While it's too early to know precise details, the reordering of resources ordered by Bishop Matthew Clark likely will lead to hard decisions on a wider scale than Catholics have known. The planning comes as the diocese struggles to deal with shifting demographics and a steadily falling number of priests.

My Bishop Robert Lynch (St. Petersburg Diocese) has publicly stated that after JP II is gone, celibacy will end and women will be ordained to the priesthood. That should solve the priest shortage.

Exactly what "Father" Richard McBrien said the other night on 60 Minutes.

John Paul II might have appointed a fair number of relatively good Cardinals in his time, but he's also appointed some fairly liberal ones too.

the 3 female pastoral associates I have met have given me the creeps. varying amounts of paganism, egocentricity, contempt for tradition, earnest professionalism but no dedicated life...could we at least have deacons responsible for the parish, and not these termite women?

Tell your Dad -- we already have a schismatic Church in Rochester who was allowed to have a female concelebrate Mass and "hear" confessions -- The pastor gave Communion to anyone whether of our Faith or not -- And blessed gay unions--- until our Bishop must have been told by Rome; to stop it.

I guess here in the Rochester diocesan offices, they are thinking there are more than two ways to skin a cat.

In fact, that was the thesis of Michael Rose's book, "Goodbye Good Men." He documented in great detail that the vocation shortage was DELIBERATELY created because it served the agenda of the people you mention. Once the vocation crisis has eliminated the supply of priests, then you can claim a "necessity" for married priests, women priests, non-priest offering the "service," etc.

Ditto: Please let's not blame the Holy Spirit for what's going on. God's permissive will allows evil to occur, but He never intends for these scandals to take place. As Jesus said, "Scandal will inevitably occur, but woe to that man by whom by they happen."

And when you think about it, there are only a few hundred bishops but millions of lay catholics who should know better and insist that they will not be instrumental in destroying 2000 years of tradition and Magisterial teaching.

The sin of despair is the opposite of the virtue of hope. In its theological sense, "hope" means our assurance of final salvation. It means that we believe we shall ultimately be with Jesus in heaven, if we persevere in our Christian faith and practice. Hope is a supernatural virtue referring to our supernatural destiny for all eternity.

We can say that we "despair of seeing improvement in the American church" without committing any sin at all. Christians are not required to be Pollyannas. (Not that I'm saying that; I guess I'm still a Pollyanna at heart.)

From what I remember, the "schismatic Church" members were excommunicated long before the Church began operating.

Clark never sanctioned female priests in a Catholic Church.

I would wager that celibacy would be made optional long before the Western church is allowed to lapse into a missionary status.

American Catholics aren't going to long tolerate suburban parishes visited by a priest once a month.

This year the FSSP seminary in Nebraska had 80 applicants and could only accept 18 of them! They need to expand the seminary so they can teach and form all of the good men who want to attend their seminary. Orthodoxy begets vocations.

I am saying that these activities occurred for years in a Rochester Diocesan Church with no rebuke from the local Bishop.

The associate pastor/priest of the schismatic church has since been expelled from his newly formed church for dating a parishioner who he now intends to marry.

The female concelebrant has since been "ordained a priest" by another schismatic sect.

As for the article...well, so far I haven't seen any evidence of this happening in my own area (thank heavens), though there are TONS of women on the altar during Mass, and a whole lotta hip gyrating going on during the "hymns." Every time I attend Mass, I find myself saying, "Elvis! Please...leave the building already!"
