Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams |
I wouldn't know. But is it your contention ownership of a Bible is a prerequisite for either salvation or a relationship with Our Lord?
Of course not. Renting is acceptable.
I know you were joking. And, frankly, in general I would agree. But just out of curiosity, consider these questions. First, in which nation -the United States or Mexico- is the per capita rate of Bible-ownership higher? Now, in which nation is the abortion rate higher? (Hint: Abortion is illegal in Mexico.)
Just something interesting to consider.
Canonized saints are a made up thing by the catholic church, just as praying to them is.
WHEN PEOPLE IN THE OT died they went to one of two places hell (hades) or paradise (Abraham Bosom). which were located in the same place but sepeated by a wide gulf that could not be crossed. These places are not the same places that people will spend eternity in after the 1000 yr. reign. Heaven, or the Lake of Fire. After Jesus died on the cross, he went and took the people in paradise to heaven.
You really should read your bible more.

Two interesting questions. Let's examine them. First, how many cross here to get one? I'm sure I couldn't say. But if this is truly a problem. Then let's switch the country to Guatemala. Certainly, there aren't too many people with enough money to hop a plane up to L.A. to get an abortion there.
But your second question is really depressing isn't it? I seems you are saying its possible there really isn't that big of a difference between abortion rates in the U.S. and Mexico, its just that since its illegal in Mexico they aren't reported.
This, of course, is precisely Planned Parenthood's line. They argue legalization of abortion simply provides 'safe' abortions for those who would get abortions anyway. Now, I have read articles which, to my mind, prove this is false and that, in fact, legalization of abortion causes a huge upswing in abortion. Indeed, some scientists speculate the epedimic of breast cancer in this country is due precisely to the increase in abortion after abortion's legalization. Thus, while I can't answer your question with any degree of precision, I would say that -unless one wants to accept Planned Parenthood's and the abortion industry's argument- the abortion rate is lower in those nations in which its illegal.
Of course, viewed on another level. Both questions are really irrelevant, aren't they? The laws passed by a society are an expression of that society's views on important issues. Thus, even if the rates were exactly the same, it would still seem to me to be an interesting question as to why the society in which Bibles are plentiful sees abortion as a constitutional right while the society in which Bibles are less plentiful at least sees it SHOULD recieve some form of condemnation?

Thanks. If you remember, give me a ping. I've been a bit busy lately. I've lurked alot but posting always seems to take so much time. Hope you had a nice Easter, Feast of the Ressurection, Feast of the Unleaven Bread, Passover, or just plain first day of the week. -)
(I've been following these discussions of the Sabbath somewhat closely.)
I understand that.
How do you feel about my #47,444? Why do you believe your Church has never admitted its wrong teachings, that Friday is the crucifixion day of our Lord, and its impossible to find three days and three nights from Friday evening to Sunday morning?
My church stopped keeping Good Friday years ago, and no longer uses the word "Easter, and now I see others are finally admitting the fallacy, and are beginning to be honest about it.

Wouldn't deep frying an old shoe be more tender?
I'm sorry. Really. I didn't mean to imply you were pro-abortion. Indeed, I've read enough of your posts to suspect you are a good, Bible-believing, God-fearing Christian and, thus, must assuredly pro-life. Frankly, that's why I answered your question the way I did. You see, there are, roughly, two possible answers to your question about whether or not abortions are as prevelant in Mexico as they are in the U.S. The first is that they are, even though its illegal. This is PP's line and I knew deep down you wouldn't buy it. The second is that they aren't. Which brings us back to my original question about Bible-ownership and abortion rates.
Frankly, what I was trying to get at was the point that owning a Bible wasn't enough to insure one's relationship with the Lord. Indeed, I would argue its not even necessary. But I would say it is a very good idea.
What is necessary, I believe, is that one have the desire to know Jesus. Without that, all the Bibles in the world won't do you any good.
Exactly where does that desire come from? I don't know. Certainly, since all good things come from God, in the first instance, then, this desire must come from God. But after that, I don't know. Indeed, to pose the question invites one of those Calvinist-Arminian debates in which I always find myself agreeing with both sides. -)
One thing we can agree on, though, is that that desire is a beautiful gift. -)
Please explain the origin of your absurd claim !
All those who research scriptures agree that the original scriptures were written in Koine Greek.
There are many who believe that Matthew, was originally written in Hebrew then copied into Koine Greek.
This is based on the structure of the language, which is more like the structure of Hebrew than Greek.
The language of Y'shua was Hebrew. It is the language of G-d.
Matthew 23:39 For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say,
`Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'" [Psalm 118:26]
