Once again, ... the foundation (that of JESUS and the Apostles) has been laid ... it exists ... and it is not going anywhere.

Why is the presumption made that Jesus needed Apostles to help Him found His Church, but He does not need them anymore?

If they were necessary to run the Church well at the beginning, why are they not now?

They left their testimony.
John 21:24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

I don't know that the Apostles so much ran the Church.

Rather, I would say that they established it in the world.
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Luke 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

24:48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

They are neccessary now - it's just that nobody including yourself has much respect for anything they say. You and yours have supplanted what the apostles said as it has pleased you to do so. Many of the Protestants have done the same. What difference then does it make if they were here or not. It's just as easy to run them through today as it was back then when the witness from their mouths convicted people of the wrong they did and angered them to wrath. If they survived the Catholics it they likely wouldn't survive the mormons or the Jehovah's witnesses. somebody would have their heads. They'd be laughed out of churches, spat upon, and otherwise dispised. Too bad really. People are just too dumb sometimes to know who they are dealing with. And philosophy trumps truth in their books - just like it did in Christ's time. Imagine that...
