Where Have All the FR Protestants Gone? [A Month Later]

Thread from last month...

Where Have All the FR Protestants Gone?
drstevej

Posted on 04/08/2003 12:29 PM CDT by drstevej

OBSERVATIONS:

[1] There seems to be a significantly reduced number of Protestant Threads (KJV Only being the exception for sure) in the FR Religion Forum.

[2] There seems to be a reduced number of FR Protestant posts in the Religion Forum.

This thread is a place to discuss these observations.

------------

Now the transformation to a Catholic Religion Forum is almost complete. Must be a Marian miracle or an answer to Jim Robinson's prayer, "Can't we all just get along?" Now all the dissent is within the RC fold ... NO Mass vs. Tridentine Mass. Boredom has descended, the moderators are free to nap without fear of an **** awakening them.

Could someone arrange for a funeral mass? (a clown mass in this case might be in order).

My apologies, too, Becky. What you said was totally upright. God bless.

Dear drstevej,

"-- See # 198"

That's too bad. If you aspire to popehood, you'll need a good dose of it.

;-)

PS: I'd make an excellent choice as the cardinal in charge of the newly-reconstituted Holy Office of the Inquisition.

We've lost the yeast, or the salt, or something.

That's a matter of opinion.

When I first joined FR, I hardly ever bothered with the Religion Forum Catholic threads. They were usually derived from the same flavourless and uninspiring mush I had sickened of in the mainstream Catholic Church.

Ultima Ratio's tireless posting of well-written and learned arguments made me stick around. He has articulated what a good number of voiceless Catholics have been unable to in their own parishes.

The Catholic Caucus would not be what it is today without him. You can consider that a commendation or a condemnation, but his influence here is undeniable.

I have received quite a few resumes for that position. Do you have any experience with thumb screws?

Perhaps the feminists aren't smart enough to understand the universal meaning of the word man.

Dear drstevej,

Frankly, my methods are far more modern than that. And innovative, as well. First, physical methods are preferred that leave no unsightly scars or mutilations, or at least leave them in places not generally seen.

Second, methods of psychological coercion are far preferable to any methods of physical torture.

The ideal goal of a persuasion session is not primarily the infliction of pain, but the manipulation of the psyche of the subject to the point where he freely confesses his sin, and readily accepts instruction and correction.

It is far more satisfying to see a subject changed so that he will believe whatever he is told, without hesitation, without question, blindly and obediently, humbly, self-effacingly, even grovelingly, than to see a subject suffer from psychological or physical torture. We are far more modern than the Inquisitors of old. Our methods are more subtle, more suave, more sophisticated, and far more certain of effect.

Of course, when necessary, we can always fall back on the tried-and-true ways. And even in these things, we have many centuries of additional experience, especially all the knowledge given to us from the opening of the Soviet and East German secret police archives.

Gotcha, we put them into the RCC matrix. If they exhibit any anomalies we send Saint (agent) Smith to rectify the situation.

Thanks to both of you for stating some things about being "Catholic" that I was beginning to think I alone believed. After being on these threads for a couple of years now I think the "right",who stand outside and accuse, are at least speaking "truth",albeit from their perspective. In my mind they miss a bit,but they admit to their position vis-a-vis the Catholic Church.

I find those who insinuate themselves onto these threads, identifying themselves as catholic but never coming out with any statements or opinions that show support for anything except those things that endorse or promote "change", are far more dangerous to the Church and the world. I don't want to offend anyoone, but my grandma always said "better the devil you know than the devil you don't know". I appreciate the candor of most of the "traditional preference" folks, but I wish they would give the rest of us the benefit of acknowledging that we do know what they are saying but we think the fight is within the boundaries of those "professing" to be in union with the Pope within the Catholic Church. As the Pope has said "we must smother error with truth".

Can we take a sbbatical from the use of the word "rectify" on RCC threads?

Just a suggestion.

Can you tell the difference between the legitimate option of doing the Confeitor or doing the Kyrie and the practice of the preist leaving words out of the Creed that he doesn't agree with?

Yes. And I guess I'm sheltered, but, even in the wild days of the 70s and 80s, I never ran across a priest who just made stuff up (like Eucharistic Prayers) or who left things out or switched things around.

Maybe the Fort Worth diocese is just a staid place. I know of no threats by our bishops against liturgical innovators; I just don't know of any.

The only liturgical dance I ever saw was two years ago at a Martin Luther King Mass, which I just happened to stumble into. The bishop presided, and some acculturated women did some weaving and dipping bringing up the gifts.

Thanks, NYer for the info. I will get busy reading it. By the way, the deconstructionists I studied in grad school and the Amchurch would get along as snug as bugs in a rug.

There you go lying again.

I, too, have never said the Novus Ordo Mass is invalid. I have said I avoid it at all costs because of its Protestant nature. However, I will suffer the Novus when I don't have a Tridentine Mass available.

You express my thoughts exactly. I have learned a great deal from UR's posts. His rational and knowledgeable arguments are hard to refute and he definitely keeps the conversation interesting as well as controversial. He definitely lives up to his user name.

Oh, oh, oh!!!< /hand waving vigourously> Pick me, pick me.

You'd be suprised what sort of confessions you can extract with a Black and Decker Firestorm drill and a reduced shank 3/4" bit on low speed!
