?

In 2005: Voted against H. Amdt. 206 to H.R. 1815 to authorize troops on the border?

And it wasn’t until recently (within the last year) that he decided that he better start “acting tough” about the border so he can run for Presidnet.

And FYI. The reason why the 1st Cavalry Division was created was to patrol the U.S.-Mexican border.

From the Division’s history page:

“The division’s early history is largely a saga of rough riding, patrolling the Mexican border, and constant training. Operating from horseback, the cavalry was the only force capable of piercing the desert’s harsh terrain and halting the band of smugglers that operated along the desolate Mexican border.”

http://pao.hood.army.mil/1stcavdiv/

Yet Mr. “We must secure the borders” is against doing the very things that he says we should do.

Really, you don’t think that if he were elected, the people that voted for him wouldn’t agree with any of his policies? Great logic there. Wait, what logic?

After perusing several of those bills, I would oppose most of them as well.

Most of these amendments in essence turn soldiers into LEOs, searching trucks at the border and planes at airports. I completely understand why he voted against most of these. The Hunter amendment, I’m not sure why he voted against that, and I may disagree with him over that. However, he has a definite record of voting against bills for small problems contained within them, which is something I don’t have problem with.

“Can he do it with signing statements? That seems to be all the rage in Washington these days.”

No, he can not use anythign that he has already said he was against.

“I am only looking for President to help me protect my God given rights no more, no less.”

Uh huh, and when your heerow retreats from the field of battle, the terrorists will follow us back and start attacking us on our soil again.

Your heerow wants to eliminate the agencies and programs that have stopped further attacks against us on our soil in our streets.

Your heerow thinks that it should only be a law enforcement matter.....Just like how clinton treated it for 8 years and look what happened on 9/11.

Your heerow thinks that if we just dropped everything, turn our backs, walk away and hide within our borders that the terrorists will never attack us again.

The guy is nuttier than a damn Almond Joy candy bar if that’s what he thinks.

But by all means go ahead and be led by the nose to your own demise.

“In other words, you have no facts to present”

Oh and YOU do?

I have yet to see a single paultard present anything remotely factual.

“just emotion and barbra streisand...”

Sounds like the M.O. of the paultards.

“Call me when you have facts, cites, sources and details.”

I have cited facts, given sources and details. The problem is you paultards would rather stick your heads up paul’s fifth point of contact than face FACTS.

“Otherwise, as far as I’m concerned, you’re just another Paul-hating, vitriol-spewing jerk without a clue.”

And as far as I’m concerned, you are a brainwashed idiot without a clue.

“This retired Marine supports Dr. Paul because, IMO, no foreign terrorist gaggle can take away our Constitution and our liberty.”

Uh huh, funny thing is that their biggest goal is to overthrow our government and impose sharia law upon us.

But you have to get your head out of paul’s fifth point of contact to see that.

Until then, his silence on the matter is deafening!”

Same goes for his silence about the support he gets from neo-nazi groups.

His silence about one of his own campaign workers in NJ telling veterans who do not support him that they are traitors and should be “lined up and shot”.

His silence about his supporters using stolen credit card numbers.

Yeah the silence IS deafening.

Sorry to burst your bubble there cupcake, but the ridiculous statements come from the paultard camp.

Speaking of ridiculous statements, you still think that our borders are “international territory”?

“Really, you don’t think that if he were elected, the people that voted for him wouldn’t agree with any of his policies? Great logic there. Wait, what logic?”

Most of the people who would vote for him do not know the truth about him.

Enough logic so as not to be duped by that fool you support.

“Most of these amendments in essence turn soldiers into LEOs, searching trucks at the border and planes at airports. I completely understand why he voted against most of these. You didn’t bother researching your heerow’s views did you?

He clearly stated that he want’s to pull our troops from overseas so they can be used on the border.

Funny how he says one thing, but votes against the very measures he claims to support.

And I also see that you didn’t bother looking at the history page for the First Cavalry Division. One of their missions was to patrol the U.S.-Mexican border.

I could give two s**ts about the 1st cav. So they rode horses along the border before world war one, big deal. The purpose of having a fence or troops on the border is to force people to go through authorized entry points, but
most of these amendments would have made US soldiers subservient to Customs, and that the soldiers couldn’t really DO anything without a Border Patrol guy bossing them around. We shouldn’t have soldiers playing Customs officials, searching trucks and airplanes.

A few minutes ago on Neil Cavuto,,,,,,,,,Neil asked Ron Paul, a white supremacist just gave your campaign a donation. Will you give the money back?,,,,,,To which, Ron Paul just shrugged his shoulders and said why should I? We can’t check out everyone that donates money to us. Neil then said ,sure but now that you know wouldn't’t the right thing to do would be to return his money. That would show you don’t agree with his views! Again Paul just shrugged and said no, and besides the money is probably already been spent!............

Perhaps some ‘good ol boy’ klansmen have donated to the Thompson campaign...who cares? If we start holding candidates accountable for those donating to their campaigns; the in-fighting and bickering would spiral out of control...’cross-dressers for Rudy’...egads.
