Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
It appears to me that you're misusing scripture and, like the RC's, are making up stuff that isn't there.
Lol, I pity the poor sap who's been preparing his post for the last two weeks, and finally finishes all 4 pages, and then it gets posted in the midst of the 50 spam post holocaust that says, "I got number 50,000" Wooieeee.
No one will even know there was a real post somewhere in the mix. Lol
Not to mention one of the main tasks of the disciples:
Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
The word translated "preached" as these meanings:
1) to be a herald, to officiate as a herald
1a) to proclaim after the manner of a herald
1b) always with the suggestion of formality, gravity and an authority which must be listened to and obeyed
2) to publish, proclaim openly: something which has been done
3) used of the public proclamation of the gospel and matters pertaining to it, made by John the Baptist, by Jesus, by the apostles and other Christian teachers
What better way to proclaim and publish the truth then to set it down in writing? Oral tradition wouldn't effectively do the job Christ commanded we do.

"You are not a Christian"
I found one. Coincidentally from a Calvinist who has been banned from this thread, to an NC,
"You are not a Christian Doug...You belong to a cult..Your doctrine is a heresy."

"You are a Pagan"
I found none. None!

"You are not Saved"
I did find a few.
"Baptism .. now saves us" means that without baptism you are not saved. So Baptism removes Original Sin. Those who die in sin go to hell."
Not nasty, and posted by that wild NC, SoothingDave.

I can't guarantee that I have found all instances but I am relatively certain I have done so.
Pretty nasty stuff isn't it?
Unless you can show otherwise I think you owe all NC's, who you have falsely accused, an apology.
Are you really saying that "the Word" as used in John means both Jesus and the Bible and that you believe Jesus IS the Bible?
Uh, before you go on a rant against me, perhaps you'd be so kind as to actually check out the post to which I was responding. To wit:
"Could that explain why there doesn't seem to be even one affectionate sounding communique between Jesus and his mother?"(emphasis mine)
In other words, geezer, is was one of 'you guys' who went the all or nothing route, not me. Care to launch a rant against him?
You know, at one time, I was a regular participant on these threads. I left because, frankly, I found the hatred, animosity, and ill-will eminating from the other side to be literally spiritually harmful. I started to view all Protestants through the prism of my experience here on FR.
Since then, I've found it best to visit only occasionally and to keep my visits to around two to three weeks. Posts such as yours confirm the wisdom of this practice.
Sorry. I didn't call you stupid. I called your interpretation stupid. I've heard it before and it holds no water. In fact, It borders on being disengenuous. I'm running out of patience with this kind of crap.
Indeed, were you correct that Jesus showed not even one communique of affection for His mother, than you would have to argue Jesus was acting opposite the Holy Spirit, for the Holy Spirit certainly shows affection for Mary by inspiring Luke to include Chapters 1 and 2. Finally, if you are right that Jesus saw the future -and I would argue you are- then so, too, did the Holy Spirit. And if God truly WERE concerned about Catholic devotion to Mary, then most certainly he would have had Luke edit out his first two chapters. After all, its not in the other three gospels. Thus, the scriptural evidence shows God obviously ISN'T concerned about our practice else those verses wouldn't be there.
But even this isn't the most interesting thing to come from this little exercise. What's really interesting is that as I write this, no Protestant has denied they worship the Bible.
Wasn't as far as I originally thought it would be. :-)
Sorry. First of all, I made the mistake of lumping y'all together with your digital cohort, SoothingDave (as he so often does with certain of us). Then, to make matters worse, I made the mistake of expecting you would have quoted any significant parts of the post to which you were replying. I should have instead read the post myself. In fact, I'd intended to do so prior to posting my reply, but got sidetracked by something else, never to return. Mea culpa.
hatred, animosity, and ill-will
Whoa. Such thin skin.
See ya.
Do you have any scripture for this? Althought I didn't call you a name last I read was Jesus calling Pharisees "whitewashed walls". I'd rather be called stupid.
Pretty much what you say, here. But it doesn't mean the Bible is Jesus or that Jesus is the Bible.
